I just got a baby albino king snake and it’s been so calm with me. No hissing when handled and no biting. Still getting use to its environment but I genuinely thought my snake would be more afraid/ aggressive
I somehow lucked out getting the most puppy-dog tame boas I've ever seen. He's super inquisitive and always wanting to explore, and is never defensive or aggressive when I open up his enclosure. Ever. I think I've taken a bite from every one of my snakes, except my boa.
Mine wasn’t but as Jason promised I worked with her and she’s so much better in just two weeks of working w her everyday when not in shed or just eaten.
me: chilling on my bed with my corn snake, thinking he has already digested and pooped out his meal my snake: hmmm human is relaxed and unsuspecting, this seems like a good time to ✨surprise poop✨
I truly must say that I've watched most of the videos you've posted over the last 1-2 years and you alone have provided me with an insane fascination with Boa Constrictors. Thank you for making videos, not only does it pass time for me at work, it just gives me something to do in boring parts of my day!
Totally agree with your approach! Same principles for all ages of snakes, understand and be aware that each one will show signs of stress in a slightly different manner.
Loved that comparison between babies and adults crying that was on point 😆 But yeah definitely agree with what you’re saying I usually wait a good 48h, sometimes even more, after feeding my snakes before handling, and when they’re in shed I leave them alone for the whole process to let them do their thing stress free, my boa really doesn’t mind being handled when in shed but even so I prefer putting my snakes’ comfort before my urge to handle them
Great video :-) You hit on what I think is what generates the most questions from newer keepers is from overhandling when they first get their snake. "its been 3 days since I bought it and my ball python wont eat", stuff like that.
I love these kinda psycology based snake videoes! It really helps me to deal with my boa, yellow anakonda and ball pythons A LOT :) Knowing I dont stress them out and are making them comfortable really makes me happy - I want my noodles to be the best they can be :D Thank you for this video!
This video helped out so much I just got mines yesterday and so far she’s doing okay fed her today an she ate it no problem an as I noticed not to bother t when it’s digesting or shedding and this is definitely useful as I’m a beginner appreciate your time making this video 🎉
My entire house is cold 😅 this is why we have his heating pad abit higher than normal and he loves it. My snake is around 10 years old and loves being in a warm fuzzy blanket when he’s going to shed within that week or few days.
Jason, I love ur channel bro I love boas and want to start breeding in the future. I really like the knowledge you give, you really seem to know your boas. Keep it up man
Got a couple fancy burm babies Nov 2023. My 2 toddlers and I have held them every day since we've had them. Snakes come out of the hide immediately when the girls enter the room. Those girls absolutely love their "Smakes" kids are 3 and 4 now and smakes are 4 ft now. Looking for a 2023 hypo green male now to add to the family for future breeding projects.
The bigger ones at least. Some of the smaller ones don’t have it, but I think it’s worth the small amount of extra money to give them the windows when you can.
1) thank you for all the info you provide to beginners like me (not counting the garter snake I had when I was 7)...2) that salt n pepper beard is on point
Hey mate!, I just bought a childrens python hatchling yesterday and i have an awesome tank for it just a standard small square glass tank. Substrate, hides, fake plants etc. Ive got the heat right for a few days and checked temps constantly. Getting a temp gun tomorrow so i can read surface temps. She is such a sweet girl and got her out of the plastic container shes in and she loved being on my hand she coiled my thumb and wouldnt let go. Shes a sweetheart! Flicking her tongue in my face and gripping onto my hand. Did this for about 10 mins or so. Then held my hand in the enclosure and let her sus it out and get off my hand in her own time. She very slowly unwound off my hand and went in. She seemed super happy, checked everything out over and over. She seemed like she wanted to come out though and was almost glass surfacing at times and going round all four sides of the tank etc. She seemed so happy and was up in all the fake plants etc. Found her water bowl and rested her neck in it. Shes so cute! I think i got lucky she seems like the perfect baby. I also picked the biggest and healthiest of the babies and shes the sweetest too! Woo! Im just worried now because shes not come out for 24hrs and i cant seem to find her in the tank. The only place could be shes tucked up in her hide? According to the paper the breeder gave me she hasnt shed for almost 3 months!! What the!? Please help! Im scared shes sick or dying or something lol!
