Every re-read that book goes up in my rankings. Might actually be my favourite Dresden book at this point (although Cold Days and Skin Game are in close competition for that).

I just want to thank you for reading the Dresden Files books. I love the series, so much heart in the characters, and I am getting to vicariously experience them again for the first time through your reactions. It is moving, cause they hit me very much the same way I am seeing from your reactions, and I can feel the excitement for them. Enjoy! You have a great ride with lots of emotional highs and lows to come.

OOH!! Roadside Picnic was made in to an incredible film called Stalker back in the 70's. Andrei Tarkovsky directed and its often considered his best film, from director who's already considered one of the greatest directors of the 20th century. It was a trip when I watched it.

Just keep in mind that the movie is absolutely nothing like the book. Both are notable (although I adore the book in particular), but they stand on their own.

Roadside Picnic has been on my list for ages, and now it seems like it's time to finally read it. I'm really looking forward to Turn Coat, which is often overlooked because of how it's sandwiched between the outstanding Small Favor and.... Changes. Oh, Changes. Heck, I'm doing it, too, because *Every* Dresden fan is bouncing up and down waiting for you to get to Changes in June, but Turn Coat is excellent on its own merits.

Me FOMOing you into reading The Strange Bird is pay back for you forcing me to read all of Ambergris in June! I'm also very excited for Dead Astronauts, such a good cover.
On the topic of tropes done well, I feel like The Will of the Many is kind of teh perfect of example of a book thats fairly tropey but knocking them all out of the park.
I do enjoy the videos for the month breakdown, gives me something more specific to look forward too.

I had to rearrange somewhat my April and May TBR, as Petrik & Jake Bishop group-pressured me (though in the nicest way possible, after all Petrik is Southeast Asian and Jake Canadian! 😄) into reading «Howling Dark» right away after finishing «Empire of Silence» earlier in April and the Cyberpunk elements of «Howling Dark» made me want to pick up «Idoru» by William Gibson right after, so I have pushed back «The Green Pearl» (Lyonesse Trilogy #2) from April till May.
Further on my May TBR List, I have:
«The Wise Man’s Fear» by Patrick Rothfuss (Fantasy, sequel to «The Name of the Wind»)
«Madouc» (Lyonesse Trilogy #3) by Jack Vance ((Pre-)Arthurian Fantasy)
«The Dragonbone Chair» (Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn, #1) by Tad Williams (Epic Fantasy, a key influence for George R. R. Martin's « A Song of Ice and Fire»)

Hi Merphy. You've probably heard about movie "Stalker" by andrey tarkovski (or maybe not) commonly regarded as greatest soviet movie and one of the greatest movies in history. This movie is in fact based on the Roadside Picnic (but it's NOT an adaptation, book and movie are very different although script of the movie was written by book authors). So yeah if you will be interested you can go check the movie (it's uploaded on the youtube for free with eng subs). It's a masterpiece.

Turn Coat is sandwiched between two usual favorites of the series but it has some absolute 10/10 parts to it I’m very interested to see your review.
Also you should still read “The Warrior” first, the short story that takes place between Small Favor and Turn Coat, especially if you are a Michael fan.
Also also if you wanna torture yourself (in a good way) read just the first paragraph of the book after Turn Coat.

    • @peterepeatepete2845

I just wanted to call this out in case Merphy wasn't aware and I happened to look at the reading spreadsheet last week.
Ascendance of a Bookworm was originally a Light Novel and the Parts are fully translated in the novel format (the entire series is almost complete).
I noticed that it said that Part 2 is a TBR once the manga is finished and translated into English, but that will likely take several years.
So even if it's for the Manga channel, it might be worth considering moving to the Light Novel version instead (it's almost majority of the Bookworm community's pref method of reading).

Dead Astronauts sounds fascinating. Love the cover, too. As if the paint of it is being bent by weird space-time stuff. I've heard a lot about Roadside Picnic. I kind of bounced off the sample I read a few months ago, but the premise is interesting enough, I might try reading the full book sometime, so it's on my list now. It's only fair I offer a few for you, too! Becky Chambers' Wayfarers series if you haven't already read it, and..........hmm.....most of the books on my shelf you've either read already or probably wouldn't be interested in. I'll have to think outside the box. How about bats [Silverwing series] or airships [Airborn trilogy]? Or weird literary meta-fiction [The Thursday Next series]?

I've only recently discovered your channel (and I love it, FTR) so forgive me if you've covered this but, have you read any of China Mieville's books? You mentioned looking for some fantasy that's outside of the norm and his stuff blends fantasy/sci-fi and it's about as far from the norm as it can be. "Perdido Street Station", "Embassytown" and "Railsea" are all fantastic reads that challenged and delighted me in equal measure.

I felt so bad for him but I wanted to help my friend but it got to the point of him just saying for her to stop because he was sick of all the letters and didnt even bother to read them anyone. that he just wanted to be left alone haha poor guy and poor my friend that spend her days crying because of him, even though I didnt even show her how mad he actually was
