Ooh, we get a Sorin time-lapse for unscrewing the board, is that a new thing? I wonder if you can bond/ melt the black plastic a bit into the connector so it can't move? Else like you said, it will probably break again one day. I wonder if the owner accidentally kicked out the usb-c to cause that kind of dent to the case? It will have likely slightly opened up the usb-c metal outer parts and the bent in clips that retain the plastic spacer too (maybe some of that uv glue in the rear part where the black plastic is kind of squeezed in by the metal USB-C might reduce its chance of shifting) ?
12:25 if you have a problem with removing greasy solder flux from the board, try heating it up a bit with hot air and absorb it with a qtip or cotton disk. Then you will have an easy time removing any residues with alcohol or gasoline. Edit. And apart from that, after you clean rosin, the board often stays sticky
Congratulations Sorin 🥳👍🎉 on switching from hot glue. UV glue is indeed stronger and more convenient to use. I like "smelly" epoxy glue that sticks and is iron strong. PRO-POXY 20. I built a broken corner laptop for a customer. Adheres well to plastic after light polishing.
Sorin, it seems the tip of the soldering iron needs to be filed to a sharper point to work on those chip pins. Or is that not possible because of the heat distribution.
It's a warranty repair for a shop so they'll need it to be done as quickly and as cheaply as possible - it all adds up and if it's like any other repair shop repair then Sorin is likely to be getting around £40 for this repair.
I have two motherboards for an ASUS X541U one with i3 7th gen(dead chipset) and another one with i5 7th gen with password locked bios can i swap the bios chip from the i3 one on the i5 one will it work normally?
maybe if you glue that middle plastic to a outer shell of usb port with super glue. might be more rigid. because i see that plastic moving independently
With the case looking a littel bit bent I'd say it's more likely to have been dropped/knocked when the charging cable was plugged in and that's what has caused all that damage.
Hi sorin nice work again. I think you could use some hot glue to reinforce the plastic part of the port to motherboard to extend the life of that port as you say it is a user generated problem but it could help a bit more. :) have fun regards from istanbul Turkiye
Turkey?! Was there a long time ago! At or near Incirlik! Ek mek! Are the "1950s" cars still around? Such an exotic country! Did you ever go to Castle by the Sea?
well done, nice - I don't know about this UV-thingy and how to remove again (if necessary) but why not using hot-glue to fasten the wiggly pins at the charging port? What happens when the port realy need to be changed and there is this hardened UV-stuff, which can't be removed without breaking all tracks involved? ...well, just came to my mind and removing hot-glue might also be tricky, I know
Hi, anyone knows how much it costs to fix this problem. I went to one shop. It says £100. That’s too expensive so I end up not fixing it yet. (Around whitechapel, London)
how did he know that the row of pins that are under the port for usb-c are fine? usb-c has 2 rows of pins right? i dont see how they were not broken as well
Usually, when I come to work like this and the black base is moving, I re-press the holes on the surface of the metal base to install the black base again.
That metal shell on that port is doing nothing to protect that port. Some ports have hidden contacts under the port. If this laptop was new when sold and it is already had this damage I bet it will be back for the same repair.
The crimp on the body of the usb c socket must have been bent so that the black plastic core is free to move. Replacing the socket is the best way to fix this otherwise it may break again even with glue added. Unfortunately there are many different usb c sockets in the market of varying quality and pin arrangement, the cheaper ones can be less robust. I use a magnetic lead with my phone to protect the usb c socket.
Why did US ban Huawei? Huawei has also faced allegations that it has engaged in corporate espionage to steal competitors' intellectual property, and in 2019, was restricted from performing commerce with U.S. companies, over allegations that it willfully exported technology of U.S. origin to Iran in violation of U.S. sanctions.
I follow Sorin for some years so I know what he's capable of but the dexterity with the wire and the iron this time made my jaw drop!
yes sometimes when other people try to give him some advice he reply "You underestimate my experience"
Sorin replacing charging port ❌️
Sorin repairing the original port ✔️
Nice repair
Sorin you are something else buddy the talent you have is like no other
Obviously you don't watch anybody else then. Thousands of people can go just the same as Sorin.
You must be a starter in the field. No disrespect to Zorin. He has good skills but nowhere near as real professionals.
That was a perfect surgery ,sir. I very enjoined when i saw that skillful soldering wires.
Sorin never fails to amaze me wow ❤❤❤

This a really hard job but sorin make it so easy

Yesssss, morning therapy 😌
Happy makara sankranthi sorin sir from India🇮🇳😊

"iron strong epoxy" might work for the case/housing. but here, it is exactly what you don't want, as it has about 0 flexibility.
Those famous wires you usually use, are from wire transformers?
thanks

Does Huawei make their own laptop motherboards? Does it seem its a mid level or entry level laptop? Great fix sir!
how long this charging port can last? as looks like internal plastic part will be moving anyway
Yes indeed, it works ("its fine") for now, but when you see the construction of this USB-C port you know it must fail soon again.
It is better to change out the socket. Metal housing is a bit bent = more wiggle. Also, plastic connector insert is loose with case.

very clean job. enjoyed watch this video
For charging I still prefer barrel jack 😁
Definitely.
And men call this (C usb) PROGRESS
@@fr.lesvagues3430 it is but there are negative stuff to it also.