My Burmese python love comeing out sits on my settie and watch s tv with me wen it has had a nuff normally go s back in its set up on its own :) great vid looking forward to seeing more nice snakes:)
My boa (my first and only snake) is like a winning lottery ticket. Bought him from a breeder at 3 months old so I was expecting some defensive behaviour, hissing and biting. Got none of that. One time he hissed at me, he half-assed it to the point I thought he sneezed. Being a bit paranoid I accepted that I will get bitten but I have to check if he get an infection. Didn't even flinch, didn't hiss again, no reaction. He was in blue, just didn't want to be picked up. Thankfully not to the point of bitting me. Absolute gem. It's a year later and he is yet to hiss at me again. Bit me while I was feeding him, my own fault, learned from it. Poor Zaar looked more hurt and betrayed than I did.
i have 3 ball pythons. i handle my two babies(5 months old) 1-2 hours a day, and my 5 year old about the same, but i take them out when its around 75 out side and i walk them in the sun for hour or two... i dont often hold them during shed unless im showing/ teaching a visitor or friend, and i give them 2 days after eating before touching them!... but i love my snakes! they are head turners for sure! plus the constant hug and kisses ! best pets ever, he is my emotion support pet as well as i have severe social anxiety!
Awesome Snake bro very cool morph on her and you gave very good information on your video I remember when I first got my corn snake Medusa at the Tinley Park Reptile Expo I didn't handle her for a week
Got my first true red tail the other day she's a peruvian just under 2 years old and can't explain how much of a sweetheart she is, usually snakes will at least hiss after a stressful period like moving to a new home but not a whisper out of her she seems to have a lovely personality 👌👌
Outstanding video my friend. You got a subscribe from me. I like what you said about handling snakes and shed. My Mojave ball python who acts like a puppy dog was wrapped around my neck and began to shed his skin. Needless to say it was a fun experience helping him shed all of his skin while getting him off of my neck. Then he ate a nice meal and slept for two days.
Hey Jason awesome video and very informative as always man I appreciate it big fan of yours man I hope you’re family are safe and well and keep the videos coming man 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Hi Jason, my 11 year old daughter and I LOVE snakes and have 8 of them. We don't breed or power feed, we just love them. We have a female burm and a male retic. Both are handled often and we have developed a real cool trust relationship with them all. We also have 2 male boas. My daughter knows that at some point, no matter how "tame", there will come a point where we will no longer hold them alone. She knows all about the " buddy rule". I was hoping you could make a video about emergency situations such as, ok you have your buddy in the room but your snake has quickly wrapped you up and you're both now in distress. How do you disengage the snake without hurting it? I think knowing this skill could avoid a panic situation where a snake is simply being a snake and I wouldn't want to harm him\her. Thanks in advance, I love your videos and respect you as a keeper.
Great topic! My Boa is still a baby but my friends Boa is pretty big and super strong. She's a sweetheart and loves to hug. A hug to her could cut off circulation especially on a smaller person. The last time I held her, we were outside letting the kids pet and hold smaller snakes. I just let her stay on me the whole time, petting her so she got nice and comfortable. She did not want to go home with her dad when it was time to leave. He had to pry her off. I don't let any snake all the way around my neck, even a ball python or big king snake could stop blood flow to your head without even trying. Arteries and veins are outside of the muscle or any other protection. I like to let them coil my arm. They can hang over my shoulders as long as they don't go across my throat.
Heck ya you're back! Dude if you hit us 3 weeks in a row, I won't know what to do! 😂 Great video man, answered some great questions, like I honestly didn't know A/C was a bad thing, I mean obviously too cold an area is a given, but where their tank placement is in your house I didn't think was a huge deal. So I'm glad you touched base with that.
