  • Southern Pacific 3709 makes its debut on the mainline at Campo, CA. The low nose GP9, originally manufactured in 1959, was delivered to PSRM in September of 2012. Restoration plans call for the re-installation of the full SP-style light packages and a fresh paint job in the "bloody nose" style. When complete, the locomotive will be a historically accurate representative of the San Diego and Arizona (Eastern) years of this very rail line which was once a subsidiary of Southern Pacific. This series of locomotive once moved freight between San Diego and El Centro. Help this project move along! Your financial contributions are needed to complete the restoration and paint.

The P3 on that unit sounds great. Brings back so many memories watching trains go by with Geeps and Cadillacs on the Permanente branch back in the SP days.

Given the fine paint job that was done on 3873, I expect that this one will be given the same careful treatment.

Nice job on the Southern Pacific GP9 locomotive 3709 and I would like the locomotive to be painted in an experimental paint scheme, based loosely on the Daylight scheme.
