Ultimately kinda crazy how most of this "weird" and "off-putting" things from old UA-cam were either just elaborate shitposts or someone's (in hindsight )genuinely interesting art project
They still post to this day, I think Life of Luxery(Name of the channel) has a video where they use one of those dolphin masks that they still up but idk
In a weirdly wholesome sense, the "weird side of youtube" is the eternal constant that will always be here regardless of all the site changes and how dramatically the demographic has shifted. Doesn't matter what how old you are or when you started using youtube frequently, stumbling onto insanely weird shit is just a fact of youtube that's not going away anytime soon haha
I pretty much grew up on the weird side of UA-cam and it’s nice seeing a video basically be a tribute to the many strange things users on this site have to offer. Been a dumpster diver for as long as I can remember. I rarely see others who get into this kind of topic really look into the channels behind the videos, so huge kudos for you for looking a little deeper. MadCatLady is forever one of my favorites, probably one of my first introductions to outsider art. She honestly deserved better, considering that she must’ve gotten a lot of trash just for expressing her stuff. As an artist myself, I really cherish her for being herself. Looking forward to more Dumpster Dive stuff from you.
Actually... the name of the song is Afx237.v7 by Aphex Twin which was used in Chris Cunningham's Rubber Johnny film. Hate to be that guy but I'd rather give the right information. :)
Man, now I wish there was a way for people to band together and genuinely tell MadCatLady how delightful her animations are u_u I love that there are people in this world that make art that's charming and strange like that, and they always make me want to keep making art too
This was such a comfort video since it reminded me of my college days. Since I attended an art university, Id always see demo reels of students play on these monitors in the animation department. Coincidentally, I worked on a stop motion music video for Green Day's Homecoming back in 2004. I know the struggle and exhaustion of working on these mixed media type films so it really resonated with me.
I’ve started to notice images/videos having to do with the uncanny valley will originally creep me out, then become more funny/silly after a certain amount of time. Does this happen to anybody else?
Yo Dylan. I've got a playlist on my channel called Remnants of a Bygone Era. Its mainly all videos pulled from the watch history of my old account, which is ~15 years old. I stopped using it in ~2015 or 2016. I'd love it if you did a deep dive into some of these videos!
PS. I plan to keep the playlist growing... I'm working with some friends I've known for a long time who also have old youtube accounts, they're giving me their old watch history/favorites information lol.
Am I alone in thinking its kinda cool that the animal mask guy is back? I know the old videos were very off putting but the masks fascinate me. They almost look like making the old cartoon animals real? Say example the last dog one there could be right out of Tom n Jerry or like Who framed Roger Rabbit.
To be honest, I don't find them that offputting. A little weird, sure, but that's just kind of how big practical prosthetics are. The talent blows my mind, though. I mean, he can speak so clearly and the months articulate and everything! It's movie-quality. But I also have a big interest in practical effects, so maybe I'm just blind to the creepy
yeah the dude's increadibly talented and versatile with what he does, if I wanted to make like, an Elder Scrolls fanfilm or something I'd absolutely try to hire the guy for a kahjiit or argonian prosthetic, they move so naturally with the face
4:35 the audio and beat that is played from here on to the moth video reminded me of the music in another weird UA-cam video called “Rubber Johnny” I think. It’s a very weird, uncanny, experimental music video, and it’s honestly pretty cool
Yup. It is. That whole audio is the same one used for the video ‘Rubber Johnny’ it’s a very creepy uncanny video, that also looks really cool. Definitely would consider it part of the ‘weird side of UA-cam’
Random videos with almost no views appear all the time on my feed. Unfortunately most of them are fetish videos, compilations of characters farting and stuff, one of them I found a channel that was just someone requesting fursuits of furry characters, just a video with the picture of the character and the title requesting a suit. Apart from that I also found a channel once that was just a guy editing videos to make it seem like he’s having a conversation with monika from ddlc, the editing wasn’t so bad tbh he would put text on the screen and then monikas text box would have an answer along with her expression changing.
I can definitely relate to that feeling of being young and stumbling across something that you felt like you shouldn’t have, like you entered a space that’s so scared you but also intrigues you in the same way. Honestly in some ways I kind of miss that part of my childhood, things just felt a lot bigger when you were a kid, in a way that it doesn’t have now.
This honestly has nothing to do with anything, but your voice is so very close to what I hear for Stebbins when I read Stephen King's 'The Long Walk' and it makes me happy
Be honest, let me hear your war cry video. I never found scary. I always just laughed. I mean the sounds are a little bit creepy, but like the faces made it not creepy for me.
This dumpster dive was a pretty cool throwback. Some of these vids were featured on your UA-cam iceberg, which was the first thing I saw from you. Quite nostalgic tbh
Also I actually wanted to make fanart too for a bit but i'm terrified you'll dislike my new style since it's become more sketchy, zany and experimental, with as much restraint on color as the 2000's. Maybe I should just do it anyway but i dunno lol.
Im glad someone actually covered the creature video, dispite the fact that i could even watch half of that segment because it still freaks me out really bad, its nice to know theres a well meaning artist behind something that has disturbed me for so long as well as people who care enough to legitimately dive into the creator rather than hust saying ''this is a video that exists''
madcatlady is a TRUE artist in the sense that the negative comments are clearly getting to her and yet she isn't letting them stop her from creating. That's just very real to me and I wholeheartedly support whatever the fuck it is she's doing!
@@pig3292 it's not, it's a company called KMeffects. They're actually pretty big in Hollywood apparently! Their current website is under construction, but they have an extensive backlog of work
Love this series. If you end up doing a followup, or doing one focused on YTPs or something, highly recommend 'oiramapap' (assuming you haven't covered her already), some of her vids are hilarious (The Suck Dong), others are creepy imo (This is Your Brain on Drugs), and some have both funny and creepy elements (Ernie and Cookie Mourn My Loss). Had a channel before that called 'igiulamam' that got copyrighted to death, has a music channel 'vellidragon', and has not made a YTP since like 2011. Still active on twitter as Tammy Spahn and has done art stuff as Velli Dragon on deviantart. Also her channel description is uhh...something...its very goofy, lol

The dolphin muzzle guy seems genuinely so nice.
They still post to this day, I think Life of Luxery(Name of the channel) has a video where they use one of those dolphin masks that they still up but idk
fr. And his work looks genuinely good when it's properly lit and you can actually hear his video.
The creator of Yelling Thing just being some laid back dude makes it even more lovable.

Pixel vs Pencil's message of combining traditional and modern design philosophies to create something that surpasses both is genuinely great.
Yeah I completely agree.
Plz make a part two!! I don't see enough UA-camrs going through the weird side of UA-cam

The music in the moth clip is by Aphex Twin. Its called Rubber Johnny.
I knew I recognized it, shot very similarly to the video too
The dolphin thing literally traumatized me as a kid