@@JasonsExoticReptiles when we getting another video bro? Maybe one showing off those new Peruvians? Idk just think they're wicked, would love to see more of them.
Sonorans are amazing Leopard or not. Boa Sigmas dont get too big 6ft is an average female 5ft average male (for my collection at least) They grow slow and eat less than BCI. They can go to colder tempatures than BCI not for extended periods and no crazy extremes. I cant reccommend them more.
I just got a ball python yesterday and the only time I handled him was when I put him in hai cage I heard some say I need to wait about a week so he gets use to his new environment and I heard others say different what should I do?
You can actually ask the snake too. If this is a long term pet, they can learn to enter a container when offered if they want to come out or not. Then you leave the container available while they are out and they will go back in when they are ready. Very helpful they can learn this since we have a harder time knowing what is comfortable for them and can't always keep their enclosure in reach while handling. I even know a few people who basically have Boas that have optional free roam hours every evening for theirs and they will actually come out and go back in on their own at "bed time", kind of like chickens do. Great video.
I know my burmese is kinda outside the norm, I guess you could say. Since day 1 as a hatchling, she's been explorative and seems to at the minimum being fine with being handled, has never struck at anyone even as a hatchling, and just overall seems like a sweetheart. I can open her enclosure and put my hand out in front of her a little ways, and she will start advancing towards me and start climbing up my arm. She generally stays in my hands, looking around and periscoping, flicking her tongue and what not. When I finally go to put her back into her enclosure it's easy to do. I haven't seen her have a stuck shed despite me handling her almost every day, she even eats literally minutes after I've handled her. I do leave her alone for about a day and a half to 2 days after feeding her so she can digest her food, of course. She doesn't get overfed and I'm not power feeding her either but she is only 3 months and a few days old and is already over 3 feet long. This is my first burmese so idk if any of that is abnormal, but I have a feeling she's gonna be a wonderful snake. She is gorgeous too, her morph seems to be a pearl, but the colors look so good even for a pearl. The top pattern is a really light yellowish orange color and the colors that separate the blotches are a beautiful light, almost neon yellow color that blends into white. I can't find another pearl on Google that looks near as pretty as far as the colors go. Hopefully she will be a good breeder because I hope to get some more of these beautiful snakes in a few years
I got the most friendly baby boas. I was watchi ng to see if I can handle them while they are getting used to there habitat. They seem fine and not stressed. Not a single strike, and I'm still in the period of waiting a week to feed so so far so good. :)
Im from trinidad in the caribbean. At around 9pm i woke up to one of these litte guys crawling around my bed there plentiful here. Now im here looking at snake care videos😂
Question, I know you guys breed them alot so what would be the difference in raising your captive bred vs my wild caught? It's a red tail btw we call them "machajuel"
@@joshua-jj8bf wild caught generally don’t do very well went moved to captivity. I think it’s from the stress of having the open environment to now being contained in a box. When imported they also pass diseases and parasites to each other, but that’s not the case in your instance. Otherwise, there isn’t really a difference
If he's warm and happy, you should be good. You should know your snake's body language. When they act shy or scared they aren't happy. It's summer so my Boa will hang out with me alot. I'm worried she'll get bored when winter comes and her hang out time goes down to just a couple of minutes at a time.
Awesome and informative video bro 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 and happy holidays to you and your family…… and is it ok if you handle them if they’re on a hunger strike cause mine been on one for about 4 months
Depends what snake and why they are not eating. If it’s winter breeding season then it’s probably okay. If they are just not eating then you want to figure out the reason before you do too much handling to make sure it’s not the stress that is causing the hunger strike
Another awesome video, wish you had time to put more out more frequently. I have a question: my 6 month old BCI likes to stay buried on the cool side even after eating. Sometimes it will go to the warm hide for a couple hours, but mostly stays on the cool side. Warm side is 85 (heat mat 89), cool side 73. I was thinking this would slow down its digestion due to not being on the warm side. I am feeding small adults mice every 7-8 days. Do you think I should change anything? Thanks again!
