Thank you for doing these. I've been trying to eat this way for about a month but I do find I have a lot of questions pop up. Seeing literally what the meals could look like is very helpful.
Especially separating out the egg and veges, that was so helpful! My brain was able to synthesise this info lol.

Very easy to understand and helpful for those starting out! My dad battled very high cholesterol for 40+ years. At age 84, my mom passed away and he decided he was sick of being on statins and was for the first time, doing all his own cooking. To his doctor's credit, he suggested Mediterranean diet to him, even gave him a book about it. Six months later, he could come off of statins and stayed off of them until he passed at 93.

@@sarahrichardson7866 Me too! I was doing Keto and had lost 24 lbs., but my last physical I was at the low end of high cholesterol for the first time in my life. Last August, I also had my first kidney stone. The only thing I had done differently was following Keto. My doctor advised me to stop doing Keto because it’s not heart or kidney friendly. She suggested following more Mediterranean style of eating and use portion control. So, I’m going to give it a go. I’m 51 and I have a long family history of cancers and heart issues. I’ve got 7 to 8 more years until I retire and I don’t want to go into my retirement years being unhealthy.

@@MegUSN52 Hi Meg A. The Mediterranean Diet and The Dash Diet are VERY healthy. They are not a "diet", but a way of life. I lost approximately 75 pounds, my cholesterol, blood pressure, and sugar are all in the normal range and I no longer have to take any medication. I also was doing KETO at one time and my Doctor advised me not to do KETO. I am very 😊😊 happy you are no longer doing KETO. In my own opinion, I think KETO is VERY dangerous. Good luck and take good care of yourself (Sandy).

Before I was eating a pure "American" diet with a lot of beef/pork, processed foods and fats. Now I've incorporated a lot more fresh vegetables/salads, whole grains, less meat (using lentils, beans and chickpeas for protein instead) and olive oil - I love the garlic infused! In a few weeks I noticed that my joint pain was less, my heart palpitations stopped and I started losing inches off my waist. Even my mood and attitude began to be much better. I truly believe that all the processed foods that we eat are like poison. But it's so difficult to get away from it because they are the quickest and most convenient.
My biggest problems maintaining the diet are that it requires a LOT of prep/planning time and that it focuses on things that I don't like (fish/seafood, olives, cucumber, hummus) so I have to find ways to edit a lot of the recipes and substitute things that I will actually eat. But in the end, I believe it's worth it. I hope to get more ideas from this channel!

Hello Bill from our farm in New Hampshire. My doctor is encouraging me to stick primarily with The Mediterranean Diet. I am good with that as I love this lifestyle! I just bought the American Test Kitchen's Mediterranean Cookbook, plus I have a nice Greek cookbook and Italian. French cooking is also a favorite. For me, its all about the garlic, olive oil, tomatoes, black olives, eggplant, seafood, Rosemary, wines. Just amazing rustic foods with herbs & spices. I look forward to following your channel ~ Diane

I usually do the plate guide--but don't always cook mediterranean influenced meals. I still eat the chile, tacos, some American dishes, etc. But use the plate guide and much more veggies and have cut meat portions down (red meat a couple times a month, etc.). It's a great way to eat and have been doing this going on 3 years. Also there are lots of recipes online. Once you know the pyramid (see Oldways for that), you can follow with the emphasis on whole grains and veggies. This is a fun intro to the Mediterranean way of eating.

I think the idea is that you eat more fish than red meat, and still in limited quantities. I don’t think it’s really about eating 100% Mediterranean because not everyone in the U.S. is going to have Mediterranean foods available. So if you live somewhere where Salmon is the most readily available fish or a fish that you enjoy then you should eat it in place of red meat. And, salmon is very good for you even if it’s not 100% Mediterranean. Also, the Mediterranean foods eaten are going to vary depending where in the Mediterranean you live and from family to family.

    • @selenyalcin3667
      @selenyalcin3667 2 роки тому +1

@@MegUSN52 Of course, I understand the main idea here is encouraging people to eat more fish which is great. Because it’s the main reason for the Mediterranean diet being so healthy and became popular worldwide. However, the video’s name is “the Mediterranean Diet for beginners”, not Healthy Diet for beginners. So, technically it should be about the Mediterranean diet. Of course, salmon is a very healthy fish, but it’s not eaten in the traditional Mediterranean diet; not anywhere in that region by any family. If they’re giving specific examples in the video instead of saying fish in general, I just wanted to correct this misinformation.

The world of "how to eat to be healthy" is so confusing. I'm intrigued by the mediterranean diet because of the claims of long life and good health. However as a type 2 diabetic many of the things you suggest will skyrocket my blood sugar including potatoes and bread. Even whole grain sourdough bread skyrockets my blood sugar as well as pasta and rice and all grains.
I've been told that if you eat low carb you can eat high fat and your blood will not become sticky. I've also been told that if you eat high carb you have to eat low protein to avoid stickingness of the blood. But like most of the people here watching your videos I have no way of knowing what is right! I'd love to hear your thoughts. p.s. your daughter is precious

Great video. My personal opinion and a rule of thumb for me is always Wild caught Salmon. Never ever Farm raised garbage as they are in filthy water and eat their own poop! Even if the label says "Resonsibly Farm raised. Yea, right, anything can be said when something if for sale. Truth is, they eat their poop regardless!

I've looked for Mediterranean cookbooks at thrift stores and general ones are fairly common, but they seem to be more focused on Italian food or that is how they have them grouped on the shelves anyway. But I am looking specifically for Catalan, but I can not find them in any store and I am not one for buying online. How common are they?

It's so difficult sometimes though. Lots of mediterranean cookbooks I've gotten were too obsessed with meat and used heavy cream and non whole grains. Its hard to filter thru the fake from the good.

True Mediterranean would never get olives in a glass jar from a supermarket, they would get the fresh ones in a massive containers lol. I recommend proper Mediterranean markets, Turkish markets etc. where you would get the best stuff

Where can I buy sourdough bread? I looked in the grocery store in the bakery section where they have artisan breads and when I found a cracked sourdough bread, on the back the ingredients say contains: wheat, soy. Soy?!!! That’s can’t be right? Can anyone recommend a good sourdough bread that will have the nutrition that will fuel my body?

I think one thing to try is to roast them. Around 400 degree oven, a little olive oil over the top, and season. Different for different veggies. I think veggies are all sweeter that way. Another is to use vinaigrette (simple vinaigrette--shaker bottle, extra virgin olive oil, mustard, vinegar or lemon juice. Shake well.

11/23/2024: MOST PEOPLE do NOT just sit around eating loads of “junk food” like that EXAMPLE in the beginning of this video. I will be starting the Mediterranean Diet but I will be “tweaking it”. I like yogurt, cottage cheese, veggies and fresh fruit. So I will be tweaking my diet to eat mostly of those things. On the weekends I will incorporate pasta and maybe SOME potatoes. Junk food will be ALLOWED on SPECIAL OCCASIONS
