Oh that guy is on subst@ck. his story is incredible…I couldn't put it down, read every chapter in the early morning hours. His story and style of writing, the honesty, vulnerability, and yes, strength, really draw me in. Looking very much forward to the next chapters.

As a bowler, I have few friends who are around 10 - 15 years older than me and pretty much all of them fell for the Spears, one particular chap I have regular lunch meeting with him and although fully Britney'd he always listened to what I had to say.
Anyway, he's recently been diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin lymphoma, I haven't the heart to tell him the reason why anymore.
Whilst on our most recent lunches he said, I know you won't agree but the doctors told him that because of the cancer I needed to protect my immune system it was advised that I took the recent booster, which he did.
I honestly can't believe what he told me, we've played bowls together for the last 10 years winning international honours, I truly believe that he won't be with us this time next year. I truly do despair.
Sorry to hear about your mate. At least you tried to help him.

It’s hard. I can’t get through to friends, wife was boosted and says she won’t take any more, but if push comes to shove, and they rolled out mandates I wonder whether she would comply 😢

Sadly, most of the people I know are fully plugged into the sort of drivel that you showed in the Daily Fail. I haven't read any newspapers for over 20 years and haven't owned a TV for 15 years. I told an 80 year old relative I don't have a TV and why I don't. He asked if I was having mental health issues ! He had been to all the Brittany Spears concerts but complained he wasn't very well but couldn't get to see his GP . I told him I hadn't seen, or wanted to see my GP for the last five years.. At that point he hung up. 😅

In reference to one of the articles in the paper you flicked through - 'why you should be wearing sunglasses even on a cloudy day' (or something to that effect)
Well I read years ago that the amount of vitamin D absorbed by the body is less when wearing sunglasses so I stopped wearing them altogether. Vitamin D is crucial so wondering if the sunglasses thing is also part of the agenda after seeing that 🤔

I think putting an Indian/Asian PM and Home Secretary in charge of stemming the tide of immigration is another manifestation of this gaslighting. Further to that putting Indian Sunak in charge of the Cons and ultra pro-immigration Starmer in charge of Labour amounts to a pincer movement where those who want to vote against mass immigration have nowhere to go. My prediction is they know Starmer will win as Sunak is unelectable and that some scandal will erupt around Starmer (possibly the Saville thing) and they'll put Saddiq Kahn in his place. That will be saying, 'He's destroyed London now he's going to finish off the whole country'.

A great book I read at the start of the pantomime was The Rape Of The Mind by Joost Merloo, a Dutch psychologist during WW2 interviewing German Officers, he coined the term Menticide at the time. Very interesting book covering the tactics employed. Well worth a read if you haven't already.

Talking of the BBC. I've been reading once more, Crime and Punishment (one of the most profound books ever written), by Fyodor Dostoevesky. Side by side with the book I have been watching the 1970 BBC adaptation with John Hurt as Raskolnikov. Anyway, there is a very important section in the book related to the story of Lazarus being raided from the dead. We all know it. The BBC cut it out completely. We know they are atheist communists so why wouldn't they, but as far back as 1970.

Yes. If on the very rare occasion I watch or read MSM, in particular, a not newspaper, they are riddled with these articles covering the opposite of what is happening. I first observed it truly with the housing market, and then really - mainstream financial opinion on investing. What you would find in any business section, ignore.

what you're describing is not really cognitive dissonance.
cognitive dissonance is much more to do with people holding beliefs, for example about a safe and effective treatment and are later given truthful information, this causes the dissonance and often they want to deny the new information
When people are told abject lies that they know are lies that is not a cognitive dissonance it is designed to cause demoralisation Yuri Bezmenov described this.
No, I think that people DO want to deny the information the new contradictory information that has now been given to them by the SAME media outlets that previously told them the exact opposite of what they are now being told.

being told that April 2024 was the hottest on record when you know that is not true does not cause dissonance.
When it is from an authority figure what it causes is anger and demoralisation.
Cognitive dissonance passes very quickly because the individual has conflict, which they resolved by either believing the new piece of information and balancing the dissonance or by rubbishing the new information and balancing the dissonance.
The old Soviets used to use demoralisation very effectively it is when you are forced to repeat things that you know are untrue or in public you have to show that you believe untrue things. It's much worse than cognitive dissonance.

Each story obviously contradicts the last one, then the next one contradicts that, while partly agreeing with it also. Strange paradox. The dissonance comes in when the new stories about the damage go against their repetition training, then they revert back to their '5af3 and äff3ct1v3' thoughts which led them to this point, while still party taking on board the new information. It's obviously meant to slowly confuse them into either going crazy, or actually accepting the truth, then appearing crazy to the remaining daily mail readers.

This is not cognitive dissonance.
This is a propaganda technique called disinformation.
Disinformation is specifically designed to mislead and manipulate public opinion or obscure the truth.
The reasons for the contradictions are because they're pushing people along a path, the first false fact was useful at the time now not so useful so they changed the fact.
For example, during the pandemic, we were all coerced to take a treatment that they said would stop you getting ill and stop you passing it on.
This 'fact' soon became apparent as wrong so it changed to 'take it not to get seriously ill'.
If you talk too many diehards now, they would claim that the first statement was never said by anyone.
This is the power of disinformation. and that is why it's important not to confuse this was cognitive dissonance.