You can try adding a bunch of coverage like fake plants or even just some crumpled newspaper to try. Then see if anything changes if he has tons of coverage and places to hide. If the behavior changes and he is on the warm side more then you can look into changing the enclosure and hides a little to make him feel more comfortable on the warm end.
I have found making 2 hot spots available so I can alter the one not in use up or down and see what they move to helps a lot when dialing in temps for an individual animal. Sometimes they vary a bit in what they prefer.
Jay of u see this can u help me pls. I have a sharp albino female. I know she cant be bred to a kahl as it will produce normals. But what if its a motley hypo jungle het kahl? Will a het disrupt the sunglows and junglows? Or only visual?
Don't know anything about snakes and I'm a bit queasy in front of frozen mice so idk why I'm watching this but cool! I'll store this infor under my "fun facts to tell my future kids when they ask about snakes" folder of my 🧠🧠🧠
... it's ok to watch certain things even though you might not want to experience that thing in real life big bro, I love watching videos about octopus but I would never want to be close up to one though...🐙🐍👍
Handling depends on the snake. My Boa loves coming out. She loves exploring, likes people. My son's rat snake likes exploring but hates people. Sometimes he's fine other times he bites. He eats and sheds fine, he's just spicy. I give them a couple days after feeding.
@JasonsExoticReptiles my friend has a Boa with an eating disorder. She eats her food, gets the food his other snakes turn down and still tries to eat him when he tries to handle or move her. He has tried tap training. She's not mad or defensive when she bites. She bites and wraps like she's starving. She's like 2 years old. I told him maybe she's just growing fast and hungry. She's twice the size of other boas her age. She's gonna be a monster when she grows up. I hope her food aggression slows down as she matures.
Do you work with IMG/ Central American Motley at all? I haven’t been able to find one for sale anywhere. Would prefer Central American because I know they’re a little smaller. I know IMG supposedly came from Central America as well so they tend to run smaller but I don’t want something that’s going to get bigger than 7-8 feet
Bro your Sonorans are insane. Better than those "SIMG" that are out there. I'm still suspect on them. But great info for beginners and always good to watch as an experienced keeper aswell. 👍🏻
Speak from personal experience when I say I can’t stress the importance of the 7-day rule for getting a new snake enough, at least with babies for sure. Handled my brand new baby milk snake a couple times in the first week for no more than 15 minutes each time, and didn’t think much of it til he was nearing a full month without eating after refusing every meal. Finally left him alone for a FULL WEEK and next time I tried feeding (granted this time with live instead of f/t) he took and has been accepting every f/t meal offered since. Suffice to say I got off lucky, might not happen to everyone tho!
...I don't see my snakes as experiments but more like jewelery, every snake I've had, since it was I small take them everywhere I go, the snake I have now is in my pocket as we speak, I never leave it at home ever when I leave, I would never do this with a snake that's not used to it since the first few weeks of it's life, but I ween all of my pets on this type of behavior early on...🐍👍
Typically during cleaning, but it’s not hours at a time. In reality, if you handle the snakes often, they are generally not going to breed so I try to minimize the handling to just short intervals
How do you find a baby snake that burrows in the bedding to handle without over stressing? I feel like I have to turn all the bedding to find her and worry that I'm stressing her .
Just had my cornsnake for just under a week and currently working on a large vivarium for her. When I take her out would it benefit her if I let her explore her unfinished cage so she’s familiar when she moves in? Great video btw very helpful
I have my snakes cage in my basement and it’s about 78 degrees, sometimes it gets down to 75 with the light. If I hold it in my basement that’s about 73 or 72 degrees is it okay to take it out for awhile?
I never asked this question. My answer has always been to not handle a reptile more then once a day. This way they don't always think you are going to keep bugging them. I don't gaming cornsnakes the day of feeding or the 2 days after to be safe.
