It receives much better than the UV-5R. But that's not saying much, since my UV-5Rs have the worst reception of all my HTs, and none of my many antennas help compensate for that.
Sorry, for the naive silly question, I am new to this world, and I am planning to get the HAM license, do you think this would be a good option for a newbie like me?
I can't check until BTECH sends me my replacement. I sent it back because of the harmonic, and they said they'll fix it. I'll try to remember to answer when I can!
What is the difference between this one and the b tech distribution model? Picked up tidradio h3 as my first pair of radios and the firmware on mine have been an issue with transmitting
The Pro radio comes from BTECH whether you get it from the BTECH web site or Amazon. Same radio. In fact, if you need support from BTECH, you can use your Amazon order ID to get the support.
i have the old one only in 2 meter and 70Cm i have few 2 meter repeater uploaded into it but i am not very surgical with it i got the Abbree antenna and its pretty good
Besides the watts and flashlight/GPS, what are the available TX frequency differences between the new BF F8HP PRO and the BF AR-5RM? Both are UNLOCKED HAM radios and seem to TX on the exact same frequencies. Please advise. I am hoping to pull the trigger and buy one this before Thanksgiving. Would the TD H3 be a better option to have as far as the number of frequencies that can be accessed to transmit?
Just my personal pick - I would get the H3. But the H3 is weak and not clean on 220. If 220 is important to you, my Talkpod A36 Plus 8w is clean on 220. The F8HP Pro has more power on 220, but is very dirty on 2m and a little dirty on 220. BTECH said it shouldn't be dirty and gave me an RMA, but I still don't have a replacement to see if it's clean now. As always, your mileage may vary.
Good job Sir! I have mine arriving on Monday. The 2M harmonic is merely the sacrificial lamb and not like it will start WW3 or anything. I like the form factor of this one. I also bought the 5RM for the same reason. It just happens to be a good radio as well.
@N2EWSRadio Thank you, i must of missed it on the video but I see it now. Very interesting that for the 70cm and GMRS frequencies it operates a lot cleaner than the 2.
@N2EWSRadio New subscriber here!! It's always great to have more of the radio content being created! I can't wait for what the channel brings us for the future, let's get that 1000th subscription everybody!! This channel definitely has my support! 🏁
I agreed to your comment about stop watch 😂 but then I quickly put myself in a life or death situation where I might have to breath every 20 seconds in a cave/fire/water/etc to save oxygen or whatever then it's not a bad idea.
@N2EWSRadio what about if me and my husband communicate. One of us drives over 30 miles to take our daughter to work. On the way, it is a big dead spot, and phones don't work. Would a license be required for that for emergencies only? There would be no other way to communicate.
@@SarahEA1 If it's a real emergency, yes, you can. If you really want to be legal, just get a GMRS license. It's $35 and no test, and the license applies to everyone in your immediate family. You're not supposed to use a BF-F8HP Pro on GMRS, even though it's possible. You can get affordable GMRS walkie talkies if you want to play it safe.
Thank you for the comment. I'm still waiting for BTECH to send me my replacement, and I ordered a second unit. I'll do a follow-up video on it when I get them.
I'm not saying you should care. Most people don't, and I'm fine with that. It's just that this is an unusually STRONG harmonic, compared with other radios in this price range and cheaper.

Thank you for your review Sir.... not much on UA-cam about this radio at this time.... very informative ... SUBSCRIBED !
Much appreciated!
Does it have better front-end filters?
When I put a better antenna on my UV-5R, it goes completely deaf.

Yes, it would be fine option. I prefer the Tidradio TD-H3, though.
finaly has nice display screen
Question about scanning channels. Does it scan just within the zone or does it scan all the channels? Thanks

can thi radio do spectrum mode like the quansheng k5?
The Quansheng needs custom firmware to do that. There's no custom firmware for this radio, at least not yet.

Does this radio also TX on GMRS freqs or just RX?
Yes, it transmits on GMRS.
Does it have a roger beep?
Yes, it does! You can turn it on or off.

Great video! How did you upload the picture to the boot screen? Was this done through CHIRP? Thanks
It's an option in the Baofeng CPS software. It's under Tools-Upload startup picture to radio. It has to be 160x128 in size.

@@mrkevin6354 Yes, it does.

Wow if they had a customizable firmware (like Quansheng) that would be even better.
Are gmrs harmonics ok? Thanks for sharing!
Yes, it's clean on 440 and GMRS frequencies. You can see the 440 and GMRS signals on my TinySA Ultra at the end of the video.

what are you using to program the radio chirp isnt working for me. the bffahp pro isnt in the list of radios
Do you have the latest version of Chirp Next? It's in there for me.
@N2EWSRadio i had to re download chirp and worked no problem.
Was trying to figure out how to add a Startm start image but couldn't figure it out
That is my problem also. My computer runs Windows7 and chirp next is supposed to run on 10 or 11.
You have to download the baefeng program to change a picture.
cool review
Is the Baofung company related to the Baofeng company?
No, but if the rumors are true, Boofwang is

Do you have to have a license for this?
Anyone can listen, no license required. You need a license to transmit.

how many memories altogether ?
It puts memories in zones for a total of 1,000, 10 zones of 100 memories each.
What upgrade antenna would you recommend?

Nice little review. In my opinion the stopwatch is pointless. 🤠
Since it is gps capable I don’t know why they don’t replace it with a clock.

Saving squirls in one state killing them in another. This country is definitely divided. The little bit of news you broadcasted from your radio.
Can the GPS function be turned off?
Yes, you can turn off the GPS receiver. And that's a good thing, because if it can't get a signal, it drains the battery really quickly.
