    Correction - the speed for the stone fossil engraving was actually 500mm/s and the processing time was 9 hrs. Yes. The stamp is backwards lol.

    Just as a curiosity, how much money do you have to invest for the entire technical setup? Does it make sense to do something like this as a hobby? How long do you have to invest in education to understand all the programmes so that you can make similar workpieces to those in the video? How much energy does the laser use to engrave a coin like this, for example - does that mean the energy costs are high? Do you need a high-voltage socket? Do you need to protect the systems, i.e. laser light protection to prevent the eyes from being damaged, for example? I currently see a lot of videos of such lasers, especially videos from China, which show cool 3D stone engravings. This made me wonder whether you can do this as a hobby and whether these 1.500 $ Alibaba machines are any good. I came across your video by chance, which takes a professional look at the whole process. I think it's pretty cool and exciting!

    1:16 can it be mounted with the lens fader away from the base to use all the working area available on the plate the base is mounted ?

    Great video. However I have a question which I can't find an answer to anywhere. Why are all these galvo, Mopa laser machines not shielded? Glasses are always a last resort when it comes to protection. I would really appreciate it if you could explain me if there is a reason. Thanks again for the review!

      Enclosures with laser shielded acrylic are sold separately as an accessory for 99.9% of machines because they can be pretty expensive and some folks opt to make their own to keeps costs down. I don't film with an enclosure because you wouldn't see much of the action - it's a pita to film with. I imagine it's the same for most creators. Laser shielded glasses and other ppe to protect skin are actually your first defense. Every laser engraving shop should be equipped with ppe and they should be worn for good practice whether using enclosures or not. But goggles and proper clothing will suffice to get by until a person does invest in an enclosure.

      @JamesBiggar Thank you for your reply. I wasn't criticising you. I know it's not possible to film with a green/orange shield on. I do use a co2 laser which came with a shield already installed. It was just my observervation that when it comes to galvo, mopa type lasers the manufacturers just do not include them and wondered if there's something more to it.

      Lol, no worries. Just explaining why they don't come with them and why you don't see them in my video. You could buy a decent 3D printer for the price of some enclosures. Most brands like ComMarker will create different bundle kits that you can buy with the machine. They have 4 different bundles available. They sent me the basic bundle. Just the machine, goggles and some materials. The next one up in price is the rotary bundle, which is the basic bundle including a chuck rotary and driver. Then there's the safety bundle which includes the basic bundle with a 100W fume extractor and a safety shield, which is just a large piece of laser shielded acrylic bent at 90 deg. It's not perfect but provides protection from two sides at least. The most expensive 'ultimate' bundle includes everything that the other bundles have except the safety shield is replaced with a full safety enclosure. The price difference between the basic and the ultimate bundles is nearly $1000, and the enclosure alone is $458.

    I was thinking about engraving onto golf clubs on the back, and cleaning up the grooves on the front . Would this machine be able to do that. Also what about tooling on leather. Would this work ?

    • @JamesBiggar
      @JamesBiggar  Місяць тому

      Yes, it would do all of these tasks well.

    I want to buy a machine that I use to cut and engrave gold. Can this machine cut gold? Is the machine you use a 20 or 30 watt version?

    I take it it doesn't do clear acrylic cutting or etching and thar I still need a CO2?

    • @JamesBiggar
      @JamesBiggar  Місяць тому

      Fiber lasers can't engrave clear acrylic without a marking agent.

      @JamesBiggar Yeah that's what I thought
      But they can't cut it with an agent right only shallow marking?

    This machine is 30W?

    • @JamesBiggar
      @JamesBiggar  Місяць тому +1

      This machine in the video, yes. It's the standard fiber version. It comes with your choice of either a 20W or 30W laser. The JPT MOPA version comes with a 20W, 30W or 60W laser (I misspoke in the video when I said 50W). Links for both are in the description.
