Note: Purple Heart is a sun plant that flowers, Wondering Jew is a shade plant that doesn't flower. Both are SAFE for chickens (and other birds) to eat. *But both can cause stomach issues and skin allergies for cats and dogs. We have wondering jew, but now I'm planning on getting some purple heart too, for the sun exposed areas of the chicken run. Thanks for the tip!!
Is this globe basil? Genovese basil? Does it matter what kind of basil it is? So funny you talk about purple heart. I live in Central Texas and I cannot grow that stuff to safe my soul.....not sure why, but I am going to give it another go.
Hi! They’re in there in hanging baskets and then all along the outside. Because they’re a ground cover, the chickens could potentially dig up the whole plant and kill it. So I keep Purple Heart close where the chickens can reach it and “trim” it but not get to the whole plant. ✌🏻❤️🐓🌱
Hi! They have vitamins as well as being fresh greenery/fiber - I hate the idea of my chickens only eating pellets/crumble and try to get them a varied diet. ✌🏻❤️🐓🌱
How are you hanging with the Texas heat? How is your girl that has the snorkel in her throat? Mine is still thriving, with the snorkeling, seems like the heat makes it worse… I decided to treat this week with Denegard since it’s so hot
We’re surviving but it’s a lot of extra work and I AM SO SICK OF 105+ WEATHER. Ugh. I can’t tell if the heat makes it worse, I feel like when she’s excited that’s when it gets exacerbated. ✌🏻❤️🐓
@@realsimplemama plus I plan on giving to the flock once a month just for maintenance, during maintenance dosing will give for three days… I will keep you posted 😎😘
Love the video this is just what I have been looking for, but can you avoid moving the camera too fast. Doing so kinda makes the person watching feel a bit dizzy.
Hi! Purple Heart is not. It can cause skin irritation to those with highly sensitive skin but no risk for chickens. Mine love it and chow down on the pieces they can reach, but the plant keeps on growing! (I’ll add that similar plants like transcantia zebrina have mixed reviews on whether or not they’re safe, so those are out of reach in my chicken run.) ✌🏻❤️🐓🌱
Thank you, New to Purple Heart.
I’ve found my girls love Roselle leaves & it grows really fast in FL. I hear you on the heat! Our grass is almost all hay now
Thank you RSM 😊
I grow a lot of basil. I dehydrate it . Keep it in jars . Use it a lot for cooking
Basil will not live thru a frost. You can cut and root them, and put them in a pot in the house
I alway look forward to more videos from you!!

Oh! Let me know if the Denagard helps. I have some and tried months ago but never seemed to make a difference.
@@realsimplemama I’m going to try giving for 7 days…I have noticed when Breezy is hot or stressed over something I hear the gurgle!
