Mad Anthony no doubt got the idea of a night time bayonet charge from watching his troops getting slaughtered 2 yrs earlier at Paoli, Pittsburgh rope maker Mary Pattison Irwin’s husband John was among those horribly wounded by British sabers, in fact he’d been left for dead on the field. The morning after the battle revolutionaries found him & took him to one of G Washington’s field hospitals
