It's a pretty rare song, there's only 1 way to listen to it - on "Sweet Alice" and "Treehouse Tapes" demos. There are no recordings of live version or any EP versions.
I'm so glad there's still people out there who appreciate good fucking music. As far as I'm concerned I could only listen to AiC for the rest of my life. Even some fans might not like some of their songs, but they'd still agree that it's honest, well made music.
When I got hooked on AiC over a year ago, I've been chemically addicted to them since (ayyy). I sometimes feel like my musical taste has stagnated a little since then, because I listen to AiC literally every single day, when I could be discovering a shit ton of new bands. But hey, as far as I'm concerned, we like what we like.
Joseph McDermott i got the bug of Metallica to ride the 💡 but then suicide tendencies slayer pantara ya AIC for life. ive always wanted to go to Australia the babe's like so cal dudes bro.how do i get a passport?:))))))
SSZaris It's brutally honest and no bands these day would have the balls to write a song like Junkhead for example. They would get destroyed by the media for one and the pussy record label guys wouldn't let the song get passed the demo phase. I honestly think that the A&R men of the early 90s were much more ballsy and open minded than they are now. This song is super fucking funky btw. They should have tweaked it a bit and release it
There isn't one AIC song I haven't become completely beguiled by I've been listening to them compulsively since the mid-nineties, and they only get better and better and better And Mad Season -- absolute genius. Layne's voice is like no other's. Just such sick magic.
Jennifer Majewski your so right and its like mini epic peices of modern art. All wrapped up in a warm blanket of tasty riffs and emotional insecurities of youth
It for sure was absolutely intentional as the lyrics didn't age in any way well at all for Layne (R.I.P); otherwise, they undoubtedly would have even recorded it again.
im proud of the ones who got help and delt wit addiction, and for the ones who havent, hold on and please get help. If anything laynes death taught me was that time really is short and you need to live it as so.
the lyrics of a young layne staley! this was how they were living at the time, young, wild, carefree, creating music....And, just look at the awesome legacy of music he left for us all! great song, thanks ♫
I wish I could have too. I've seen them live twice more recently though and they still blew my mind... ALice in chains is still graced by layne's legendary legacy man...keep rockin this shit
@RamonesSkater4life i agree. everyone makes mistakes, so did Layne. but i will never judge him for his actions, the inspiration and the impact he had on me can never be changed. thank you Layne
Ok. I must be bored to bite at your line especially since everyone else has completely ignored your comment here. So no one wants to be the one to correct the errors in this statement?
mostly true. some people ive known though can do heroin for a week straight stop not be addicted and easily stay off it for a while. other people have a hard time stopping after two days..
@Jozsus I seen them too with Will and thought they were fucking epic. I honestly cried tears of joy seeing them has always been a dream come true and they fact that they played all there old shit was epic
Wow....this is like a meld of that old, pre-Facelift AIC and what became of them.... Verses are totally old school AIC while the choruses have that killer AIC harmony work!
actually Layne was dead for FOURTEEN days before he was found. Don't want to be creepy but he was already decomposing. How scary for his Mom to find him like that.
+BDP - Actually, Layne's accountants were concerned when there was no activity on Layne's bank account for 2-weeks and alerted Nancy so she could be assisted when conducting a Wellness Check at Layne's Condo.
I looked on a few sites for the lyrics and the lines "Living my life in the box, or sleepin in the trash" sounds to me like " Living my life in the bottle, sleepin in the trash".
i broke my thumb and had day surgery, they hook you up on something similar and your out of this world i mean there cutting you open and your awake but your so high you can't feel it, i do'nt think i would make it a habbit or life style PEACE.
From watching PJ20, Andrew Wood didn't die immediately from overdosing on heroin. The bandmembers from Mother Love Bone, family, and friends actually had the chance to at least say goodbye to the shell of his former self, as it took him a day after being hospitalized to pass away. Cornell and Ament said that he just looked so messed-up, and it's probably from that traumatic event that if they were into the stuff, they weren't doing it again.
i fucked up. found this and a few other demos on a circus magazine version of their unplugged that was sitting used in a cd warehouse (back when that existed). i guess i was 17 when i found it. somewhere in between moves i misplaced it and a couple other rare recordings. that shit was probably worth some dough. i'm with whoever doesn't want to buy the box set; i'm pissed this band reformed. jerry cantrell's solo work is amazing. i wish he'd stick to it, and the AIC legacy remain as is..LEGENDARY
i have to agree with broke down palace. ive read nancy (laynes mom) was concerned that no money had been withdrawn from laynes account for like 2 weeks or something. givin that she was his mother, im sure she knew of his habits. she was concerned and called seattle pd to check on him. and they found him ....well he had passed on when they found him. if anyone out there who reads this, and was close to the family, had different or more accurate info, id love to hear it. im just passing on what ive read.
