Lesley Gore was like a fine wine. While so many others reached their peak while young, she only improved with age. Her artistry, soulfulness, and musicianship are some of the best in the business and entirely underrated. Rest in peace, Ms. Gore. I am devastated I never had the opportunity to see you in person.
I have 3 little girls and I tell them every year on their birthday they can cry if they want to. I’m a 80’s baby and first heard this song in the movie problem child.
My heart is broken... She was so popular when I was in college.... GREAT MEMORIES.... what a POWERFUL voice... saw her in IOWA during a 60's reunion with other greats... she out sang all of them.... she was so tiny.... I think she was all of 5'2" ....
+Deborah N. Yeah, she was 5'2" when she passed on. I would have loved to meet her when she was alive. And, I don't care that she was a lesbian...her music far outweighed her lifestyle choice(s).
I just love this song. A 14 year old boy sang it on A.G.T. on Tuesday night. And Howie Mandel gave him the golden buzzer. He sang it really good. Lesley sings it really good also. Keep it up Lesley. ❤🌻
Damn, Lesley, you give me chills watching you perform this number. You gave it your all, and it’s one of the best female performances I’ve seen. Rest In Peace.
Lesley, thanks for this song and the many other wonderful songs you gave us. So sad to lose you so soon. But you will always be in our hearts and our play lists. RIP>
I knew she was a great (and very underrated) singer, but never realized what a great live stage performer she was. I did see her live a few times, and she was great, but this whole set is extraordinary....Amazing how she could make it sound as if she was performing these songs for the first time...Plus, continuing to find new nuances and changes each time she sang them. I will really miss her.
We lost a great talent. She brought so much to music and best of all, what a great singer and entertainer. She will never be forgotten and will be forever missed.
I've listened to many versions of this song, by many different artists, some slow, some jazzy, some fall asleep boring, but this is how it NEEDS to be sung, with such emotion and power. shout to be heard. so sad she has passed, a real talent gone. the only good thing about those covers is that it helps people discover Miss Gore's raw talent.
Lesley Gore, my sister Sharon always loved to hear You Don,t Own Me. Maybe now she can hear you again. Sister Sharon, gone but not forgotten since Sept. 2005. Lesley now joins her.
i had never heard of lesley gore or this song until a recent christmas advert on the television the song is so full of emotion and lesley gore is a wonderful woman who has strong voice, amazing thanks,
Holy shit! I've listened to many covers of this song and Lesley just cannot be beaten for the sheer power and emotion she puts in to her original song. My wife sings this a lot...to me :(
❤️Lesley is So Very “In The Zone” in this GREAT Amazing Performance! Her Great Voice Flowing & FREE & Dancing & Bouncing on her Tip Toes & Moving Her Voice & All Her Body to Every Beat & Note FREE with this Great Spot On BAND & SONG! Lesley Owns This! From a Dancer.
How beautiful Lesley Gore was at 18 years old with her stunning and beautiful blue eyes. Incredible his beautiful voice, sweet, warm, sublime, powerful and sharp. Incredible as you go up on each pitch and increase the volume with power. Before she passed away, at 62, she was still beautiful. He sang that song in the same original tone, G minor, his voice was intact, well cared for and healthy, there are very few singers whose voice is already damaged until a certain age. Bless, rest in peace.
there are some mighty strong women who came out of the 1940s to1960s, ask my sisters and me we learned we had the right to be as we wished and that being in a relationship with a man was not the end of our own dreams or our own lives, love is not possession of another human person, true love frees that other person always, right sisters.
just watched her black n white video and time sure does change in the other video she's very conservative and on this one she's showing a bit of skin. love her voice. amazing woman.
Great performance. Her vocal prowess continually improved through the years. And she always tweaked her approach to the songs, keeping it fresh ! What a cool and talented chick !
I have a friend who once said her father told her if she played that song ("It's My Party" and I will cry if I want to) one more time, she would be the one crying. She said she got a good swat when she replied with "You Don't Own Me." Leslie Gore and that friend and I were the same exact age My daughter said that was her song (It's My Party, etc.) and she is only 44. I guess we can all relate to a number of her songs no matter what age we are. Sorry she is gone.
I attended this 1989 concert - it was my 40th birthday present to myself and these videos being back a lot of very happy memories 33 years later. Thank you.
Right On lightsone2. Her sex preference had ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with her ability to sing. People must QUIT talking about some one and who is their choice for a partner. I am straight, but I have friends who are gay and I would not change them for other friends...

Seriously, my Theme Song! I always felt sorry for women who felt they had to live with men who treated them this way. As she said: "I'd never stay!" This song is so powerful. RIP doll.
This old man loved her music and she melted my heart every time I saw her. Damn I miss those days. Wish I had savored them instead of going million miles an hour

"I'm young and I love to be young" "I'm free and I love to be free" is it possible not to cry?
Interesting ... tears started running down my face as I watched and listened to this. I am a 72 year old male and loved this woman.
Oh, so sorry, but u have or will be haved your love and never remembered it, just leave with it)))
no it's impossibile dear friend... I think the same! ❤
Always adored her! She is beautiful & will live forever in all of our hearts! Her singing has brought me to tears!
Lesley, such a charismatic and extremely attractive lady. This song was way ahead of its time.
I agree
What a shit audience
Man if one could live life with the passion and intensity she sings with! She should be in the Rock-and-Roll HOF!
R.E. Lopez Her omission from the Hall Of Fame underscores just how illegitimate the Hall is.
Diane Keaton wants to BE Leslie Gore.
.
for that matter so do I.
.
So. Does Connie Francis
Agree. She should be in HOF. RIP Leslie.
I like the older, raspier, grittier vocals and tone. She’s fantastic!!!
The voice and passion with which she sings, what an amazing lady! RIP
I have 4 daughters, and as a Dad, I try to drill these words into their minds. Guys just think they are dominant, but in fact, they are at best equal.

There aren't many female vocalists around with comparable ability to the great Lesley Gore, and a real charmer as well.
I saw her once in concert at the old Westbury Musing Fair. She was absolutely fantastic.
Oscar Grasser wow
Why isn't she in the R&R Hall of Shame? Way too many great singers ignored by them.
