Lian Li Strimer V2 Plus 600 watt 12VHPWR RGB cables wiring guide and tips

- In this video I'm showing off the Lian Li Strimer V2 Plus cables that are specifically designed for Nvidia's 40-series graphics cards and work with the 600watt PCIe connector. There are three different models available being shown here, so it's important to ensure you have the right one.
There are two cables which have that 600 watt 12VHPWR connector on both ends, this requires a PCIe gen 5 power supply unit with the right sort of connection OR a dedicated cable with that option. Alternatively you can get a cable that works with the three 8-pin PCIe connections you'd usually get from your power supply unit for graphics cards but then terminates into a 600watt connection style that connects to the GPU.
In this video I'm showing how these cables are installed, the logic for doing it, things to think about and how to avoid any issues.
Note that I've done a couple of videos on the previous Strimer cables and how those connect. To get the best out of these GPU cables you'll also need the control box that's included with the original 24-pin strimer cable:

Lian Li RGB not working? Here's the fix for L-Connect • Lian Li RGB not workin...
The new STRIMER PLUS V2 12VHPWR cables feature a custom design 12VHPWR male connector at the GPU end. The connector follows the ATX 3.0 standard of a 12+4pin with improvements to its original design to provide a stronger connection to the GPU, and uses materials to ensure the connector’s durability. Built with 16AWG wires to deliver up to 600W, the STRIMER PLUS V2 12VHPWR cables can sustain higher temperatures and sharper bends even when it is close to the connector. For extra bending tolerance, part of the connector housing can be removed to allow the extension cables to bend even closer to the connector and improve large GPU’s compatibility with narrow PC cases.
With ATX 3.0 power supplies, there are two STRIMER options which are built with a 12VHPWR female connection at the PSU cable end. The first one features a wider array of LEDS with 12 light guides and can be connected to an existing STRIMER L-Connect 3 controller into the 3x8pin slot for instant compatibility. The second option is slimmer with 8 light guides and is compatible with the 2x8pin slot of the existing STRIMER L-Connect 3 controller. For older PSUs without 12VHPWR, users can opt for the STRIMER PLUS V2 12VHPWR 12+4pin to 3x8pin. This gives the option to directly connect the STRIMER PLUS V2 to modern GPUs. Featuring 8 light guides, the STRIMER PLUS V2 12VHPWR 12+4pin to 3x8pin is compatible with the 2x8pin slot of the existing STRIMER L-Connect 3 controller.

I couldn’t find the 12 light version
I really like how these cables are reversible. Removes all the guesswork from it, unlike those Cablemod adapters that I wasn’t sure which one to get because I wasn’t sure which GPU I’ll get, and both were in short supply..
THANK YOU. Been trying to find a video showing how the Lian Li cables are connected to the power supply. I was fairly confident they were just extenders but I wanted to see someone actually plug it in to verify. Watched dozens of videos and you're the first to actually show both ends getting connected.
I aim to please :)
Dude you are killing it with product coverage. Already subbed and followed but it's crazy how the closer I get to finishing my build and looking stuff up the more I run into your content. Great stuff, keep up the good work!
Thank you 👍
You saved my PC!! I’ve seen so many of your videos and each one, step by step, helped me complete my build for my first pc. So much to learn about different components and builds from one channel. Keep up the amazing work 👌
One of the only videos i could find that throughly explains the different cable configurations thank youuuu squid man!!!
Glad I could help! But prawns are not squids
@TheProvokedPrawn yes I realize that now. I watched the video, saw your costume at the end, and then instantly commented! 😞
Provoked Prawn just one word about your video contents... AMAZING! Thank You!
Thanks Daniele. Appreciate it 🦐
thankyou so much for making this video, now im confident that they are all basicly an "extender"
Great video! Very informative, easy to follow and cleanly presented.
I'd like to point out that it's definitely best practice to use 3 separate cables over split cables from PSU to GPU, as shown at 10:08.
The 6950 XT would not run without issues while using a split cable, and I would estimate the same results with a 40 series card, even though their required wattage is lower.
I know this is a old video but you save me soo much time i was looking for this 8:55 and you very much explained everything now i can buy the right stuff for my 4070ti gpu Thankyou so much.
Glad to help. Hope you enjoyed enough to subscribe 🦐
Hey thanks! I've just done my first rgb build and your videos helped me a lot! A far cry from my previous build where i just plopped the 3 fans that came with my case right into the mobo lol!
Thanks Hannah. Glad to help. Hope that means you're subscribed too. Enjoy the PC 👍🏼
Good to see your still making videos! I used to watch you like 2 or 3 years ago!
Hey, thanks!
I ended up creating a pretty cool way to use a 2x8 on top of a 12VHPWR Adapter from Cable MODS using translucent rubber bands that you can only see up close with the PC off.
It worked magically
Finally, someone who didn't call them "streamer" cables.
when I saw Lian Li's video presenting these about an hour ago, I was like "hmm I wonder when the Provoked Prawn will give us a video about these new cables..." and here it is !!! Thank you for making amazing videos like that it's very precise and SUPER usefull ! you basically made my gaming setup and it's perfect
Amazing. That's a nice thought process. I hope others have it too. Glad I helped! Thanks for watching.

