I like the ultra light style of camping. It took me from the 50's to the middle 60's to accomplish that but today there is no way I'm going back to heavy packs. I do sections of the F.T. and use a hammock. It's ( the Hammock camping ) is an old habit continuing from the middle 1950's when I traded my tent for a WW 2 Hammock. Using both the UL pack and the hammock I am very comfortable but that is just me. Life is short and sometimes has bumps in it but they make the smooth sections that much better.
Yes. A lot of hikers love hammocks. I've never tried it. Florida would be the perfect place. I hike in a lot of places with no hanging options, but I have thought of carrying one of the super light models as a chair option. Thanks for commenting. Keep Smilin'
Hi! Ok, here are a couple questions for you: have you had a knew replacement? If so, how long did that set you back from hiking? Also wondering what you do about ticks, if anything. Thanks!
No. Still have all my original parts. I spray my clothing with permethrin. Not sure how healthy that is, but it works. Had a couple ticks on my clothes in Florida, but none attached. Keep Smilin'
Enjoy your channel! I will be 74 in July and also have a white (mostly) beard. Plan to celebrate with solo Co hike of Collegiate Loop. Love my Kakawa 40 pack and xmid tent. Like you not a big fan of pills and am pretty healthy thanks to hiking and better diet.
Both I guess. I don't mind getting a room on occasion, but only if I need to regroup, cleanup, need longterm wifi. Many of those things you can find at a commercial campground for a fraction of the cost. I would never get a room for a bed, my tent and sleeping gear is way more comfortable and quiet. Best time for a room is when your wet & cold for a long period and you need to thaw out. Keep Smilin'
in full agreement! I haven’t seen a doc in 12 years and I am healthier now than 16 years ago. Keep moving and eat the right foods for your body, it usually involves little sugar and much less garbage carbs found in the nutrition pyramid!
Fun fact - that toothbrush you got from GGG is a standard prison issue brush. It’s difficult to make a usable shank out of it.
My condolences to you and your family. Hope to see you back out on the trail soon.
Be safe and be well
Thanks

Life is like a roll of toilet paper. It goes faster the closer you are to the end.
What's the total pack weight you carry a on your daily 4 mile hikes?
I carry what I would usually take on a thru hike. About 24 to 26 pounds. Keep Smilin'

You seem like you'd rather sleep in your tent than stay at a hostel...is that because you are frugal or because the tent is more comfortable for you?

Everything in moderation. The food chain is a tough place to navigate. Move it or lose it. Keep Smilin'
