Hey everyone, thanks for all the feedback and comments. I had a lot of fun with this ration and hopefully many of you did as well. Please leave a thumbs up if you at least got a chuckle out of it! Thanks! 😁
stickyfingaz745 looks fake to me pal nice try though lol
Kim Jong Un approves. lol
stickyfingaz745 yeah pretty sure if this is real that’s not something spilled in the ration buddy
what exactly is the bread thing, also where did you get those vac sealed bags
That is the fakest MRE ever. You lying sack of shit, thumbs down for lying.
"OK guys, today we are looking at a North Korean ration!" *Opens the box and finds nothing in it*
Was honestly expecting that
Lol
And it was posted on April first...
You forgot the 27" intestinal worm..
Thats the Nigeria ration
The rice might very well serve as a moisture deterrent. It's also done to salt shakers sometimes, the dried rice will absorb ambient moisture before the packaging can.
I don't think so. Since all the items inside were hermetically sealed in plastic and therefore protected against moisture there would be no need to have loose rice inside as a dessicant. Also, since the one package contained furikake (seasoning with seaweed) which is normally sprinkled on cooked rice before eating, the rice was meant to be eaten with the furikake. I just don't know why the rice was loose but since the box was only tied shut it might have been tampered with.
@@rak8095 Or the rice package ruptured and fell through the damaged bottom flap.
The one thing that mystified him is mountain tea. He seems to not have bothered trying that.
Everything else is in sealed packaging, the rice is there to be eaten.
Perhaps it was this way 4 both purposes: as a food AND moisture deterrent!
@@jimanast3593 no, just invented.

Crazy....I bought a DPRK ration kit when I was in South Korea at a flea market. I opened it and it had 3 pumpkin seeds, a very small watering can and dirt in it.

like how ancient the box looks, and how clean and modern the contents look. nice april 1 video ;)
I've saw boxes that looked that bad and worse that were only a month old. Just need to get a pallet get rained on, the boxes will look nearly as old as me.

That mountain tea looks like it was made out of actual mountain.
Dude, that "Mountain Tea" looks like straight dirt
From the mountain
I would guess it is fake, since the quality of the plastic bag is too good which beyond NK’s industrial capability

Same thing with the word, “Mountain” cha (tea).
Ok makes sense. I was fooled until reading comments lol
Maybe that's why the title says (April fools) 😁

It was obviously a fake when he opened the package with dirt in it.
A real North Korean ration is just the box.
that's african ration north korean ration is the uncooked rice in the box
No it’s just a crumpled up paper bag
Dual purpose rice. keeps the ration dry, then for eating... Genius.

