Great video. For years I drove a truck once a month from Bombala thru Dalgety to Jindabyne. A lot of it was dirt back then. Of all the roads I used to drive, and there were many, this was my favorite. I used to love it in winter, driving across the plains towards the snow covered mountains then up the steep climb toward Jindabyne. I must go back and do it again. It's good it's now all tar but somehow it just won't be the same.
Another blast from past mate thanks, used to go to pop ong that will be spelt wrong, for dirt bike stuff late 70s with lads in club that were from cooma
@@lukesrandomhistory Thanks so much! Was going to drive Alpine way. (Buchan to Jindy) but, with not much experience and with young kids, I think, whilst longer, the drive via Cann River - Bombala, up SRW will be less stressful / easier. Will head to Berridale from Dalgety on Dalgety Rd.
@@DougieL Yes, good choice. The main issue with the Buchan Jindabyne Road are the narrow sections and ever-present threat of oncoming traffic, particularly at this time of the year. The road surface may also be a bit rough due to recent wet weather.
@@lukesrandomhistory It was a very smooth and pleasant drive via Cann River. Thanks again!! We even got lucky in Thredbo with no rain. The kids had a snowball fight; happy times!
@@DougieL Good news! Snow? Wow! Love the Monaro & Snowies. Did you find the Barry Way slideshow on my other channel, to see what you missed? ua-cam.com/video/AmgDEAOjTLA/v-deo.html

It's still a great drive to enjoy over & over again but yes, I agree, not the same experience as when it was unsealed.

I think Dalgety might still be very similar to what you knew of it. Another lovely quiet town with great river frontage.
I drove through this way last week. It is beautiful country.
Yes, I agree the whole of the Monaro has a unique beauty.
Another wonderful video montage Luke, appreciate the time and effort you put into these. Cheers.
Thanks for that. The book part is something new and I'm keen to see how that is received.
Yours seem to be getting around nicely as well.
@@lukesrandomhistory yep, getting out and about, but would love to do more, shame we have to work 🙂
@@outandabout_oz The alternative is to be old and retired like me, but I would much prefer to be young and fit again.
January 2023 Update - Dalgety now has a coffee caravan kiosk, named 'Red Dog'. Official opening 30 January 2023. Next to the old petrol pumps.
One day, this will all be finally developed into an important centre of growth with a lasting legacy.
I hope, for the town's sake, that you are right.
Great pics and thanks for sharing. Is this road now sealed Bombala - Jindabyne? Regards!
Yes, fully sealed. Good, easy run.