I'm a new baby corn snake owner, when I first got him I fed him the first day I got him then the next day I tried handing him and he bit me and slithered away in my basement. Tore up the basement looking for him but two weeks later gave up and thought he was done for. No food, no water and minimum heat in a basement. Someone told me they can survive for long periods of time like a year. Well to my surprise the little freeloader showed up in the middle of my lit bathroom a month later. Now digesting his third meal. Waiting for awhile before handling again.
I have 2 dozen snakes, all pets (some are my husbands). But it's the 3 Boas I count down the 48-72 hours after meals til I can hold them again. Netflix, reading a book, relaxing outside-is all so much better with a Boa. I love all my snakes. But Boas border on sacred to me 😄
I totally agree. Snakes are definitely a stress reliever for me. I find it very calmingto hold them. I put my favorite snake up in the living room next to my spot on the couch. That way even when I can't handle her, I can still enjoy watching her explore. Shes an African Rock python. Shes soo soo active and observant. Even more so than my reticulated pythons. I'm convinced that they are one of the smartest pythons out there.
When my Brazilian Rainbow was a baby, we had a very reliable interaction for around 3 weeks. I picked him up and he bit me. Lol After around 3-4 weeks he never bit me again. He’s just over 2 years old now.
Are there dwarf boas. Someone in my area is trying to sell a dwarf t+ albino red tail. But it sounded alil fishy to me. But I don't know much about boas
I had my snake since 6 years 4 of those my brother took care of it. He never handled her and I havent tried since, shes been super defensiv. Do you think I can get her to get used to it again?
Hi! I recently got a baby corn snake on the 17th , my mom surprised me and I did not know your not supposed to handle then right when you get them and I held her for around 30 minutes everyday and stopped the 22nd but she will not eat and I’m worried, she drinks water and has humidity and heat, but she refuses to eat the pinkie mice I got her and I’m wondering if I should wait for another week without handling her and try again? But I don’t want her to starve so do you know what I should do?
I don't handle after feeding until the buldge is gone. If i just spent a couple hours at golden corral eat half my weightin steak, i don't want to be messed with either.
Wait another week or two. It can take them 3-4 weeks to go after eating. Only time to worry is if they are acting sluggish and havent gone in a few months.
In order to keep humidity he will likely need to add a nice thick layer of damp bedding and cover most of the top if you are using the screen top. Humidity only happens when you have heat and less airflow
I just LOVE your video´s Jason. the Leopard boa´s are indeed growing on me, and thinking of getting one. have had a bastard and also had a BCO which sadly died due to not beeing able to give birth to her babies 😢 how big does leopards get comparred to BCC and BCO´s? i´m wondering because my BCO was close to 3 meters ( 9-10 feet ) i think that is? One last thing, do you ship to Europe/Denmark? Thank you for the time you take to entertain us Boa lovers and your lovely video´s! Best wishes from Denmark
Thank you and sorry to hear about your bco. Sonorans will get about 4-6 ft for males and 5-7 ft for females. Unfortunately I do not ship outside the US
My boa has suddenly gone off eating his temps and humidity are all ok hes a BCI i was thinking it might be due too these winter months or should they be consistently eating every month during the year?
It’s possible due to winter. Even when temps and humidity is constant in the enclosure there are natural pressure changes and light cycles that they pickup and we don’t.
I have a male that’s about 6 months old and I NEVER see him on his hot side. His cool side fluctuates like crazy depending on the weather outside, from 70-80 degrees. One day last week it got really cold outside and it dipped down to the upper 60’s. I picked up a space heater to supplement the heat in my bedroom. My question to you is is this normal? I have him in a tub setup for now while he’s still growing, and I’ve found that the humidity is easier to control but the temperature is a pain.
