Both JT & Joey have suffered many injuries in their BJJ journeys but they have also learned a crazy amount about rehab and recovery from going through these traumatic experiences. That's partly why they have as much insight as they do into this whole process and they want to save you time, agony and money by sharing their experience with you.
If you are currently injured this episode to function as a survival guide on how to get through the experience and come out the other side smarter and stronger. Bounce back quicker and turn a bad situation to your advantage.

This video is incredibly timely as I have been out of training for nearly 2 months due to a ligament injury in my right index finger. Very reassuring to hear that taking the time to fully heal and focusing on what you can do is the right process. You guys are the best!

Hey guys, Im a bluebelt, been training about 2.5 years and I just injured my right knee, at a comp 2 weeks ago. I’ve talked to an otropedic doctor and booked an appointment with a physio, so Im going to deal with it properly.
This gave me some good insights on how to move forward mentally from this. It sucks but its a part of the sport.. Thank you! Quality content as always! Best regards from Sweden

What'd they say? Had a severe MCL tear about 6 months ago and essentially trained on one leg/hiding it/giving up positions the entire time. My guard retention improved draistically as a result. Hope you recover quickly!

@@owent159 Super late reply but heres the update: MRI results came back fully ruptured ACL and probably some damage to the MCL also. Looking at rehab for a few moths and then most likely surgery.. Can’t do jiu jitsu at all right now, only lifting weights. As soon as Im able I will have to do something similar. Whatever it takes to just be on the mats and then build from there. Every day is a small step back to the mats and eventually, the podium!

I must say, I went to open mat at a local gym in my hometown recently and I suffered my first bjj injury. I am a white belt that has been training for 7 months. I was rolling with one guy and we were going VERY slow. I planted my left foot and my knee was at a 90 degree angle, I tried to shift my body and pass his guard and my knee popped out of socket for a second and popped right back into place. Now I have a slight meniscus strain that is supposed to last 6 weeks. Admittedly, this has terrified me to keep rolling as I’ve realized how easy it is to get injured in bjj. We weren’t going hard. It was very slow and controlled and my knee still gave out. What advice would you give to someone in my situation? Should I be this scared of getting injured and take a step back from bjj or continue rolling once I’m healed? I know injuries are inevitable in contact sports but I’ve just learned lately that knee injuries are extreme common in bjj. I just don’t want a life-changing knee injury and have to get surgery some day.

damn i should be more proactive about my car maintenance…
for real, awesome video! i have been training for 8 years with just some minor sprains and strains (from some combo of luck and giving a shit about injury prevention), but recently developed concerning knee discomfort . I focused my guard game on half guard, which has helped a lot with the knees, and my half guard has improved significantly.
I think BJJ folks might be too stubborn or too tough for their own good a lot of the time when it comes to addressing injury.

22:09 - Don't be fooled white belts, this is still the correct attitude to have
