  • UPDATE ** I now have plans with measurements on my blog at www.eternalharvestdecor.com
    BARN DOORS ARE HUGE right now! I have made a few different designs and I have my favorites for sure, but I have never built this design before and I love new projects! GUYS this one is so easy and it is a great first time door if your new to them. You will need to use a miter saw and possible a finish nailer if you have one.
    So, I got a request to build a 3 panel barn door and I thought this would be a great tutorial! Its pretty simple and requires minimal tools.
    To start, here's what you will need:
    Miter saw or circular saw: dlnkr.com/r?r=...
    4 - 1x4x8 pieces of poplar from Lowes or HD
    3 - 1x2x8 pieces of poplar
    3/4 birch plywood or another hardwood ply like maple or oak.
    1- 1x6x8 primed pine board for header piecs
    titebond glue - dlnkr.com/r?r=...
    clamps - I use Pony Jorgensen clamps like this dlnkr.com/r?r=...
    white primer - dlnkr.com/r?r=...
    white paint - dlnkr.com/r?r=...
    caulk - dlnkr.com/r?r=...
    spackle - dlnkr.com/r?r=...
    optional - finish nailer with 3/4 inch nails
    I usually suggest this hardware for hanging.
    dlnkr.com/r?r=...
    SAFTEY GEAR I LOVE:
    Carolina work boots - dlnkr.com/r?r=....
    Madgid glasses - dlnkr.com/r?r=....
    RZ mask - dlnkr.com/r?r=....
    ISOtunes ear protection - dlnkr.com/r?r=....

    Most of these door builds are done by men and they are not very detailed. Thank you for taking the time to talk about each process, I really appreciate it.

      My girl told me how to make it and I was like doesn’t sound right send me video. Yeah my girl left out the nail gun and a few boards lmao.
      God bless her.

    Out of all the barn door diy, yours is one of the best because it looks really really good with minimal tools. I've seen some look nice but they use like 8 or 9 different tools the average person didn't have. Great great job!

    Thank you for this video. We were going to buy a premade one for $460 and we ended up making this same door for about $180 (plus the finishing gun, and extra clamps that I can use again later). I didn't do the middle ones as I find the surrounds look a little more modern and simple. Only thing different were the sizes of wood in Australia. 19mm Ply + (3) 86x19x2400 pine, (3) 42x19x2400 (reduced from 42mm to 38mm so it was flush)

    She’s so adorable and saved me so much money!!! Just picked up 3/8” thick 8ft. X 4ft. and will frame it with 2”x1” so I can use the door hinges from Home Depot ($3ish for a pair). With number being so expensive this route is cheap! Oh yeah, and Home Depot gave me a discount for having damaged plywood. Love you Home Depot!! And lastly, love this lady, too adorable can be my sister ☺️

      I do too, Brandi. Not everything needs to be unnecessarly complicated or overbuild. Of course it all depends from the surrounding style, but there can be Beauty in very simple geometries and lines that complement another piece instead. And that doesn't make them any less outstanding than the other. And that door, will stand out whatever it's surrounded by.

    I can’t tell you how many times I’ve watched and shared this video. I have a window 40 inches wide and 65 inches tall. I want to do 2 doors for it. Can I still use the wood you suggested or do I have to go to 1/2 inch plywood. Will it be too heavy for a window that doesn’t go to the floor. Thank you so much for this. Crossing fingers you answer this before I go to hardware store tomorrow.

    • @EternalHarvestDecor
      @EternalHarvestDecor  2 роки тому +1

      Oh this is a tricky question, will you hang it the same way? If so, you could do either thickness. I did 3/4” because most doors are that thick and the hardware works for that thickness. So just check your hanging hardware and make sure it works

    • @EternalHarvestDecor
      @EternalHarvestDecor  2 роки тому +1

      I just saved the whole process in my Instagram highlight reels. I just hung one in my daughters room. I don’t have a UA-cam video on this process yet. Each track is a little bit different, usually the check comes with the measurements that you will need to figure out where the rail should be installed. You will need to install a header board above the track which is just a one by six pine screwed into studs, this helps with the weight of the door.

    I saw the question about what you did with the back side of the door but I was wondering how you open the door from the back side if it is just flat? Could you also trim out the backside the same as the front side or will the door be too thick? Is there a handle you can add to the back?

    • @EternalHarvestDecor
      @EternalHarvestDecor  4 роки тому +1

      You can totally put a handle on the back side as well. You could trim it out but if you do that I suggest using a thinner center piece of plywood, like .25-.50” thick or using thinner trim. Ideally the door should be 1.25-1.75” total in thickness. I have just used a router to create an inset handle on the backside before too. Just some ideas!

      @EternalHarvestDecor  2 роки тому +1

      Not in this case and not always no. This was going on a bathroom door so my customer wanted a solid back. I also don’t do the backs of closet or pantry barn doors.
      But if you wanted a design you could route one out or add 1/8” pieces to the back

    Any suggestions for adding a few inches in width and height for a sliding door in this style? 4'X8' plywood doesn't allow for my overlap.

    • @EternalHarvestDecor
      @EternalHarvestDecor  3 роки тому +1

      Well you can over hang the molding on the bottom but that would be seen from both sides. you may have to build it with two sheets of plywood cut horizontally and the seam covered by the trim. But it would be visible from the back side. you could also use 1x material and do a slatted look and get the length you want. I have a few other barn door options you might want to check out. Thanks for watching

    I recommend to everyone that once you add the track it adds at-least two inches taller to your door and her trim adds 1 and a half to the plywood….sitting here with a finished door that is to tall…

    • @EternalHarvestDecor
      @EternalHarvestDecor  Рік тому

      This is true, all tack rollers add different heights and its important to take the size of the completed door and hardware into account before building. If your door is too tall, you can cut off the bottom and reattach the trim.

    is the trim necessary? I'm going with the birch and the poplar for the border, but do i really need the trim too? What are your thoughts?

    • @EternalHarvestDecor
      @EternalHarvestDecor  3 роки тому

      I felt like it made the edges look more clean and hold the door straight but not sure its absolutely necessary

    Would this need to be changed at all to make it for a pocket door?

    • @EternalHarvestDecor
      @EternalHarvestDecor  3 роки тому

      Just measurements. I’ve never done a pocket door before so not sure I’d just make sure the measurements work

    What about the back, the door isn't consistent on the other side

    • @EternalHarvestDecor
      @EternalHarvestDecor  3 роки тому

      Nope it’s just solid white on the back, my customer was OK with this since the back is in the master bathroom, she wanted just a solid white

    How do you cut in the borrow slit for the floor guide or is the guide not necessary?

      I actually use these floor guides instead. I like them better amzn.to/3TRwuwY

    Do you have a locking mechanism since this is a bathroom door?

    • @EternalHarvestDecor
      @EternalHarvestDecor  4 роки тому +1

      No this was for a customer between her master bath and master bd not the toilet room. No need for locking in this instance but I can see needing one in other situations and they do have hardware you can add.
