- The Roland VRC-01 is a piece of hardware designed to work with Roland's AeroCaster iPad and mobile phone software, resulting in a simple way to livestream (or record) video productions, complete with pro audio and up to four smartphone video sources. It is designed to be cheap, easy and simple - as long as you already own iOS/Android phones to use as cameras, and an iPad to use as the "brains". It's unique, and works well.

good video. I want to use mine live streaming drag racing off of satellite internet. I need mic recommendations, since this doesn't support the phone mics it needs to be wireless if possible so i can move around slightly thanks
We love the Rode Wireless Go, which is what we use on all our livestreams.

Hey Phil, love the video as always. Question for you - would you mind linking to the pieces of equipment I would need for perfecting the audio when (for a pioneer XDJ XZ) filming on an iPhone. I.E Tik Toks or livestreams. I have a Native instruments 2 Audio Interface but it looks like I need an IRig Stream and new cables. I am also a bit confused on which outputs on XDJ XZ I am plugging in to/ Thank you so much in advance!

Wow, great little gadget! Can you use this with 2 or 3 iPhones instead of the Mevo cameras and soffware? I like my Mevos but they're terrible in non-perfect lighting

Great video! One question. Could I hook this up to my Universal Audio Apollo audio interface to play the sound from my DAW software?
Potentially, not sure how I'd set that up though
@Digital DJ Tips I figured it out. Basically, you just need a line in to split 1/4 audio cable. Plug the 1/4 cables into the line out of the UA Apollo and the 3.5 mm end into the line in of the Aerocaster. Then, adjust the volume on the aerocaster mixer section and headphones out and it works.

While I'd love to, it;'s not a good use of my time as 99.9% of our audience will not want or need a studio like that! But just FYI, we use a mix of Blackmagic Pocket 6K cameras, Sony Alpha DSLR cameras, an ATEM Pro Extreme switcher (you can see it in this video), Aputure lighting, and all the usual Manfrotto-style clamps, stands, mounts, overhead booms etc, plus Rode Wireless Go 2 mics. Hope that gives a bit of insight! :)
Hi Phil. Your video is indeed very educational. How do you connect the laptop to the app so that I can show a PowerPoint presentation, as an example? Also, will the app capture the sound if I play a video from the laptop? Appreciate your views on these.
You can’t do that I don’t think
You have to create a link it’s in the camera selection

Yes, you'd upload it as a still media item, and create it with a transparent background.

Great video.... Do you know if I can use my MacBook Pro wirelessly with the VRC-01? I want to use my existing cell phones (as product intended) in conjuction with my Action camera linked to my laptop as the webcam.... or maybe with a USB C hub to split the signals between the iPad to VRC and using Camera as webcam for the iPad??? Any feedback would be appreciated... Thanks

Yes you can set it up that way with something called Loopback which is a feature

Thanks for the vid. May l ask a question? On the app can one customise to include lower thirds and other graphics? This looks like a wise buy for budget streamers than the rodecaster. It seems to combine rodecaster and atem into one. Second question: is the overall sound any good and can you record your shows?
Yes you can make transparent still lower thirds and add them in the media feature. Yes, if you press record in OBS, you can record your shows too.

I have irig stream. I wanted to use my iPad for live streaming. I trying find stream to go live on. They say obs studio or do I use this one. I don’t know what to use for iPad. Thanks!

You can go live with this without using other software as Roland provides that for you. IRig Stream is an audio interface and you do not need it if you have this. If you want to go live from an iPad you will need some kind of software
Would love to see how that compares to the blackmagic atem mini since the smaller one is quite similar in price of the roland unit. I read somewhere in the comments that you use blackmagic atem pro so I guess you have quite the insight into the software. Also does the roland one work with normal webcams+obs as well if you are not an apple user?
The Roland unit will work as an audio interface with Windows etc, but for video functions you need the iPad and the iPad app. No, doesn't work with normal webcams. Blackmagic ATEM Mini is roughly the "laptop" version of this (but with wired cameras), Blackmagic ATEM Mini Pro can go live to the internet without a laptop at all (although you'll still need a computer to open the control panel to do a lot of things you'll need to do).
The main difference and huge difference I'd say is that the Roland unit uses cell phones and cameras... The atem, that's a more difficult process.
Can you plug in an DSL camera?

Can I use it also for streaming in live on Instagram ?
Any streaming service that gives you a stream key
It's a no-brainer for a band with four members (with smartphones).
I think that is the reason why this was invented.
As for the naming, VRC-1 is the letter & ciphercode, Aerocaster is the type of product.
As in Boss DD-3T, DD-7, DD-200 and DD-500, all Digtal Delay. And both BD-2 and BD-2W are both Blues Driver. More like this: GGS-5 & GGS-8: Gigcaster.

I have been anle to use IOS phones, but Android can only be used to stream using goigle chrome. Adroid phone cameras do nit work. Can you confirm that this is correct?

I think this is really a great device, I would have preferred if it could livestream in its own and I guess that's where ATEM is unbeatable... it has no dependencies... (PC/MAC or any device)
Yes, ATEM is certainly cool for that (that is exactly how we use ATEM) - but then again, as you're using the iPad anyway...
@@digitaldjtips I've custom setup my ATEM with Macros, run all the tests once... don't have to touch it ever again. I have a 7" monitor (via HDMI) for preview and that's all... one touch button and I'm live. Atem rocks... if I could pick one downside it's the unbalanced audio... :)

It can stream to anywhere in theory, not sure how it would handle vertical video

I rather us Obs its free.. usb cameras are way cheaper then buying a phone.
Assuming you don't already own an iOS/Android device or two, which is the point here. Also phones produce better pictures than even the best USB cameras. Good that people have a choice!
IOS 13.6 is the minimum so those iphone 5 & 6 's you have in a draw are not going to work.
