This game is part of my childhood, my life! almost every weekend I rented and finished the game, it was fascinating! It is a wonderful return to my twelve years old!
Consider that Blade Runner (the 1982 movie) was set in 2019 as well, and they said we would have flying cars, holograms on cities, and replicants. It's late 2021 (2022 in like 3.5 weeks from now) and I've yet had to see any replicant. Only thing we have is a creepy female robot who said that she'll destroy humans and a 2 year-long pandemic, which has just spawned a new version (Yes, Omicron, I'm looking at you) 🤣
@@jeffbroadbent5072 Now that you say it, Replicants were genetically-engineered humans instead of androids, so it could be the case that someone here is, in fact, a Replicant, and doesn't know that he/she is one (something like Binary Domain with the Eter Children). That meaning that I could be myself a Replicant and not be aware of it *starts becoming crazy and sparks electricity*
Fun fact (if it hasn't been pointed out already): On the last stage (best stage IMO), if you take solid left turns on the track (including the "hidden" turns), you'll drive through mostly industrial areas. In the second route, there are 2 "hidden" turns that you pass by very quickly, you have to slow down enough to make the turn. Going left in that area will take you to an oil refinery scenery!

I remember back in 1998 when I have a Megadrive emulator on a 133MHz Compaq laptop, I would take it to school and between classes so many people would gather to see me playing this game and also wanted to try. Eventually I had to start charging and had a list with the players that payed and their remaining play time. 😂 Good old days!
I was thinking 'Hm, that doesn't look like 682mph', but then I saw he drove from New York to Greece to Cambodia in less than 8 minutes. Helluva car. Can't wait to get my own one in two weeks time :D

For whatever reason in the starting stage you can actually see other roads winding around below the road you were on, not to mention you'd see the tunnel edge sprites being used as sprites for supporting the highway too. Interesting, makes it seems as though more was put into visuals rather than music.
This looks exactly like today's M6 toll road ... amazing how the prediction came true. [except for speed cameras ... that's the only reason nobody drives at the easily attainable 682 miles per hour]
it was SEGA, i read that the creator Tsunetomo Sugawara (B.T.S.) former "Hertz" had a a whole mega-cd cyberpunk snatcher type racing game almost done but SEGA made him scrap! it to make outrun 2019 SugawaraSan heart broken chosen because he built the outrun for the megadrive
One of my favorite games as a kid. The only thing i never liked was no 2 player. I mean i always imagined racing with another player with the different routes would give different opportunities to winning based on which route each player took. Passing one another with the boost. Either way, an awesome classic imo.
I remember playing this with a friend, but if memory serves me correctly, I remember this could be played with a steering wheel? I am not sure, but I remember this completely when I just saw it.

OutRun on Mega Drive plays fine. The car is a bit sensitive but it's not a problem at all, just a few secondes are enough to get used to it.
This is like Outrun and F-Zero having a child!
