  • If anyone would know what's going on in radio right now, it's Doc.
Doc Wynter is quite literally the most powerful person in Hip Hop radio at media giant iHeartRadio and has been for years.
He also happens to be one of my former bosses and the man that formed a lot of how I see the industry throughout my time working at the Los Angeles iHeart office. Since then, he's stayed a great friend of mine.
So who better to ask if payola exists in 2023, if ChatGPT is going to ruin on-air jobs, and how he decides if he should stop playing an artist's music if they're canceled? Literally no one.

I really enjoy your podcasts. I listened to this first on Spotify and found I had to keep turning it up to hear Doc Wynter. Your voice sounded more dominent, which makes no sense, as lower voices usually come through better. On UA-cam I had no problems with either voice. I usually listen to Spotify because it's a longer interview, but like to visually see you on UA-cam. I am glad you were able to ask some more controversial questions. Sadly he was unable to dicuss anything about payola. Radio does have an interesting history; who knew there were so many BIG egos involved. 🙂 I am glad you brought up the loss of journalism. My daughter majored in & worked in written journalism until COVID, when she lost her job. She was able to switch easily to web producing in tv, but she has watched her friends lose jobs all around her. When you mentioned MTV news, we discussed this, too. It appears to me that you really did love radio, but if you want to live in LA, I am happy you are able to work at something else you love. And your podcasts keep you in the game. I found you, of course, because I am ARMY. So this is so off topic, but...I randomly saw your tic tok on Fire. I, too, had no idea they were singing hot, hot, hot, hotter. And this is one of my favorite bangers! So I had to rush to Fire and listen. Now I can't unhear it, but thank you for bringing this up! Wow, I really did write all this. Oh well. Thanks again.