Good job mate 👍

Yes.
1:40 I like the new Benny Hill mode
Sorin are you considering making some tshirts or stickers? It would be so cool to have like "Thats a nice laptop" sticker :D
Wonder if solder a short usb C cable, glue behind the screen, could be more durable
hi can you please explain why there is second type c slot on this logic board , is this possible to use?
Good morning, I'm not shure, but for what purpose you are using the UV-Gel ? Is it really necessary ?
USB-C, one of the worst designs in technology in recent times
Perfect!!!
Hi! What is the green liquid thing you used with UV light? Never had seen it before. Thank you for the video!
Green solder mask UV curable
Is there a way to soften up the gel? I was just thinking that if it breaks again, there won't be an easy way to replace or repair the port again.
you scrape the green conformal coating off with tweezers.
great job as usuall
maybe apply some hotglue to the back of the port to stabilize the inner part?
why no hot glue used on this? the plastic inside the charging port was moving causing to break the tracks on the board.....
What if gluing this plastic part with the metal part would make this connector more resistant?
maybe if you glue that middle plastic to a outer shell of usb port with super glue. might be more rigid. because i see that plastic moving independently
Sorin, I noticed you were looking into the microscope while shining the UV light, I hope this is safe for your eyes ... take care.
hello friend , i have an huawei honor magicbook, same kind of board usb port, will you be able to fix it if i send the board to you?
With the case looking a littel bit bent I'd say it's more likely to have been dropped/knocked when the charging cable was plugged in and that's what has caused all that damage.
Do you do helium anymore? Is so, what’s the channel? Thanks Sorin.

u cant extend life of that abused laptop, violent customer would broke it again , its pointless
Its a design flaw not user misuse. Give us original power jacks back
Hi ask my laptop charging but not turning on good battry how to fixed it thank you

With UV conformal coating you just scape the coating off with tweezers
Excellent work, soldering etc, uv glue, No Fault now!, lol
Will hot glue work to stop the port moving?
Nice had faulty mps on this one recently from bad port assumably
That's insane! I would throw that at a wall! Lol Damaged port is one thing. Ripped all the traces out is another.
If you put hot glue onto the repair would it not make the port stronger?
Which are the chances? That same laptop's problem was exactly what I was fixing today!
Îmi pare rău dar usb c nu este ok pentru un laptop, poate pentru smartphone dar nu cred că este un conector reușit.
Not convinced with these USB charging ports, changed my acer one in 5 minutes just unplugged and replaced £5

Not all usb c ports have two layers of pins to solder
i see, thanks, so am guessing this one didnt have second row@@stalwartcomputers5182
When is the next episode of Sorin&Diana video?
I put magnetic USB-C adapters on all my devices to eliminate plugging in the charger wire
Usually, when I come to work like this and the black base is moving, I re-press the holes on the surface of the metal base to install the black base again.
Inject the proper amount of superglue into the back of the plastic to stop wiggle 🤷🏼♂️
Nice one
USB C is even worse than barrel jacks. Those Lenovo rectangle ones are quite good though.
Why not replace the connector with new one which can not move/wiggle the pin/plastic inside🤔
its going to be expensive
@@washingLad2014SamsungDestroy nah, the connector cost less than 10 buck a piece

UV gel ??? we miss the hot glue hero
This damage is customer fault. Shouldn't be covered by warranty.
yep, 100%, the laptop/connector had a very strong shock.
I can’t believe, I had the exact same laptop, has to fix 8 traces 😅

No hot glue and make a sandwich this time? it will last longer and with Sorin garantie
Magsafe FTW.
welcome the usb-c wonders, worst charging solution for laptops. Avoid it as much as possible.
These USB-C ports are the worst inventions of the past years....
❤❤🎉
I think the customer should use a magnetic charger
Who is building a USB port that does not hold up by the ground pins and only by the data pins ? it will be always broken .

This is obvious someone that have tripped on the cable or picked up the computer and forgot to unplug the cable.
Maybe some hot glue and it will be perfect 🎉
fuck this computer, I have D15 and same issue.. repaired before but again gone.. what a loose manufactured machine

Why do you always look at the picture through the microscope when the monitor is there?
The binoculars give a 3 dimensional view that a monitor doesn't.