Hey! I have a very random question. I'm interested in getting a snake, I've never owned one before and to be honest I'm a little scared of them but I was wondering if I NEED to hold them or if its something that I don't need to hold? I would like to slowly become more confident in touching/holding a snake so I wouldn't like to jump right into getting one if I cant take care of it properly. Get back to me when you can! :]]]]
Technically no. Other than moving to clean, they would probably prefer if you didn’t bother them. With that said, once they understand d that you are not going to hurt them, I feel that they can enjoy coming out and having the interactions.
I own a ball python since 5 years. I've had him since he was around 1 year old. I rarely handle him. Only to weight him, clean the enclosure or to show him to friends and family who are interested once every few months. He's super chill, eats well and has a very chill temperament. Although I don't handle him as often as other snake lovers, he is very comfortable with it. I guess he knows by now that I'm the food source and I respect him.
We bought our boa about two weeks ago he has been so sweet, gave him a week to settle in without handling then we handled and he was very nice! The breeder said he’s always been calm, so then we fed him, and he ate we gave him 48-72 hours to digest food. My 6 year old went in to handle and then he bit him lol I guess he thought he was food. Any tips?
What you do mean by "he went in"? Maybe it felt threatened. It's usually best to handle snakes as an adult and then place them into children's hands after they know everything is good.
If you search jason’s exotic reptiles male vs female boas on UA-cam I have a video that explains this. It’s pretty old so probably time to remake in better quality.
Hey, í´ve got a 4 month old cornsnake and i handle her once a week now. I handled her more at the beginning, but then she would always hide in her enclousre. Now í´m seeing her more often. Should i handle her more? Greetings from germany :)
Each snake is going to have its own likes and dislikes....I have 1 royal, who wants to sit beside me when he's in shed. He will sit for hours, with his head on my arm. I've even fallen asleep for a few hours and he didn't move away. Then there are others who don't want to come out and just want to be left alone.
Lol till next week or next time.. Yeah. Well, pretty little girl i miss my ladies that small. Well ones 11.5 ft and the other is 9 ft now. Retics grow so fast.
I just got a baby albino king snake and it’s been so calm with me. No hissing when handled and no biting. Still getting use to its environment but I genuinely thought my snake would be more afraid/ aggressive

Hey mate!,
I just bought a childrens python hatchling yesterday and i have an awesome tank for it just a standard small square glass tank.
Haha exactly. I’d say about 95% of boas are fantastic. I purposely picked some of the more nervous ones for this video.
i have 3 ball pythons. i handle my two babies(5 months old) 1-2 hours a day, and my 5 year old about the same, but i take them out when its around 75 out side and i walk them in the sun for hour or two... i dont often hold them during shed unless im showing/ teaching a visitor or friend, and i give them 2 days after eating before touching them!... but i love my snakes! they are head turners for sure! plus the constant hug and kisses ! best pets ever, he is my emotion support pet as well as i have severe social anxiety!
Awesome Snake bro very cool morph on her and you gave very good information on your video I remember when I first got my corn snake Medusa at the Tinley Park Reptile Expo I didn't handle her for a week
Great channel, Keep up the good work!
Thank you!
Got my first true red tail the other day she's a peruvian just under 2 years old and can't explain how much of a sweetheart she is, usually snakes will at least hiss after a stressful period like moving to a new home but not a whisper out of her she seems to have a lovely personality 👌👌
Great video, very clear and informative. Thank you, stay healthy and happy to you & your family.
Thank you!!
Very Nice video. Good teaching too. I did share in Canada. Thank's Jason for Sharing.
Thank you!
Hey Jason awesome video and very informative as always man I appreciate it big fan of yours man I hope you’re family are safe and well and keep the videos coming man 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Recently found your channel, great info and gorgeous animals!
Thank you!
Great advice! And I love leopard boas! Under appreciated morph for sure.
I sometimes handle my python when they're exploring their enclosure.
But after feeding I wait 2-3 days
I like the topic! I’ll see what I can do
Great topic!
Great information bro keep them coming
Thank you! I have a 4 ft ball python named Sheldon who LOVES being out. I have to watch him like toddler lol
So helpful! And that’s a beautiful snake u got
Thank you!
