My favorite thing about all these videos is that he seems so genuinely fascinated and loves all of his gadgets, when most people wouldn't think twice about it. I feel like I need to appreciate little things more. Love these videos.
There's this wonderful man named Tim He gets his joys from toys of all kinds Many of us would like to tell him What a great pleasure he is on our minds We could all benefit in trying to be more like him This wonderful man named Tim Thank you Tim...
I don't know about you, but I love Tim! His voice and vocabulary is just "very nice". He sort of mumbles and obviously shows a passion for toys and antiques. I love you Tim!
Anjew that’s why we are all here. I don’t think any kids watch this channel it’s all adults that like peace and quiet and not someone that’s super charismatic and annoying.
Please, keep doing exactly what you are doing right now, i really enjoy watching every vid of you, and would hate to see anything change, Much love Tim!
For anyone curious about the blocks, first, second, and last number on each vertical tile adds up to 18. With carry over from previous, you get 20 flat every time, so he can just read the third line across the board, as long as he starts with 2 and remembers to subtract 2 from the last column.
I have literally watched, like, 70 episodes of this wonderful man. Everytime I'm watching a UA-cam video, I get a reccomendation for this Grand Illusion channel and wind up watching video after video after video! They're so addicting and entertaining and always puts me in a good mood. Even if I was in a good mood already, it puts me in a better and even HAPPIER mood! Subbed! Keep making these videos!!! 😀😄🤗
Tim always makes me feel so relaxed and cosy. I always feel right at home with his videos and it helps me through tough times. Thank you Tim! I love your work!
Everything he has is a treasure. It'd be hard to collect all that he has nowadays because they don't make toys that way anymore, you'd spend a whole lot of money on the valuable antiques, and a vast majority of his collection is either one-of-a-kind, hasn't been produced in decades, or only a very few were made. His collection belongs in a museum in Tim's honor after his time here with us is over (I wish Tim was immortal) and he goes to Heaven (if you believe in it) and goes to show God his fabulous collection as an angel. The physical collection left here should be preserved, anything broken restored, and continued to be shown to kids just as Tim did in his lifetime. Does Tim have any plan for his collection? Anything?

Calculators brought to mind the gift i'd sent my Dad in Texas, while i was stationed in N.C. back in 1972. He'd only recieved a 6th grade education, but loved with pencil & paper, work out long division problems on the order of up to the millionth's. When i'd called my younger sister a few days later & inquired as to his reaction to it... She said he'd stayed up long after supper checking it against his beloved long division abilities, for accuracy. Then finally around midnite, stopped. She said the next morning at breakfast, he pushed the calculator & 15 or 20 pages of his calculations toward me and declared... That damn thing hasn't made a mistake yet! Blessed Memorial Day to All! What a genuinely delightful story! I need to practice my division... it was always my favourite kind of long sum and extremely satisfying, but I've scarce divided anything without a calculator in years.

@@soldtobediers Ah! Fascinating! The fantastic factors of the number twelve at work once more, by my hasty mental maths. You'll have to trust that I only used google's calculator to check my answers. :D Do you watch Numberphile? I feel that you may enjoy it.
That 3,4,5 ratio is actually really helpful. As a builder we use it alot at work, most recently was today. Easiest way to put big things at right angles.
For the first one, it took me a moment to realize that its one of the things I was obsessed with doing 1st grade up to 5th grade in the back of my workbooks! The reason I love pens over pencils because it never faded from my hand going over it, and I could multiply such large numbers, I'm pretty sure thats how I got the multiples of 7 and 8 down!
I very much enjoy this longer videos. I would not mind 20-30 min long videos. Even if Tim was reading a book or just describing his trips. :) His talking is just so calming. :)
I think Tim is absolutely awesome and I love learning about these neat old things. I can't help but think of Buzz Killington from Family Guy when I watch him though. xP
Holy cow! I was just studying about Ada Lovelace and Charles Babbage! I want to become a programmer in the future so I decided to start looking into the history of programming and one spiderweb of information led to another, and I came across a couple fantastic articles about Ada Lovelace and Charles Babbage. I had this channels videos on auto play with the window minimized while I was reading about them. I happened to hear his mention of Ada and Charles while I was reading and opened the window there I had the video playing to make a double take to make sure I just heard what I heard. Of the many videos this channel has and out of the multitude of other videos that could auto play, it happened to be this one, right when I was reading about her. I'm going crazy right now at this astronomical coincidence.
I remember having one of those slow opening calculators as a kid, and it had a much more complex mechanism that folded out in 3 parts. I remember it having basic programming with a calendar that had an alert of Beethoven's 5th.
Just wanted to point out that Mr Tim made a mistake in his first answer of the four wooden blocks with the numbers. 3:51. The answer he was suppose to give was 28922. I love Mr Tim none the less.
I really hope that you have a “whizz wheel” in your collection. If you don’t know what one is, go and look in a pilot supplies store for a “computer”. There are various versions but most of them will do all manner of calculations, in much the same way as a slide-rule is used. They are used for calculating drift/crab angles and speeds in relation to flight-path and winds, fuel endurance, crosswind components, etc. etc. It takes some practice to learn how to use one effectively but they are immensely useful and fairly quick.
+Guillermo L. Ortiz Toledano I believe on some early calculators if you pressed the equal sign again it would repeat the last operation. So 8 x 11 -5 = 83. I imagine that pressing it once more it would give 8 x 83 - 5 = 659. It would be cool if Tim could confirm this.
What a charming man ! I still use a slide rule today . But the one I use is round . But it does the same thing as the one shown here . I need to do time and distance calculation's and convert from mph to kph . I find that it will give several answers at once. Each side of the number required , which can be very handy . Not like a modern calculator. But as he says , you do have to be careful of the decimal point , specially with large numbers .
Ok i think i got the woodden blocks adding trick: basically the sum of every colon is 2X where x is the third element from the top. So if you want to calculate any sum just say it's 2... and then read the third row, making sure of subtracting the last value by 2 (the unit associated one). Am i right Tim? :)
