@David Simms the funny thing is, the Ecto 1 being slower and more sluggish with bad handling is a part of the charm that makes it more desirable than a Lamborghini to me. I don't need to go fast; I want to slow down and relax and be imperfect.

No competition, ecto would blow away even a Bugatti.
Now get Ecto and the BTTF DeLorean together and tell people they can only get to see one - that would be interesting to see which ends up being more iconic....

I though the same thing when I saw the video about the restoration of the Back to the Future Delorean. It was almost stripped bare of all parts and just so dirty. If it wasn't made of stainless it would have probably fell apart. Movie props are really only made to do their job while filming. They are not designed to be museum pieces. When they don't degrade over time they often end up in the trash like all the small scale models used for Star Wars.

If you watch Dan Aykroyd walk into the shop, watch how he holds the guy's hand as he passes through the doorway. He does this whenever he walks into a new place. I met him once at when he was promoting his vodka at a bar I worked at. I had to hold his hand as he walked through the front door. It has to do with his belief that he is ensuring that he is not stepping into a different dimension. Odd cat, but super nice guy.

My very first car that I proudly bought my own self with no parental help (so no strings) by saving up my first after school part time Taco Bell job in 1973 at 15 when minimum wage was a whopping 1.70 per hour was my neighbor's old white 1959 Cadillac which had been sittinh for several years unused he sold me for $100! It actually started up and ran very well and I waxed and polished her up to look like new again so by the time I turned 16 and got my license I had a real cream puff of a car. Those really were beautiful beasts inside and out. Mine had a green black interior which didn't have a flaw. They had these funky, yet good, AM radios with a sort of channel finder deal. There was a button on the floorboard next to the button for headlights dimmer which made the channel slider move which was a trip. They had a laser gun looking deal mounted on the dashboard which in theory was supposed to automatically dim the headlights to oncoming traffic. It really only worked 'ok' if out in the country on a long stretch dark road and even then it was ify. It had very liberal power steering and 'drum' breaks and power windows. The engine was a Caddy 390ci V8. They were really very elegant cars on so many levels. Yes they were very big and really didn't corner too well but they were comfortable old cars and fun to drive. Kids don't have any idea today what drive-in movie theaters were about and those old BIG cars were perfect for all that!

The only thing I noticed different is the side lights on the roof were red not blue like in the movie. That is the only thing that gave it away! My first introduction to Ghostbusters was the cartoon (I was born in 82). So when I got to see the film shortly after, as much as I was excited to see the actual guys who played Peter, Ray, Egon etc. The bit I looked forward to the most was seeing Ecto 1. That car is my favourite thing about Ghostbusters. Same goes for when I first saw Batman (1989). Everyone was excited to see Michael Keaton as The Dark Knight, but I was more interested in seeing when the Batmobile showed up.

Not only seeing this absolutely iconic piece of movie history get painstakingly restored but even more so the joy and the love that Dan Aykroyd had seeing it, driving it, and talking about every nut and bolt on the thing.