Thank you!!
@@JasonsExoticReptiles when we getting another video bro? Maybe one showing off those new Peruvians? Idk just think they're wicked, would love to see more of them.
Leopard Boas! I've noticed the Sonoran boas lately in general, would love some details on their size and other details sometime.
@@kingoftheclutch8140 Theres a Sonoran boa on the European morphmarket. And the size they get is perfect for me. What should I do haha
That Leopard Boa Is 🔥🔥🔥
I just got a ball python yesterday and the only time I handled him was when I put him in hai cage I heard some say I need to wait about a week so he gets use to his new environment and I heard others say different what should I do?
Just found your channel. Great videos.!!
Thank you!
Another great video Jason. Thanks. I do have one question ---- What time of day is the best time to handle your snake ?
I try to handle my snakes during their natural active time.
Thank you! It can’t hurt to handle during their normal active time but it shouldn’t make a huge difference. They will adjust to us and our schedule.
I never have to pull my adults out anymore! They come to the door to be let out when they want to explore 😊 My juvenile balls however... very shy
Oh wow that leopard looks awesome 😍
Title: How often can you handle your snake
Me: I handle my snake all the time.. Oh wait.. 😂
Im from trinidad in the caribbean. At around 9pm i woke up to one of these litte guys crawling around my bed there plentiful here. Now im here looking at snake care videos😂
Haha that’s scary and awesome at the same time
Question, I know you guys breed them alot so what would be the difference in raising your captive bred vs my wild caught? It's a red tail btw we call them "machajuel"
@@joshua-jj8bf wild caught generally don’t do very well went moved to captivity. I think it’s from the stress of having the open environment to now being contained in a box. When imported they also pass diseases and parasites to each other, but that’s not the case in your instance. Otherwise, there isn’t really a difference
Can you do a video on the different types of anery and what they do?
I can try for sure
Good topic, I like your sweater 👌
:)
The reason youre one of my favorite reptile guys is cause you dip into alittle of everythin g
@@JasonsExoticReptiles yes I believe it’s because it’s breeding because he’s a little over a year now and thank you bro ohhh and it’s a ball python
You want to avoid crossing Kahl and sharp even if possible hets
I one hundred percent agree!
I work with a bunch of Central American and various CA morphs. I’d say it is very rare for any male or even female boa to exceed 8 ft.
Bro your Sonorans are insane. Better than those "SIMG" that are out there. I'm still suspect on them. But great info for beginners and always good to watch as an experienced keeper aswell. 👍🏻
Hi Jason I would like to learn more about handling my snake
Speak from personal experience when I say I can’t stress the importance of the 7-day rule for getting a new snake enough, at least with babies for sure. Handled my brand new baby milk snake a couple times in the first week for no more than 15 minutes each time, and didn’t think much of it til he was nearing a full month without eating after refusing every meal. Finally left him alone for a FULL WEEK and next time I tried feeding (granted this time with live instead of f/t) he took and has been accepting every f/t meal offered since. Suffice to say I got off lucky, might not happen to everyone tho!
...I don't see my snakes as experiments but more like jewelery, every snake I've had, since it was I small take them everywhere I go, the snake I have now is in my pocket as we speak, I never leave it at home ever when I leave, I would never do this with a snake that's not used to it since the first few weeks of it's life, but I ween all of my pets on this type of behavior early on...🐍👍
Hey there. When you have as many snakes as you do, how often do you handle them all?
Typically during cleaning, but it’s not hours at a time. In reality, if you handle the snakes often, they are generally not going to breed so I try to minimize the handling to just short intervals
How do you find a baby snake that burrows in the bedding to handle without over stressing? I feel like I have to turn all the bedding to find her and worry that I'm stressing her .
Just need to go in and grab them. As long as it’s not every hour and a brand new snake, you will be fine.
@@JasonsExoticReptiles thank you !!
