I hope mclaren gives Palou at least a f1 test so they can compare times with herta and daniel. i think he deserves an f1 test as indy champion.

    IF Ganassi has a water tight deal, then as childish as this all sounds, they really don’t need Palou’s approval for anything. Ganassi holds ALL of the cards. Period. However, water tight deal or not, IF Zak Brown has enough money, Palou will be at McLaren next year. If he does not, or wishes not to spend it, Palou will be at Ganassi (or somewhere) looking like a fool.

      @@wingracer1614 no it does not. If you sign a contract with an option agreed to by both parties and signed by both parties then that contract and option stands. If you are employed by an employer, you cannot just sign another contract with another employer because the job title changes. Alex Palou could have left to to be a professional soccer player, but he would have a contractual obligation to his current employer who has a legal right to retain the services of Alex Palou as an employee and race car driver. The fact is, Alex Palou and his management team have tried to play both sides and handled it poorly. If Alex Palou wanted to leave CGR to take up another employment offer, then he would have had a cut off period to inform his current employer of looking elsewhere for employment. If Alex Palou and his management team had followed that process, mediation and negotiations would have taken place to buy out that option and compensation for the remaining terms of the employment contract. Chip Ganassi seems to have not been told officially that Alex Palou was looking elsewhere and it seems McLaren have been left in the dark around Alex Palou and his current contractual obligations to CGR. The statement made by Alex Palou doesn't make sense and looks like it's a knee jerk reaction to being found out as not being honest and acting in bad faith with his current employer and another interested party. The fact McLaren haven't released additional statements to support Alex Palou signing is damning for Alex Palou and his management team. McLaren are rightly staying clear of this situation, as its clearly an employment issue between CGR as the employer and Alex Palou the employee. Alex Palou and his management team created this problem and have no one else to blame..This situation is a classic case of someone not being honest and upfront with both CGR and McLaren in relation to their current employment situation. I would not be surprised if McLaren take legal action against Alex Palou and his management team or tear up the agreement they claim to have with Alex Palou. There is one thing you do not do during employment negotiations. Thats act in bad faith that places all parties at risk and open to liability. let alone the embarrassment of having these issues handled openly in public. Both McLaren and CGR don't handle their business affairs in that manner..

    Ganassi just exercised their option in Palou’s current contract for the 2023 drive so that for him to move to another team, in this case Mclaren, the other team would have to pay out Ganassi for his contract or they keep Palou. Ganassi are just playing the contract game and win either the money from Palou’s contract or Palou for 2023, however, seeing that Mclaren and Zach Brown have cash to play with, I expect that they will pay out Palou’s contract.

    What is it with Ganassi and being associated with a complete clusterfuck of a situation every two years.

  • @OldStreetDoc
    @OldStreetDoc 2 роки тому

    Ganassi isn’t the one who embarrassed themselves. That credit goes to Palou. Who… Chip Ganassi has the option to have in the #10 car for 2023, and who apparently has exercised it. If Palou signed with McLaren, he MAY have breeched his contract.
    It may come down to just how MUCH Zac Brown wants to make the check out for to Chip Ganassi. If I were Chip, I’d send Alex Palou home for 2023. Pay him his contracted salary, and not allow him to either race or speak publicly about Chip Ganassi Racing. When you sign a contract, you are committed. You’re especially committed to NOT ‘sign’ a competing contract with another team. This is simple.

    • @valerierodger7700
      @valerierodger7700 2 роки тому

      Ganassi absolutely embarrassed themselves by issuing a press release about Palou that he didn't approve and including a quote that he didn't give.
      And contracts are not simple. In fact, contracts are quite complicated. A lot of this is going to come down to the specific wording of the contract, particularly the conditions of any extension. The fact that Palou, his management, and McLaren all believed that he was able to sign with McLaren indicates that if ganasi does have a legitimate competing claim for him, it is far from simple

    • @OldStreetDoc
      @OldStreetDoc 2 роки тому +1

      @@valerierodger7700 Race teams issuing quotes from their driver, that aren’t actually ‘from their driver’ is one of the most common things teams do. I’m not defending that, because I think it’s sketchy as hell, but I can’t ignore that. Their PR staff do it constantly.
      I never said that these contracts are simple. The ‘principle’ is simple. When you’re under contract with a team you cannot just go sign with another team. Contracts are all going to be different in that they’re tailored for the parties involved, but one thing that seems common among driver contracts is that for the contracted period (including any option periods either side may have) a driver can’t sign a deal with a competing team unless & until both sides agree to it. If Ganassi had communicated that the team would NOT exercise their option for ‘23, Palou would likely had been free to do this. But it seems Ganassi had not done that, and in fact it seems they did the opposite - meaning Palou would be contracted until whatever timeframe or circumstance the option covered had passed.
      I can imagine all manner of reasons Palou might want to move to McLaren. All valid… the biggest being that he could end up in Formula 1. But unless Zac Brown wants to cut a VERY LARGE check to Ganassi Racing in order to squash this, I’m afraid that Palou may have killed that opportunity. Whether he was right in doing this or wrong, every team in motorsport took note, and when a driver gets labeled it’s permanent. He’s a very talented young man, who possibly made a decision that’s going to hound him.

    The move makes no sense, it would be like Max deciding to leave Red Bull for McLaren next season to put it in F1 context, F1 has to be being dangled like a carrot at Palou because the move makes no sense otherwise. The only team most drivers would consider leaving Ganassi for is Penske or maybe in the past, Andretti but not so much right now. McLaren has done a good job with SP Racing since they bought the team and have improved it on the whole but they still aren't a front runner like Ganassi or Penske. I think Palou might regret this, because I don't think he is the best driver amongst the bunch of young drivers that McLaren is looking at in IndyCar, I think both Herta and O'Ward are faster and my money is on one of them getting the seat beside Lando if Zak Brown decides to go with a driver from IndyCar. In the end he might just end up in a good car instead of a great car like he had.

    • @hannesgroesslinger
      @hannesgroesslinger 2 роки тому +3

      the move makes sense on a financial side.
      Palou signed his contract with Ganassi when he was coming from DCR, with only 1 season of Indycar experience and only 1 podium to his name. His salary at Ganassi is abysmal, allegedly even worse than what he got at DCR.
      Apparently Ganassi did not want to renegotiate that contract after he won the championship. Instead CGR made use of an option in said contract to an extension for another 2 years. So Palou would have to stay at Ganassi until 2024 under the same conditions, and despite being an Indycar Champion now, he would remain being one of the worst paid drivers on the grid.
      McLaren offered him a paycheck worthy of a champion.
      The question is whether he can get out of that terrible contract he signed with CGR 2 years ago.

      but it IS a national series at best
      and *comparably* minor to F1, the forefront of Open wheelers

      Imagine calling the series with literally the biggest race in the world a minor national series

      @@Huckle15 Don't bother. Some people have a compulsive need to shit on Indycar for some reason. It's really quite weird because I don't see people doing the same thing for Super Formula, a different single seater series that's mostly popular in one country. And I don't think I've ever seen anyone scoff at the existence of things like DTM and Supercars either.

    According to Brazilian media, Palou is getting pulled from the car this weekend and Tony Kanaan will take his place in the 10 for Toronto. Here's the article from GrandePremio: www.grandepremio.com.br/indy/noticias/ganassi-cogita-tony-kanaan-rifar-alex-palou-troca-mclaren/

      Palou is in the Ganassi car at Toronto and qualified 22nd due to crashing. I think they're checking on Kanaan for later in the year.
