Jaipongan or Jaipong is a type of traditional Sundanese social dance originating from the Karawang region, West Java Province. One of the unique features of this dance is that it has distinctive movements that are different from traditional dances from other regions. The movements in this dance provide a picture of Sundanese women who never give up, are energetic, brave, friendly, flirtatious, agile, independent and responsible, but remain polite. In addition, this dance has characteristics that include cheerfulness, simplicity, spontaneity, eroticism, humanism and enthusiasm. The Jaipong dance was born from the creativity of an artist from Bandung, West Java Province named Gugum Gumbira in the 1970s. He created the dance because of his interest in 3 types of art that caught his attention, namely Pencak Silat (Martial Arts), Ketuk Tilu Dance and Tayuban Dance However, when it first appeared, the Jaipong Dance was controversial among the public because the hip movements in the Jaipong Dance were considered unethical to be performed in front of the general public.