Thanks you for the advice. I typically handle mine only on cleaning day, but my question is is it better to handle them in the daytime or nighttime?
Shouldn’t make a difference. Either is fine.
Just had my cornsnake for just under a week and currently working on a large vivarium for her. When I take her out would it benefit her if I let her explore her unfinished cage so she’s familiar when she moves in? Great video btw very helpful
Thank you. It can’t hurt, but I can’t see much benefit beyond seeing something new
Should I write down feedings and poops?
I do not, but you could especially if you only have one or a few animals.
I have my snakes cage in my basement and it’s about 78 degrees, sometimes it gets down to 75 with the light. If I hold it in my basement that’s about 73 or 72 degrees is it okay to take it out for awhile?
That would be fine
@@JasonsExoticReptiles thank you!
I'm convinced that they are one of the smartest pythons out there.
awesome
When my Brazilian Rainbow was a baby, we had a very reliable interaction for around 3 weeks. I picked him up and he bit me. Lol
After around 3-4 weeks he never bit me again. He’s just over 2 years old now.
Are there dwarf boas. Someone in my area is trying to sell a dwarf t+ albino red tail. But it sounded alil fishy to me. But I don't know much about boas
There are dwarfs but I would just stay away from that one.
I had my snake since 6 years 4 of those my brother took care of it. He never handled her and I havent tried since, shes been super defensiv. Do you think I can get her to get used to it again?
Absolutely. Just start right back up.
@@JasonsExoticReptiles Thanks!
Does anyone know what kind of racks these are behind him?
Freedom breeder.
Always Best!
My 8 Month year old wild type retic. Won’t go toilet can you give me any advice.it’s been like a week after feeding thanks love from the uk 👊🇬🇧
Wait another week or two. It can take them 3-4 weeks to go after eating. Only time to worry is if they are acting sluggish and havent gone in a few months.
@@JasonsExoticReptiles thank you mate she finally went out her in a bath tub with warm water 👍🏻🇬🇧
Hi first time ball owner. How can I keep humidity up other than the water dish and spraying the bedding? Can I add moss?
... put a not too warm heat source under where the water dish is and that will usually provide all the humidity you could even imagine creating...🐍👍
In order to keep humidity he will likely need to add a nice thick layer of damp bedding and cover most of the top if you are using the screen top. Humidity only happens when you have heat and less airflow
if it doesn't mind being held can i hold it twice a day every other day
I just LOVE your video´s Jason.
the Leopard boa´s are indeed growing on me, and thinking of getting one. have had a bastard and also had a BCO which sadly died due to not beeing able to give birth to her babies 😢 how big does leopards get comparred to BCC and BCO´s? i´m wondering because my BCO was close to 3 meters ( 9-10 feet ) i think that is?
Any tips?
I know everyone says this, but hook training really wouldn't hurt.
What you do mean by "he went in"? Maybe it felt threatened. It's usually best to handle snakes as an adult and then place them into children's hands after they know everything is good.
@@alexcrowder1673 he’s hooked trained
How do you know if your animals are in shed??!!
I 've never seen anyone sex snakes by 'tail palpation' Wish you had been able to explain a little bit....
If you search jason’s exotic reptiles male vs female boas on UA-cam I have a video that explains this. It’s pretty old so probably time to remake in better quality.
Do you ship boas intentionally?
Plz reply i really want to get a boa
I have an order going to Canada but nothing usually
Is it normal for my Python to be lazy after feeding
I handle mine all the time. My boas are super tame.
I handle my snakes once a week like for 10 min. If the snake is defensive ill handle it more regularly.
Hey, í´ve got a 4 month old cornsnake and i handle her once a week now. I handled her more at the beginning, but then she would always hide in her enclousre. Now í´m seeing her more often.
Should i handle her more? Greetings from germany :)
That’s up to you. Some people never handle and others do it daily.
Whoa. 😁
Haha you caught that lol. I can’t promise weekly but I’m trying to stay on top of it.