Prawn thank you for your amazing content. Truly love the information you give out and the help. Wanted to ask you what you recommend I have a GEN5 motherboard and everything else but I have a EVGA 3080 CX3 black 3080 and I wanted to connect strimer which ones would you recommend for me to install? Thank you in advance.
good info as always thank you
Thanks Richard. If you're interested watch out for my videos on the Lancool 216 coming soon where hopefully I'll install this cable in better ways :)
@@TheProvokedPrawn sweet I'll keep a lookout for it
Love your channel and informative videos - especially the the intricate wiring for Lian Li Fans etc. I am struggling at the moment to establish which Strimer cable I need for the Gigabyte 4070ti Super Aero 16Gb card I have just bought. There are different versions of the power connectors and the technical spec for the card talks about 1 x 16pin connector but the Strimer has versions Strimer plus V2 16-8 pins and Strimer plus V2 16-12 pins. - can you help me determine the one I need please? Keep up the good work :-)
Nice vids. Will this work if i will connect it to corsair internal 4 port usb2.0 hub? Will the L connect app work also?
I am not sure what to go with I dont really know what PCie gen my Rm1000x is but I am running it w a 4090 which strimer plus v2 cables would I get? Also you mentioned needing to buy the old 24pin strimer to get ur control box correct?
great mr prawn!
Thanks Kevin
Hey, sooo I have a 2x8 pin Stimmer cable, am I able to use that to connect it to the adapter that comes with the card? Thanks
Nice guide, very helpful! My main complaint is that Lian Li hasn't made a universal hub for all their products. The software imo is good and works well with the three varieties of products I'm using. It just stinks to have to shove 3 hubs into the back of a smaller case in order to use strimmer, tl lcd fans and sl infinity fans.
Yeah that's a fair criticism
Noob question, i have a cable mod psu cable that connects to the gpu will it work with the 1st lian cable that you showed?
Question: I see the old school one has 3 8pin connectors, but my SUPRIM has 4. Will this still work ? I don’t see they made ken with 4 pcie connectors
Is it able to use 2 of the L3 connectors for a third cable and does the lian software recognise the 2nd connector? I want to get of the rgb stripes of the third cable, tie them up somehow with the Cpu cable of the PSU and get the same light effects like on the other ones.
So with the 3 pcie of the cable can you use one 8 pin to pcie and the other 2 daisy chained 8 pins to a 12vhpwr ?
Do you know if the 12vhpwr to 3 x 8 pin cables will work with a 4070 ti super? And if so, do I have to plug all the cables in?
I have a question about your rad placement in the case, which I'm building in the black version. How much does pulling warmed air in through the rad raise ambient temp in the case?
My plan is to place the rad in the top of the case to exhaust the heat charged air, while intaking from side and bottom, also discharging from the back of the case.
Temp difference between the cool outside air and the rad is greater than between the hot inside air and the rad. Therefore CPU temps wil be higher when the rad is placed in the top of the case instead of the front.
Is it safe to use the Asus plug from the 4090 to plug into the Strimer? So 3 connectors into asus plug into strimer or is that too much daisy chaining?
With the 4070TI there is a 12+4 pin to 2 x 8 pin adapter. For this card would you buy the 3 8pin strimer and connect all 3 of them or just leave one empty? It's just slightly confusing since the adapter that comes with the 4070TI only has 2 8 pin connectors.
Was wondering the same but you could get double sided 12vwpr and then have the adapter that your currently using on the end of that
Yeah, no one has given a solid answer on this. A few people on reddit have said they used the 3x8 pin and left a slot empty. This is the route I'm probably going to go, but I hate leaving that 3rd slot. Pretty large oversight on the part of Lian Li...
Buy the one with 2 12vhpwr connectors then use the one that came with your card.
@@l10n79 I don’t get what your saying, the card comes with a 2x8 pin so there would still be a slot empty
@@sick2426 You can use the adapter, so buy the one with two 12vhpwr connects, one for gpu and the other side goes to the adapter, then to PSU, forgoing the dual 8pin problem. The car will only pull what it needs so if you have more connectors it won't really matter. I have an amp airo extreme 4070ti with 3 and I use my adapter with this strimmer cable.
Do I need to use all 3 8pin PCIE on the strimer cables or will 2 be ok?
Can I also use the Lian-Li Strimer Plus V2 12VHPWR 3x 8 with only two 8 pin connectors ?
Great Video, the voice of this dude is sooooo relaxing! Just one quick question.... if i have already the controler and the 24 pin strip, can i use the old controler for the new 12VHPWR extention?
thank you
I’m new to pc gaming/building and after doing days of research I have most of my build ordered expect the strimmer.
Just to make sure I’m understanding this correctly, the v2 plus 24 pin is for the motherboard and the 12vhpwr is for the 40 series gpu ?
Yes
Is it supposed to make a click sound when you connect it? I plugged the new power connector on my 4090 and there is no click.
Can I connect to the PCIe (x2) port-to-port adapter that comes with the GPU and connect it to the Power Supply RM1000X?
thanks this is exactly what i was looking for
Glad to help!
I'll watch properly in a bit, but just a quick one: would you recommend these as an upgrade to someone who bought the previous Strimer Plus series? Are there any new features at all?
If you take a look at the official site you'll see they have made changes. The light bars are closer together for instance. They're also more flexible and wider. But also fit the 40-series GPUs now, which the old ones don't.
@@TheProvokedPrawn thanks, I'm still on a 3070 so I don't have to worry about compatability. Would you say there's less of a bezel between the strips?
I’ve got a 4070 Aero. One 16 pin from the card into 2x8 pins into my RM750X psu.
Can I just take the 16 pin out of the GPU currently and connect into the strimer, then plug the other end of the strimer into my GPU? Haven’t bought yet and not fully clued up.
Can I use these with a 7800 xt? Which strimer cables would I buy? Any help would be appreciated 🙃
Hey! Great video! I currently ordered the strimer with the 3x6 to the 12 for my 4070 ti. I was wondering if you knew whether or not I would connect all three of the 3x6 or just two because the 4070 only uses 2 of those!

