She really does sound like two different persons when she switches between Japanese and English, it is amazing.
It's like her voice enters cute mode in Japanese. A lot of people change the way they talk while speaking different languages, it's very common. It's just interesting to see that a lot of Japanese girls in specific have that cute voice similar to what you hear in anime only when they talk Japanese.
I missed her dark content before she got hired full time. She deleted all those tweets and videos.
i'm guessing it's because she was trained to do that voice especially in acting so she's used to it (?)
My Japanese friends and I have discussed how our voices and mannerisms change when we speak Japanese.
We came to the conclusion that it’s cultural. It’s interesting and fun.

Her personality shift between Japanese and English is so drastic it's as if she was dubbed by Crunchyroll.
It's different cause Japanese is automatically conformed to be "kawaii" while talking while in English you just speak in a normal voice
Any company that wants to compete with Crunchyroll should hire her to some dubbing here!

If anyone is curious, the reason Sally is so different in English and Japanese is something in language called code switching.
Basically it’s a psychological shift you have when speaking to different people because you have different words to use to express yourself (ex. The way you talk to your boss, your family, and your friends are all different.) Speaking two languages, and especially English and Japanese, emphasize this effect because not only do you have different words but also different sentence structures AND cultural conventions to express ideas.
You're describing the basic phenomenon correctly, but it's rare to see such a sharp contrast in voice and attitude when naturally code switching, outside of comedic bits.

that's not codeswitching. codeswitching is basically what every non-white person in america does in different social situations. to white people, it seems like some kind of phenomena but to everybody else, it's just what you do.
@@CaptainRegular the reason why this effect is so severe for japanese people is because a lot of younger japanese girls talk in a very fake and cutesy way. i guarantee the effect would not be as nearly pronounced if it was a middle-aged japanese man switching between english and japanese.
@@jp-sn6si I agree; that is code switching too. Communicating between cultures is a big part of it. The way people of color live and interact at home is usually totally different from the way white society expects. Language, however, is also heavily tied to culture as I mentioned. Both of these factors can affect code switching. I think there’s a lot to say in the comparison of people of color codes switching in American society to how Japanese society expects women to act and how Sally might change with that expectation. To your second point, there are tons of other psychological phenomena that everyone does daily without thinking about, but that doesn’t make them any less interesting.

Yeah, I saw the same thing happen with Korean women. Some of them are super cute and feminine when they speak in Korean but then become off-putting as soon as they start speaking English.

Pretty common with bilingualism I think. I remember I had a classmate in college from Hong Kong who's soft spoken and polite in English, but apparently is a vulgar and brash person who swears a lot when speaking in their native language to the only classmate who can understand them. (iirc it was Cantonese / language where swearing was commonplace? But it's been so long I'm not sure any more)
English: normal American person
Japanese: ultra mega cute

I really like how the tone,speed & pitch of her voice changes with a simple shift in language. Not sure if it’s deliberate or not but it’s awesome none the less.
That's how you know they aren't a native. And yes it's 100% deliberate. It's like when a Spanish person speaks perfectly fluent English with no accent but as soon as they start speaking Spanish suddenly they change their tone and emphasize certain words/parts of words.
I've actually never seen somebody who speaks English and Japanese this fluently, it was actually shocking