In an interview on VH1's Celebrity Rehab with McCallum, former Alice in Chains bass player Mike Starr said that he spent time with Staley the day before he died as Starr's birthday was April 4. Starr claimed that Staley was very sick but would not call 911. The two ex-bandmates briefly argued, which ended with Starr storming out. Starr stated that Staley called after him as he left: "Not like this, don't leave like this". en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Layne_Staley :( After reading all of what and how he died I got a Layne Staley portrait tattoo...
I know plenty people that use in moderation. And they even shoot it up. You just have to respect yourself and the drug. But sadly, I know more people that can't seem to control themselves than those that do.
evilinvader85 doing junk is fucked, you cant take that shit shit in moderation, sooner or later it consumes anyone who touches it, speaking from experience
@jimmyshitbags sad but true :(. i gave into pure pressure back in my sublime cover band and started trying cocaine. 2 years later of not touching anything but the drink and weed i still have the craving for something stronger. i only coked up a few times it sucks :(
High school memories man I was the only black dude I knew that liked this kind of music so I kept it a secret
Quaba El RE dude you have an excellent taste in music
Im sure there were many others like you. I notice theres a lot of black aic fans. Im puerto rican and this my fave band
lol
брат, у нас в России тебе бы не пришлось скрывать свои чувства. Здесь нет расизма
Андрей Мятухин
agreed
I remember seeing an interview where Jerry said this was the song where they found out their identity and where they wanted to go with the band.
Yep. It's surprising this one didn't make the cut onto Facelift.
It's a pretty rare song, there's only 1 way to listen to it - on "Sweet Alice" and "Treehouse Tapes" demos. There are no recordings of live version or any EP versions.
Blader just bought a copy of Sweet Alice for $48
+Poke.Deathtrip Do you live in Australia?
Yeah this one here!
ua-cam.com/video/JJpJJHX81hk/v-deo.html
The harmonies on this are insane.
I'm so glad there's still people out there who appreciate good fucking music. As far as I'm concerned I could only listen to AiC for the rest of my life. Even some fans might not like some of their songs, but they'd still agree that it's honest, well made music.
+SSZaris agreed and at least i never met someone who HATE alice in chains, at max doesn't like much but never hate
When I got hooked on AiC over a year ago, I've been chemically addicted to them since (ayyy). I sometimes feel like my musical taste has stagnated a little since then, because I listen to AiC literally every single day, when I could be discovering a shit ton of new bands. Fuck everything. AIC is all I need

Jennifer Majewski your so right and its like mini epic peices of modern art. All wrapped up in a warm blanket of tasty riffs and emotional insecurities of youth
And Jerry's voice too! Goes perfectly with Layne :)
So true man
Wow what a badass song! It's too bad this song didn't end up on Music Bank along with the other demos.
It for sure was absolutely intentional as the lyrics didn't age in any way well at all for Layne (R.I.P); otherwise, they undoubtedly would have even recorded it again.
To everyone asking, this song can be found on the bootleg album "Sweet Alice" containing early AIC demos. Source: Wikipedia (yeah I know).
Also "Seattle Scruffs Demos" if you're lucky enough to find it. It's got MLB, SG and AIC.
That solo is amazing. One of his best IMO.
"I don't know much about heroin, but I wanna try..." OOPS!
The soul of the Layne.
Wow he had so much power in his voice way back when.
NOW JERRY DO ME LIKE THIS
Cantrell rips every solo and always will. He inspired me to pick up a geet
i like how hes like "now jerry do me like this" before the solo
Sounds like Glam Metal and Grunge at the same time.
Silverchair ;)
@@shegotbettermorale8598 for SURE 👍
this song was first on the Treehouse Demos, but this version is from Sweet Alice
im proud of the ones who got help and delt wit addiction, and for the ones who havent, hold on and please get help. If anything laynes death taught me was that time really is short and you need to live it as so.
I fucking love this song! Needs more recognition!!
Never done H obviously. It just takes one time. All wish they never started
the lyrics of a young layne staley! this was how they were living at the time, young, wild, carefree, creating music....And, just look at the awesome legacy of music he left for us all!
great song, thanks ♫
Actually Jerry was the primary songwriter, while yes Layne was a great songwriter their hits were primarily written by Jerry.
The lyrics were written by Jerry Cantrell
one of the best freaking bands
grew up in seattle (tacoma specifically) and moved to san diego and still listening to my childhood and hometown band :,)
Weed is my music and drug is my Alice in Chains.
I want to try just about everything once before I die.... I just don't want to die young....
my magic song to put when your on those substances
One of my all time favorite solos.
AIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wish I could've seen them in Concert, When Layne was alive. rest in Peace.
