In the future, i strongly advise you 1st check the review comments from past travellers before giving your hard-earned cash to a tour guide. That said, Ethiopia is incredibly beautiful and gifted, with natural beauty + rich history + diverse cultures. Another interesting fact you may like - Did you know that over 80% of mountain ranges in Africa are found in Ethiopia alone. Thus, all central parts of Ethiopia are mountainous and relatively cool. It's only in mainly border areas near Somalia, Djibouti and Sudan one encounters hot, lowland, and deserty environments. @BackpackerBen Explanation for Afar triangle (which extends from Ethiopia to Djibouti and Eritrea). Is the top part of the great ‘Rift Valley’ - The Earths crust is at its thinnest and the sun ☀️ is incredibly hot = you turning into toast lol 😂. In all seriousness- The Somali tectonic plate is moving away from the African tectonic plate. This creates the volcanos 🌋 and thinning of the crust. If you also wanted to experience the most pleasant weather in the world, go to most of the Ethiopia regions where the temperature is b/ n 15-20 degrees all year round. The average annual temperature even for this lowest point is about 35 degree Celsius. What makes this place unique is being the lowest depression and the Volcano, not being the hottest place. Not true at all. This is original Afar land. No other people except nomads live here. This is a pure lie. Look through all historic books and references and you will always see that Dalol and the Danakil Depression is Afar land. Tigray has their own region and their own beautiful land. It's bad to claim other people's home. Stop.

Prior to the adoption of the 1995 constitution, a portion of this Zone (particularly the northern part) was part of Tigray Province.[2] As a result, a UNDP mission visiting the Zone described it as "the most isolated zone of the Afar National Regional State", at the time showing signs of "suffered heavily from bombardment, as well as from general neglect. Much of the remaining infrastructure dates from the Haile Selassie era."[3]
Zone 2 of Afar was part of Tigray province.

Ben, I think you choose the wrong season (May - July very hot) to travel to Afar Depression as it is pick of summer season. It is recommended to go there around January - April.
