Your last thoughts are absolutle true... Filmaking it's cheaper and affordable than ever... It's just sometimes difficult to access to good gear in some places of the world, I live in Ecuador, and access to: for example an Aputure's 300D II if You Buy it here, it's arround 1700$ us dollars, (close to the cost of the 600D) and the mounts of money that we manage in Ecuador are just unfair to pay... I dream to someday could Say the same words You Say now and also say: "how affordable to all places of world it's filmaking now"
Always loving your work!
Wow, Australia used to be like that when our dollar was worth only .5 USD.
Toda latinoamerica es así con los impuestos tercermundistas
Thank you for reviewing these cheaper lights as well! That's great! 👍
It is so true that the technology in lighting has come a long way with LED. It is very exciting times and your passion for the subject always shines through in the videos. Thanks for making them.
You should take a look at the ifootage Anglerfish 320dn. A 5600k light with the highest TM-30(97) and SSI(84) scores I've ever seen for a Daylight LED and it's just $650 USD. They don't use the typical 450nm blue pump like most LEDS, so there is no big blue spike at 450nm, allowing the spectrum to look much closer to true Daylight. The light has some drawbacks though, the dmx requires a special cable, the ballast lacks a clamp, build quality doesn't seem to be that high.... etc. But it seems to be the first big advancement in daylight led color quality in years.
It looks like a phosphor over ultraviolet, similar to the blue leds on the RGBW Fiilex Q5. But I'm just guessing that by looking at the spectrum distribution graphs so I could be wrong.
Trade off with that is longevity of the LEDs and power efficiency which is why people like Aputure have not gone down that road.
@@gaffergear very interesting insight, thanks!
Thanks for looking at some of the cheaper lights too, I'd still love to see reviews of the crap units so we know what to stay away from, or at least their objective limits. A lot of other reviewers don't have the expertise to tell what's bad about them.
I wonder if just a list of ‘lights to avoid’ would be enough? Seems like a bit of waste of time to do a full review of a light if it’s not really up to scratch.
@@cagf2013 for the most part the cheaper it is the more popular it is in sale volume, and beginners are always searching for reputable content for their purchases, I feel like the increased reach of cheaper/crap light content would probably pay for itself
And it's not like cheapo lights don't have uses, even if they're poor quality it's always good to know the technical limitations and WHY it's bad, it gives people a point of comparison, helps them see what they're looking for in a good light by seeing the negatives of something worse.
It's one thing to know "product x good, product y bad" but it's way more helpful long term to know "product y has good light output but its colour shifts with output level way too much" or even "y has fine light quality, its app sucks and its mount is weak"
Even shorter individual videos on bad lights would be super helpful, tell people WHY they shouldn't be buying the Amazon Special RGB panel, or why the cheapest c stand on amazon sucks compared to a matthews or kupo, so people can make better choices on their own
Nice to hear your advice at the end! We the "new gaffers, filmmakers" ... complain for everything! haha
Will you be doing a review for the updated luxli timpani ii?
Only if they send me something
Heya! Have you thought about looking at the sumolaser from sumolight?
If they send me one, or they have a distributor in Melbourne. It seems a very interesting light
shot in the dark but can you point me in the direction of best place to find info on vintage mole Richardson lights, I have a type 599 manufactured in UK) has no lamp and have no idea of the watt and type of lamp, I have searched everywhere and can't find. Apparently Mole USA never manufactured these so have no info... UK only
No idea unfortunately
Hi master of the lights...
I am looking for similar light like dedo 12V
in led with Bluetooth ?
Godox and Aputure have 60s that are very similar. But they run from 14.4v
@@gaffergear thank you very much.
It's very helpful for me.
that looks like the reused the body and yoke from a godox light
