I'm new to replacing couplers on N Scale, but why not use a T shank replacement and not modify the truck? Glue is scary and seems permanent. What happens if the coupler breaks?

Can you please provide manufacture abd part number of the T shank? I do not know what are you talking about. On the video it is the N Scale Truck Mount Couplers - T Shank .245'' (Medium) 2 Pairs from Micro Trains Line.

@@dcctrain Ah I got confused. Micro Trains does list the 1129 as the part for the E8. I was also looking at my GP18 and BL-2, which MTL recommends the 1135. I think that's where I was getting confused. I guess the question still stands, why are all the modifications needed if you're replacing a T-Shank Rapido with a T-Shank MTL?

This is per customer request, in my opinion T-Shank MTL is working and looking better then older Rapido couplers.

Thank you for both videos. I've been having a hard time trying to find the couplers needed for the life-like e8/9 and you even took it one step further showing how to mount them. Do you have any recommendations for replacing the front couplers on the e8/9?