None of the stuff would be described as "instant," so I'm guessing that the "mountain tea" was meant to be steeped, if not boiled.
Joke. It's a joke. An April Fool's Day JOKE.
The Dear Leader approves of this review and encourages all viewers to enlist in the N.K. Army.
One of friends did a tour with the US Army back in the 1970's (long before the current regime running North Korea). So one day they were doing patrols south of the DMZ looking for infiltrators from North Korea. They came upon a badly hidden cache. They called in assistance and a South Korean Patrol group showed up. After verifying each others identities (North Koreans had been using South Korean Military ID's and uniforms.) they checked out the area. They didn't find anybody. By that time EOD had located the cache they'd found and they verified it wasn't booby trapped. The North Koreans are usually never that careless. It was several cases of rations, ammo, and some other stuff (he wouldn't say what the other stuff was.). The South Koreans were curious about the Rations and after the stuff was x-rayed and tested they checked it out. They weren't impressed. The South Korean Officer called it low quality food that he wouldn't feed to a dog. That's a bad insult in Korea. I guess they don't believe in giving their troops decent food, just edible enough to survive on. This was before the big droughts and exhausted farms that currently prevail in North Korea. Even when they had plenty of food they didn't seem to put a lot of effort into troop rations.
the mountain pack was literally excavation dirt from a North Korean nuclear missile being built it's a simple way. to dispose of the excess I wouldn't put it past them...
I'm quite impressed how you assembled all the parts. The mystery packet is called "furikake". It's a rice topping which is better when just topped on cooked rice, as opposed to using it while cooking the rice. Good video. Funny.
The one that looks like dirt and straw is mountain tea, which isn't too bad either.
Dunno about adding sugar to green tea, but then I prefer my tea the way God intended - plain.
The French used to have wine in their MRE's, I wonder if they still do?
That cookie label was especially ominous "created by our leader"
I kept wondering how NK were able to manufacture the plastic/mylar packaging and what preservatives would they have used to keep the chicken from becoming a piece of poisonous cardboard. Then I realized it was an April Fools! Nice work.
The perfectly fresh shrimp didn't tip you off first?
the loose rise is for keeping the air in the package dry, i don't think it is meant for eating
I love how you made the packaging look old as hell and completely wore out but everything inside is well packaged and in mint condition. 😂
Yes, what a fuckin liar.
Why do you think he made the paper box look old, because the plastic looks clean? The box looks old because it's paper and on the outside! Don't try so hard to be stupid. Leave that to the Democrats.
@@markblix6880 Ahole, just had to get political, fu
Nooooo, it came like that.
@@markblix6880 It's obviously fake. The box is dirty as heck, but the rope is brand new and clean😏
Also all the packaging inside is super clean.
Holy shit man, I was NOT expecting fried chicken in a ration...wow. I'm at a loss for words. Never heard anyone say that shrimp from a ration was good, and certainly was not expecting crunchy fried chicken in a MRE...
In Asia, dried shrimp isn't uncommon and it usually rehydrates OK. The fried chicken, all I can say is, Hey DoD, are you looking? Gamma sterilize that bad boy, call it happy men!
Consider how America is supposed to be the great enemy yet its clearly American style food.
The sad part though is that this is likely a 24 hour ration..
I wasn't expecting him to cook the rice but he just made it one of the best mre meals I have seen in a bit
I am native south korean.
The word 북한 from the text of the package, is only used by south koreans.
North koreans use 북조선 instead.
Both words can be translated to 'north korea'.
Text must be built by translating programs.
bluebard He's right. Also north korean nerver use 치킨Chicken. They never use foreign language. In korea, 치킨chicken is 닭.
Korean mountain tea is a mixture of tea and herbs and leaves. It is usd in VERY small quantities, which is why the packet you got was resealable. You make real tea by pouring BOILING water on it, not some water that used to be boiling but is now lukewarm... Oh, and most of the rice probably fell out of the bullet hole...
Lmfao
That tea looked like straight dirt.
@@phillip_iv_planetking6354 Actually, most less common herbal teas look like they're just a bunch of random plants and grass mowed in a backyard of some village and then dried for half a year.
They're also supposed to be filtered once the appropriate time for soaking has passed (anywhere from 5 to 30 minutes, depending on the herb and tea usage), but I guess that in field there wouldn't be much chance of that - just scoop the junk weed out of your cup and drink the liquid.
The joke is that NK mountain tea is literally just dirt.
I'm south Korean.
that's too strange.
it's not korean grammar. north and south grammar are different. but we can understand.

No wonder Americans have such a poor reputation everywhere.
john smith What are you talking about John smith silly kid people like you type in American in everywhere video almost ya fucking piece of shite also I'm not American just saying before you call me one
My only concern would be the shelf life of these rations. They look more delicious than other rations I've see but I just can't see them being safe to eat after maybe a few weeks on the shelf.
I like how there was 'blood' and bullet holes in it
In Japan the seasoning is called Furikaki. We sprinkle it on the rice and eat. Never thought about cooking it with the rice, gonna have to try it now.
I've tried it both ways.- putting it on after is better I think (hence 'kake'). More texture and the taste is stonger. If you cook it, the flavor diffuses into the rice. It makes the taste more even in every bite, but also much less intense. And the texture turns to mush.
Hahahaha amazing, lotsa people not realizing it's an April Fool's joke! Great setup, btw, it'd be really hard to tell if you're unfamiliar with Korean culture! (Giveaways: Norks don't use romanized terms like 치킨 or 마운틴 or promote American style food, Koreans don't eat long grain rice, the chopsticks are weird, too much useless tea...) The way the outer box was tied was great, though! That's what got me thinking the ration was for real at first!
the tea was dirt dude
4:55 LMAO!!!!
Why the rice was loose in the package is to keep humidity out & "precook" (make it softer before cooking it) it at the same time, but the most important lesson we learned today was don't judge the book by its cover!
This ration says : Be brave fighters and get your real food from the enemy !

Better than us rations
In case anyone is wondering, yes, this is a joke. It is an April Fools. There are no such thing as NK MRE's. They do not have the infrastructure for such things. You're lucky to receive to the base necessities for existence in that nation (even in combat conditions) let alone a gourmet MRE.
Not disagreeing that DPRK citizens live a meager existence and go without a lot of necessities, including access to modern healthcare and stable food infrastructure. But I am certain DPRK soldiers are given rations. If there is one group the DPRK looks after, it's their soldiers, and rations are integral to making sure soldiers can perform in combat as well as keeping them loyal and willing to fight. If DPRK soldiers stationed on the border witnessed South Korean and NATO soldiers eating well while they are given nothing, it would only encourage defection as food is important to all people. If the people in North Korea are starving, the soldiers will always be the last to starve, well, last before DPRK Juche party members and the Kim family. If the soldiers starve, they pose a threat to the leadership. The last thing the Kim dynasty wants is a coup. Though I would not be surprised if DPRK didn't produce it's own rations and just gave their soldiers relabeled Chinese rations.
@@IronHorse1854 You’re totally 100% wright the North Korean soldier ration are old Chinese surplus rations.China properly giving it to them or selling it to them very cheap in whole sales. Also you’re wright those North Korea soldiers must have to have ration to survive and to be able to do any fighting for the Kim’s dictatorship regime.

