I crashed a 4K drone FOR work. They told me to film an explosion. I did. The debris from the explosion took it out. They asked me fly again the next day with a different drone. Love my job.
Not as much power, but I bet it does better at medium range, and does some impressive/weird things at low velocity due to that crazy spin. Or a frag round at mod-high velocity that grenades REALLY impressively due to that centrifugal force.
I have never commented before, but I just wanted yens to know as soon as this hits the shelf I’m going all in. The moment I seen this at shot show it was the fastest decision I’ve ever made in my mind. A bolt shorty for hunting big game silenced hell ya!! You guys rock keep up the good work Gõdspeed brõthers.
This is a badass cartridge. I think picking up all the energy in rotation is a great way to enhance the subs. I also agree that 338 has amazing bullet options. This will be a big hit if there is enough companies who accept it and build aftermarket ammo, barrels etc...
I think the best example of rotational energy is a flywheel. The larger the diameter or weight, the harder it is to slow it down. The faster you spin it, the more energy it stores. Same concept with the bullet. It certainly is harder to compare rotational energy between different bullets. A wadcutter is probably the easiest since it's basically a constant diameter. Different ogives of course change the sectional density making it extremely difficult/impossible to calculate off the cuff.
Good point on the 375 raptor... everyone says if you're doing subs+supers you need adjustable gas. It's a sexy cartridge, but it's also going to be a bit warm in a full-size honey badger. Kicks like a 50 beowulf+p.
@Q LLC I'll be testing the 8.6BLK soon on my channel as soon as I source a barrel from @Faxon Firearms ! I have a high speed slow motion video camera so stay tuned for some sweet ballistic gel shots!
I’d rather people think stuff suck so people like me who love REAL innovation and calculations can take advantage of this and 8.6 will be available for me to have... that’s until they eat their words and finally give in too the Q Krew
The 375 uses 400 grain bullets by way of a specially made subsonic copper expander made by Maker just for the Raptor. Wicked looking bullet. Way less twist though, and it's a blunt inefficient bullet. Probably goes super deep though.
Maker is going to put out a 350 gr bullet just for 8.6 expanding subs. The weight advantage of 375 is getting encroached on, while the spin difference contributing to wounding might make up the rest. Food for thought.
I wonder if the use of gain-twist and ratchet-rifling might help reduce friction while containing gas blow-by with that crazy twist. (Not pretending to know, just curious)
The footage I've seen coming from people shooting 8.6 there's been a lot of ricochet or bullet skipping, is this a noted side effect of the increased spin or are we just hearing it more clearly?
I think you need to hit the importance of magazines more, even a whole podcast on it. People see magazines as an afterthought, but as you rightly pointed out, they make or break the weapon.
Ok, help me out here. Looking at the available bullets and plugging in the BCs and velocities as advertised into my ballistics app the drop on this round is atrocious. If my calculations are accurate I don’t know how you could use this gun in the field with this kind of drop. What am I getting wrong?

You need to work on the super sonic ammo, it seems a little weak need a high BC and a 160 to 170 grain bullet with more FPS , the sub sonic is fine also need the super sonic bullet to have a lower fps for expansion
I understand why someone asked the "mini-fix" question. I think maybe what they wanted to ask was will you consider making a short-barreled fix or fix with a brace?
Curious, and NO SHADE INTENDED: Is there an increase in chamber pressure when going with an ultra fast rate of twist? How about less velocity; all things being equal?
I ask, because as we all know, there are no free lunches in life. While kinetic energy on target by way of rotational forces, the increased expansion therein, the reduction in both noise and flash are all positives, is the ONLY downside that non-bonded projectiles are not recommended? FWIW, I am a happy owner of a Thunder Chicken.
