    For those of you want to upgrade the ram and the CPU of this laptop to the max, here are some info about it:
    Possible highest CPU upgrade:
    Limiting Factor: 800 MHz FSB
    Intel® Core™2 Extreme Processor X9000
    Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor T9500
    RAM Upgrade Limit: 4 - 6GB, This is due to the chipset not supporting higher than 6

    They are cool. We bought one in November 2008, and until recently the right hinge was perfectly intact...
    Ours is a higher spec unit with a T5800, 3GB of RAM, 320GB hard drive, glossy (truelife) screen (or whatever it's called), webcam, this, that and whatever else. Oh, and it has a navy blue coloured lid, which is probably my favourite out of all the colours available. Glossy white looks pretty good too.
    The Latitude D630 may be famous for being a reliable business laptop, but there's more to laptops than just being reliable.

    I believe that model was available in black, blue, red, green, pink, and a few "artist edition" lids. Black was just matte, blue and red were soft touch, green was matte, and I believe pink and the artist editions were glossy. The highest end processor was I believe a 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo. Other options included Blu-ray and, if I'm not mistaken, Bluetooth. The Inspiron 1525 also had a sister model in the form of the AMD-based Inspiron 1526, which looked identical to the 1525, but obviously used AMD processors and the ATI Radeon X1270 GPU.

    I own a Dell XPS M1730, and despite the price difference at the time, you can definitely tell they are made in the same era, some of the similarities are astounding!

    Nice computer totally usable as a modern computer. VGA port with no screw holes, why they had the room for it?

    Never owned one, but I did get a chance to do a clean install and set one up. Like the author mentioned, it's a solid and venerable system for a consumer-grade device. In my mind, these Inspirons along with Windows Vista played an important role in forcing the computer industry to grow up and get with the 21st century by advocating AHCI, x64-compatible drivers (even though many of these came with 32bit Operating Systems), and more than 256MB of preinstalled RAM.

    I have an XPS M1330 from the same era (purchased brand new from Dell.com in Jan 2008) and that thing is a Frankenstein. Screen was replaced due to a crack in the bezel, hinges were replaced, motherboard was replaced (the graphics chipset failed, and the replacement will eventually die too), DVD drive ate a disk and died, and it's been through 3 batteries.
    Still works just fine for what it does now (My Dad uses it to RDC to his office), probably one of the last few working ones considering EVERY unit of this computer has the same timebomb in the graphics system. It may have lasted 7 1/2 years at this point, but I can't see it making it to 10.

    I got mine for free from a thrift store yesterday. They said it didn't work, but I got it to work (the wire though is frayed so I'll have to replace it), I also learn I'll have to get the OS reinstalled as well and it'll case a bit, but not too much thankfully if I care to do something with this.

    I used to have this as a backup laptop for when my Gateway laptop would have to take a trip to the local GeekSquad. Then this laptop became my main driver for after my Gateway kind of just died suddenly. While the Dell 1525 is a pretty good laptop, I have to say that it was a bit unnerving when things like the plastic plate that covers the hinge area started to break to the point where I needed to apply heavy duty tape while also having that common overheating problem. I was much younger when I had this laptop though, so there was no way I could have actually went and fixed the overheating problem.

    I've got the model above, the dell inspiron 1545. I believe the only big difference is the screen size, the 1525 has a 4:3 15.4" screen and the 1545 has a 16:9 15.6". I got my Inspiron back in 2009 and its still running strong apart from the battery. It has a Pentium Dual Core T4200, it originally came with Win Vista and 3GB DDR2 RAM but I recently upgraded it to 4GB. I found that Windows 7 doesn't work properly on Dell's slightly older laptops from 2008/2009, they tend to become glitchy and start running slow really quickly.

    I do miss the days of being able to simply remove a panel on the bottom of a laptop and having access to everything. Now my current hp touchsnart laptop only has a door for ram. If I want to replace the hard drive I have to remove all the screws on the bottom take the keyboard off, take the palm rest off remove a bunch of wires going to the motherboard just because they are in the way then finally get to the hard drive. I think in the future I will stick to business class machines or slightly higher end laptops that are a little thicker from brands like MSI which still use removable bottom panels.
    If anything in this laptop dies I will likely just scrap the whole thing. So far luckily in the 1.5 years I have owned it it has been reliable (knock on wood)

    My mum used to something similar to that but she bought her's in 2007 though so it might be an older Imsperon laptop that she enjoyed using until 2011 when she purchase a new Asus laptop instead. Then we were tiying to get it back running again a few weeks ago until it would not turn on though we plunged it in. So instead we took out the hardrive and the ram and we trough it away at a shop called Power City. It's not America though.

    I have a Dell Inspiron 1521 and is about ready for retirement, but has been a good computer. Except for the fact that it's still running Windows Vista with no service packs.

    Still own one, the only real laptop PC I own actually. Was about to get rid of it because it was overheating but i found a you tube video that showed me how to fix it. Awesome laptop, just as heavy as a textbook.

    i have one of these and i got it at a yard sale for a dollar. It had a 1.6ghz pentium dual core,
    which is way too slow for me. I upgraded that to a much faster Core 2 Duo at 2.40ghz. It came with a 160gb hard drive, i put a 750gb toshiba hard drive inside. It was missing a battery and power adapter, so i bought replacements. windows vista sucks, so i installed windows 7 ultimate. The battery won't charge, if you have any ideas i would love to hear them. It had 2GB of DDR2 RAM, i upgraded it to 4GB DDR2 from a toshiba laptop. If you have any ideas about the battery feel free to help me out.

    i prefer the design of my lenovo for the bottom plate because you also get access to the fan which makes cleaning it alot more easier, 2 screws and the whole bottom slides off as shown in the image i linked,

    These computers were programmed with limitations I know because I own one and then make a data update the bios and eliminating some factory settings, the computer runs twice as fast when running in 64-bit and thereby accept most memory 3.25 GB mine that has 8 GB of memory.It powered by operating system such as Win 7, 8, 8.1, 10 and linux 64bit. Solid State Disk would give him even more life and with good care and treatment will have computer for long just flown through a window dropped by stairs and not failed me yet.

      where to get the driver for dell touchpad to this same computer.

    • @Emma-xh5lp
      @Emma-xh5lp 8 років тому

      Yes, but the problem is that the computer is running win 10 64 bit but all the drivers are in 32-bit form. compatibility mode with this driver is very unstable.

    • @Emma-xh5lp
      @Emma-xh5lp 8 років тому

      Well, The main problem of the generic driver's is that they don't work very well especially the trackpad mouse the special functions don't work 100%. But last year I found unofficial 64 bit drivers for dell computers that work fine and now she's like new. And still working and giving service to this day, in fact, I'm writing this on the computer. Oh, the odd thing is that my computer came with 4 GB RAM, 500 GB HardDrive and with a Core 2 Duo Clock at 2.20 Ghz.

    I got one of these free myself. Decent little machine. It needed a good cleaning (thing roared like a jet until I removed the wall of fuzz from the exhaust port), and the left trackpad button is now dead (needs a new rubber contact inside) and the left hinge color is broken away, but with 4 GB of RAM, an extended battery, and Lubuntu 16.04, it rocks pretty hard. I call her 'Dirty Della' due to the general scuffed up appearance. Looks aren't everything. It's whats inside that counts. ;)
