Big fan of Bennedict Mathurin. Really want my pistons to take him at 5 if Ivey isn’t available. His skill set when moving off ball to catch or shoot or cut to the rim is very good to have early on at the 2. For example, Devin Booker was deemed as another JJ Redick but he used his off ball skills in his first couple years and developed a better handle and on ball creation.
No he got mad at teammate for making game winner Casey wouldn't give him no minutes and Troy won't draft him a fs top 5 talent tho and he gone be a 3

Honestly, wouldn't be mad if they took him over Ivey! I think that his skillset may fit better with the current team. Would be happy with either guy though!
Pacers at 6, this guy would be a lot of fun next to Haliburton and I think being such a great combo of an athlete/shooter his ceiling is higher than most have him.
As a Pacers fan, I had Sharpe above Mathurin for a while but now I think the only guard I’d take over Mathurin is Ivey if he were there. Mathurin’s potential is becoming more and more apparent to me and his floor is significantly higher than Sharpe’s as well

Great Breakdown on Bennedict Mathurin My Guy 🔥🔥. Mathurin reminds me of Jaylen Brown, after looking at this I think some teams might have Mathurin ahead of Sharp.
I see people saying he's Kentavious Caldwell Pope though.

For me it's a lot harder to overlook that kind of effort when you're a sophomore. If you're a freshman -- or we're looking at AAU and HS tape like Sharpe -- I'll give you the benefit of the doubt that you don't know what you are doing or you just want to get to the draft without getting hurt, but as a sophomore doing that? idk ... NBA teams aren't trying to babysit their role players. There's plenty of undrafted and second round guys you don't need to beg to play hard.
@@paulwarren6062 Mathurin is already stronger and more explosive than KCP was. Mathurin is just going to be a really deadly off the ball guy who can also handle it at times especially when he has a smaller guard on him or in transition. I just hope he figures out how to be more than just a decent defender at the next level.

Already had Jalen Williams in the 15-24 tier last board but I'm even more confident in that now.
Andrew Nembhard and Dereon Seabron as well. If I have time this weekend I may put out a quick pod recapping some of that stuff but I've just been super busy lately!
The only thing that concerns me with his jumper is no matter where he catches the ball, he brings it all the way down before going back up. He still has a high release but it is just a little strange and slows it down enough that it may be affected at the next level.
I noticed the same thing. Slow release, brings the ball all the way down to his knees
I was concerned about that as well. But that's something a summer or two can fix
I saw during combine workouts he’s not jumping as high anymore on his shot. That’s a good sign

Mathurin would fit well in OKC if he happens to fall to 12. They need wings who can shoot threes and finish in transition, and their coaching staff would probably be able to turn him into a solid defender.

For some reason Pacers fans have fallen in love with him at 6, so I was waiting for this one. Sharpe does scare me, but considering this is the Pacers first pick in the single digits since 1988 or something, I'm all for going for the home run, and living with the consequences. I think the Pacers will try to trade up, heavily. But does anyone want to move down? Pritchard compared this to his draft in Portland where he got Roy/Aldridge with several draft day trades. I'm good with trading anyone that wasn't a rookie last year (and Haliburton, he goes nowhere) to move around the draft to add 2 lottery guys. Rebuild this thing, Pacers have never done it.

@@cristianandrade7954 the Sabonis trade was all in to make the playoffs. I think they take Murray, who fills a need and can play day 1. It fits the 'make the playoffs' mindset they have, or maybe they trade back or out. But they haven't made the playoffs since 2006.

I'm high on Benn... I think at his absolute floor he can be a Tim Hardaway Jr esque player.. THJ back in NY was a streak shooter who could get red hot.... excellent at finishing at the rim and in transition, shaky but promising on defense.. I see alot of similarities with Benn

was so impressed by the offensive display/package, was thinking he might have some of the best potential in the draft. the defensive lowlights definitely shocked me, looked a lil Harden-esque, simply wasn't trying. he clearly has potential to be a great two-way player, dominate on the defensive end and very reliable on the offensive. hope he decides to work towards that, def feel he has the gifts to be as great as he wants
defensive awareness and ability to get off screens are teachable skills. with his motor and drive those should be pretty easily feasible

As a Kings fan, I either want Ivey, Sharpe, or for us to trade back and pickup Mathurin. IMO, Mathurin is the best player in this draft or at least, he will be.

Came back to watch this a month into the season and the projected ceiling for Mathurin feels low considering he’s in a two man race for Rookie of the Year and he’s showing more James Harden than Jason Richardson or KCP.

It seems like his defense isn't because he doesn't understand. I can see issues being fixed depending on which team drafts him. He'll learn if he wants to become a starter or more he must try on defense. This guy has a high ceiling in my opinion.

I can see teams like sacremento and Portland trading their draft picks, selections #4 and #7. Toronto should look to trade up and I'd be fine to give up og and cap filler for additional assets and high draft pick to get Benedict. If Portland gave up nurkic and #7. Or sacremento gave us richaun Holmes and #4. They'd get a 24 year old defensive starting forward that can give them close to 20ppg on a good team contract. Raptors have some overlap at the forward position and need a traditional big man to bolster roster and with the high draft pick mathurin can slide into that 6 the man guard depth behind Fred and Gary we need. Perhaps og can realize his all-star potential elsewhere. If the likes of Wiggins and Draymond can make an all-star team, with more touches I can see that for him. Toronto would get depth in two positions of need and more easily expand on the roles of Barnes and achiuwa.

I like this dudes tape more than several dudes rated ahead of him. He’s got pro skills with + athleticism. I normally cringe when people say a prospect has great athleticism, as that’s a huge red flag for me. So many instances in the past 20 years where “freak athletes” lacked the sufficient basketball IQ to be anything more than an 8th man on the roster. Not here tho. That shot looks great and the athleticism is a compliment if anything; not a crutch

He takes bad angles on defense, definitely ball watches and doesn’t show great composure on defense but he could be a lot better if he knew how to use his angles and close off drives better.