Yes, this song was made a bt before Facelift, but not too long before. This was a little after their Glam stage and before their Facelift stage.
Harmony gets me so high
I know, I have all their music. I was talking about the Heroin bootleg CD in 1995.
Forget beer, weed or any other drug for that matter. Music is my drug.
3:29 NOW JERRY DO MEH LIKE THIS!!!
thanks for posting all this
Never heard this thanks for the post man!
I have a musical addiction!
Actually Layne died from a heroin, and cocaine speedball. And he was dead in his apartment for at least 4 days before they found him.
Ok. I must be bored to bite at your line especially since everyone else has completely ignored your comment here. So no one wants to be the one to correct the errors in this statement?
That guitar solo tho
I love this song
mostly true. some people ive known though can do heroin for a week straight stop not be addicted and easily stay off it for a while. other people have a hard time stopping after two days..
@Jozsus I seen them too with Will and thought they were fucking epic. I honestly cried tears of joy seeing them has always been a dream come true and they fact that they played all there old shit was epic
It was in this song that Alice found themselves. R.I.P Layne
Why was a remastered version never added to music bank?
Wow....this is like a meld of that old, pre-Facelift AIC and what became of them....
Verses are totally old school AIC while the choruses have that killer AIC harmony work!
Awesome song.Shoulda been a hit
actually Layne was dead for FOURTEEN days before he was found. Don't want to be creepy but he was already decomposing. How scary for his Mom to find him like that.
his mom didnt find him, she called the police and they kicked his door in
+BDP - Actually, Layne's accountants were concerned when there was no activity on Layne's bank account for 2-weeks and alerted Nancy so she could be assisted when conducting a Wellness Check at Layne's Condo.
I looked on a few sites for the lyrics and the lines "Living my life in the box, or sleepin in the trash" sounds to me like " Living my life in the bottle, sleepin in the trash".
Layne & Mike reunited - RIP.
@bflorence2 Layne said that drugs worked for him for while, that's not the problem. It's when they stop.
Never been big on this band, but love this track.
i broke my thumb and had day surgery, they hook you up on something similar and your out of this world i mean there cutting you open and your awake but your so high you can't feel it, i do'nt think i would make it a habbit or life style PEACE.
@Benmeister233 dude there's a thing called youtube converter and it's free we don't live in the 90's anymore man.

True.

🎸🤙🏻
That solo is from the book of Pat Travers
@Theonlyk9man good shit bro
@RamonesSkater4life
I know right? You could probably even use Your Decision as a response to this song, as weird as that may sound.
@eedvard me too I love opiates and everything that comes with it, even though the sickness is beyond hell, but it's fucking bliss
@italianking29 Right on where did you see these bad mofo's at?

i have to agree with broke down palace. ive read nancy (laynes mom) was concerned that no money had been withdrawn from laynes account for like 2 weeks or something. givin that she was his mother, im sure she knew of his habits. she was concerned and called seattle pd to check on him. and they found him ....well he had passed on when they found him. if anyone out there who reads this, and was close to the family, had different or more accurate info, id love to hear it. im just passing on what ive read.
+michael loyd A bank employee called the family that no money was withdrawn for 2 weeks.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Layne_Staley :(
After reading all of what and how he died I got a Layne Staley portrait tattoo...
I agree the demo version of We Die Young rocks.
what album is this song off of
damn right man ...me too hehe^^
is this on any album? I looked for it on the music bank album and a few other of their compilation/early albums and can't seem to find it anywhere
demo i think
"Heroin" demo...before Facelift
We Die Young B-side I think.
Yeah, but the songs weren't put together as a compilation on a CD until '95.
" Let it burn ... " Sounding
@Ricky4395 oh it might have idk
I know plenty people that use in moderation. And they even shoot it up. You just have to respect yourself and the drug. But sadly, I know more people that can't seem to control themselves than those that do.
evilinvader85 doing junk is fucked, you cant take that shit shit in moderation, sooner or later it consumes anyone who touches it, speaking from experience
Anyone who says they do opiates in moderation is full of shit or it’s just a matter of time until they do it everyday. Been on subs 10 years.
totally does dude
@jimmyshitbags sad but true :(. i gave into pure pressure back in my sublime cover band and started trying cocaine. 2 years later of not touching anything but the drink and weed i still have the craving for something stronger. i only coked up a few times it sucks :(
im guessing this was before facelift...
what album is this from????
If you want to get that technical there's chemicals in everything... so
reminds me alot of my Michelle by guns and roses
Whan album is this song off of?
It's from their demo, Heroin. I've been trying to find it myself but I can't. Maybe you'll have better luck than me though.
And "Sweet Alice", the best demo they produced in my opinion.
And on the topic of Sweet Alice - it's easy to download, as it was sold in Aussie for a while.