i think that ration is real. my reasoning for that is cause if you think about it if you are a dictator in a country and you want to keep order you better make sure your army has no reason to revolt and they better know who is keeping them well fed

Lead Cookies
Made with special ingredients by the dear leader gave me bad thoughts it could be laced with meth to make soldiers go go go fighting until death from exhaustion occurs. North Korea is so strange and known for producing meth and nuclear bombs while being dirt poor. It seems to be a Russia and China's little pawn as a buffer deterrent keeping US troops from camping out on their borders to one day stage an all out hostile invasion of a final showdown throw down. As have happened in the repeating history, Eastern Europe, Baltic, and Balkans bloodlands are gamed again except this time it's the US and some NATO like Polish troops to go in guns blazing instead of Germany. War is ugly with truth being it's first casualty each time the great troubles return.
You don't cook the seasoning, it is sprinkled on top of cooked rice.

I knew publication date was April 1. Good Job. Pretty thorough too, with all the labels, and bags. It was hard to be sure at first. We all know deeply that you ARE are a great leader.
😂😂 it was a cruel joke
The food shown in the video is probably for officers. I'd imagine that the regular grunts were probably lucky to get some rice or cabbage washed down with tea. The escaped North Korean soldier from a few years back was plagued with lots of intestinal parasites and in poor condition.
Watching this again a little over a year later.. and I SO love the effort you went to pull this off!
I could see them putting loose rice in a box as a desiccant that doubles as a back-up emergency ration.
A really cheap desiccant was my first thought.
The seasoning pack was supposed to be a top dressing to the rice. It's known as furikake in Japan. I would cook the rice, split the portion, add the furikake on one, and the shrimp on the other. Otherwise, not a bad meal.
Yes Mr. Steve Martin you are correct. Here in Hawaii there are many Japanese people and it is quite common (and delicious) to wrap furikake around a piece of fish like Tuna Wahoo or Marlin then sear it in a hot wok- Aloha!
Love your movies, Steve
@@peopleskarmasquad1042
Well, he is a wild & craaazy guy
You can get furikake at Trader Joe's or a Japanese market and it is supposed to be sprinkled liberally over the cooked rice as a dry garnish. I eat this with a side of soy sauce and raw salmon.
The rice wasn't made for eating. It was meant to keep moisture out of the box
Kim must have personally made that ration box just for your review.. Amazed on the quality of it.
Love your vids.
I was like Whaaaat, that is unbelievable, and then I saw the post date April 1st. NICE
This is in fact an authentic N. Korean MRE. But it is not an individual MRE. The entire N. Korean army has to share this one meal.
Really ?
I believe the rice left in box was to absorb any moisture while being stored.
I'm South Korean and I can read and speak Korean language. Those North Korean ration packs are literally fake, because grammar and spelling of contents on the ration packs in this video are totally wrong. I think someone just wrote the translated Korean into Ration Packs.
Those rices are also fake, because the rice varieties are not the varieties that produce in North Korea.
Oh, it was 1st, April...... I see.
Would've been much more believable if the insides of the boxes were weathered too

The mountain tea looks like the main ingredient is dirt. Seriously.
oof, why's youtube gotta recommend this after april fools? Good video though, man, had me for a minute.
Can't believe that people think North Korean military packages food in this way. They have jet fighters, nuclear bombs, but puts their food in cardboard boxes. Somehow that doesn't seem right!
Just wanted to point out the "Mystery Packet" is called furikake. You were supposed to cook the rice first, then sprinkle the furikake dry over the rice, not cook it WITH the rice.
Hmm... Something smells like shenanigans.
Very entertaining however. 👍
Shenanigans indeed 😅
stickyfingaz745 almost had me. Wasn’t paying that much attention but then the whole American style chicken thing. Fun video though
I'm guessing the rice was to controlling moisture, kind of like one of those oxygen absorbers.
They made this ration so their troops would fight extremely hard to get the good food the enemy had.
Let's get it on a Tray "nice"
That's the way its done. Nice hiss.

Shrimp and lobster are only worth what they are sold for. Some people eat them everyday for free if commercial fishing vessels havent destroyed most of their waters.