hi i have colorful igame 4070 super ultra and it has 12pin. i have a dual 8pin strimer v2. can i connect them through the 12vhpwr?
How would I use one of the triple 8 pin versions of this 12vhpwr to connect to the 4070ti? Since the 4070ti only needs 2 8 pins to power the gpu do I need to plug in 8 pin power connectors into all 3 of the 8 pin connections on the Strimer?

Hopefully someone can help me out, I have a 4070ti would the 3x8 pin plugin version work for my card? Since the card only requires 2x8 pcie plug-ins to the 16 pin adapter ? Awesome video. Which one would I use for a 3080 with 2 8 pin connectors?
Hello! The 30-series doesn't support the 12VHPWR connector I believe? It's a different design - assuming you're talking about the FE?
You can use the strimer v2 plus dual 8 pin version. These strimers are for the 40 series only

Quick question: Power Unit Corsair RM850 doesn't have a 12VHPWR. But my GPU came with a splitter (?) from 12VH male to 2x 8pin female. Can I connect it to 2 PCIe/CPU slots on the power unit ?
Then you'd want the strimmer that has the two PCIe 8 pin connectors at one end and 12vhpwr at the other. Don't try to connect that adapter directly to your PSU
What if the 5Volt 3 pin is already being used? (Motherboard only haves one)
So this will work on a 4090 and a Corsair gold standard 1000e psu?
So, the cable you order depends on the type of Power Supply that you have? So should I just buy a Power Supply with the 12VHPWR output to make my like easier since I'm currently building a PC?
that is the easiest option yes
Can I use the 3x8 vhpwr cable for my 4070?

Quick question , I have a RM1000x PSU and am thinking about getting a 4080 Super . Which of these Strimer cables would I get?
Do you have the 12vhpwr connector with that PSU with a single connector on either end? If so, there's a strimer cable with the same logic.
