Digital media takes the fun away from having something physically in your hands. It was half the fun buying physical media like games, just holding it it's kinda magical
I prefer all physical yes I get digital too occasionally but physical should always be the primary way of getting games and digital should only stay as an option the way it always was, we even have reproduction games still being made and I’m all in for it too I even have some repros myself, physical must stay alive
I can see that happening I was at Walmart yesterday and they are having a huge sale on games and seem less and less of physical games was even told they are going to start with digital cards
@shanenice5380 they are the worst when it comes to used game prices. There's been a meme about gamestop and used games for years now. Basically the used copy is $5 less or more then new. Plus they sell open games as new and try charging people without their knowledge the $5 game replacement warranty. I stopped going there years ago because of how shady they are.
Yeah every Target I go to has most of the games out of stock. Been like that for a long time. However I think the stores will still carry physical games until they are no longer produced.
Online gaming has destroyed the video game industry as we knew it. From diminishing physical releases, incomplete broken games being released that need downloads, pay to play, etc. Modern gen gaming is Dead to me. Just my opinion.
Could be that they don’t keep the area stocked because people either buy online and have it shipped or buy online and pick it up in store. Now a days I know what game I want before it even comes out and I have already purchased it on Amazon and have it shipped on release day.
I use Amazon, but that's because physical selection has been dwindling over the years and most of the games I like are smaller AA games which stores rarely carry anymore.
In Japan physical media is still strong when I went to Japan they have so much games and anime in stock and physical visual novel for pc and soundtracks but in the west I don't know since I watched this video and haven't been in a store in a long time for physical games I've been mostly buying my physical games online
The one thing I don’t get about target is they usually end up having a bunch of extra games on the endcap with no rhyme or reason to them. Why not put them with the rest of the games on the displays so they kind of fill out the space and make it look more presentable? Even if there’s only one or two of them, at least you can just put them in displays with the rest of the games for that console and it makes the store look like it has more to offer.
It's the same thing that's been happening with physical media, in general. Not just games, but obviously, DVDs and blu rays. Look what Best Buy and now Target is doing with their physical media in-stores.... either downgrading, or completely, getting rid of them. The Best Buy and Targets that I go to ALL have downgraded their videogame sections. It's a trend that's been happening, for a while and surprisingly, Walmart seems to be the only department store that continues to stock its movies and games (depending on the store). Honestly, your best bet with physical media games going forward, besides Walmart (and if you really need to, Gamestop) is to support the local retro games stores, thrift shops and pawn shops. Even, Half Price Books. Physical media is obviously, on the decline, due to digital, so everyone who loves physical media needs to go out and support it as much as possible. Sadly, as you mentioned, many game discs just download from the Internet, so buying future game discs may seem, irrelevant.
Sadly I buy most of my physical media for my switch on amazon... simply because it's cheaper & easier to find niche titles. I usually go to gamestop now for their 4 for $40, 4 for $20, or 4 for $10. That with the pro membership helps saves me quite a bit when I'm actually able to find 4 games though at one location. I've recently started shopping at my local second hand shops for blu-rays, but even their mainstream game selection is eh... I went to a smaller second hand shop and managed to find some niche titles... I've never seen before.
It's definitely hurting the stores and the studio's that make the games, ever since things have become digital, people just don't want to go buy the physical copies of the games/dvd's
The comeback has already begun slowly in the secondary market. When we get closer to 2030 the comeback will be even stronger. Wait till folks learn the downside to digital only not just the benefits. Folks need to start voting with their wallets. I even see physical will still be a thing but it will become a specialized market when everything goes digital. Nintendo will be the last one to go digital. All. Nintendo has to do is cut the price on digital keep the physical price the same there is your win.
You are wrong. Sony and Microsoft are trash consoles. Nintendo is the only console selling software. No one needs better game graphics. The focus of PS and XBox is off base. Online multiplayer scam kids for skins and shoot and kill realistic looking stuff ain’t it. People want physical, just not what Sony and Microsoft have to offer.
Physical ownership is the primary advantage consoles have over PCs. If anything, Sony and Nintendo should be launching aggressive advertisement campaigns to play up this strength.
Your looking at one store I go to every store and no physical is staying you will find some stores that doesn’t have so many games doesn’t cary to many titles it doesn’t mean every store is the same
I think you might be correct. Give it 1 more generation and I think we are heading down a digital route. It makes sense as it costs companies less money in terms of getting the game shipped.
I have a friend who works at Wal-Mart, they said that they are moving towards no longer selling XBOX physical games in the future - they will be digital cards only. XBOX is moving away from physical media. Nintendo and Sony are still going to be producing physical media into the next generation. However, time will tell.... -- Best Buy and Target are both not really embracing physical media (even on the movie side, as Best Buy has taken away movies altogether) - Wal-Mart currently is the only one really embracing physical media. I think XBOX sales will tank once physical media goes away for them. You will also see price increases for buying physical XBOX games/price gouging in the resell market. The problem with an all digital age is .. if they ever decide to remove from the market, the game/movie is gone forever - unless you have the physical copy. I think there will be push-back from us consumers when it comes to this. Example, look what happened with Spec Ops the Line recently - it was removed from all digital markets, which made the physical copy shoot from 12-$13 up to $30-35 now. I personally am not looking forward to all digital age, I dont buy digital now unless I have no other choice, example: Alan Wake 2
Walmart online and Amazon both sell lots of physical discs , cartridges and bluray movies. I can get any old classic movie I love from the 80s and 90s not on Netflix, Prime video etc to buy on both of these websites. My son got his Nintendo Switch in Christmas 2020 and I was able to buy early titles on cartridges such as Sonic Mania, Super Mario bros U deluxe, Super Mario Odyssey etc on both Amazon and Walmart online.

A lot of people have stopped buying them simple as that really. I understand there is more of a physical connection to physical games that isn't there otherwise. I started a collection late 2000's with some of my favorite games but I realized I rarely play them. I feel that a lot of people just don't have the space though, that's another factor, not having to worry about them taking up space. Add in the people who prefer subscriptions/streaming and just want to have access to their games wherever they go. I have friends who've been gaming for a long time who haven't bought a physical game in years. Plus, needing an internet connection to download and play physical games anyway kind of makes it pointless. The reality is for most people, especially the younger generation they just do not care.
Disc games at Walmart are so expensive and I wait for the price to go down and Amazon has reasonable prices if you’re wonder what’s there deal some people buy on Amazon these times that’s where some of the disc users get there games like me
Son. If you are gonna buy video game disc or cartridges, they are much cheaper on Walmart online and Amazon. In store is always way more expensive. You literally have more variety on Walmart online and Amazon.
Truth be told people can’t afford expensive games these times anymore and when it goes all digital there will be bunch of people on Amazon eBay or people can tell where else is there any other online store who have disc games

They don't even have the $5 bens no more after the new remodel. And best buy has quit selling dvds and blu rays altogether. That was the only reason i even went there was for the movies.
