I just love, love, love old films like "The Good Housewife In Her Kitchen," Tessie! I'm going to have so much fun watching that tonight. Thank you for putting the link up there. Sometimes I think I was born way too late. I would have fit in much better back when that film was made! 😀 I've never had homemade cranberry juice, but it looks delicious! And beautiful! Those cranberries look like rubies. So pretty. We can just imagine a meal that includes the goodies you made. Maybe a homemade meatloaf, homemade onion rolls and cranberry juice...? What a great combination of chemical-free natural flavors, packed with vitamins and protein and other good nutrition. All because a "Good Housewife" was happy to be "In her Kitchen!" Emotional lately. Thinking about jars. The grandma jar of over eighty years. Very cool !!! Thinking about my grandmother. both my grandmothers and my mom. Them canning. Certain jars that were older, colored, or favorites. Didn't even leave my mom's house or my grandma's house. I absolutely love jars. If I had a second back with each of my grandmother's and my mom. For every time they said, ' jar,' I'd be a really really rich person with time with them all right now. I was blessed to have them. Both my grandma's, my mom and the jars :-) I was blessed to have all of them. Don't forget to get my jars back. Don't break my jar. How many jars do I have on cellar shelves ? So on and so forth. I just love anytime Tessie cans. And says, 'JARS ' :-) it's soul warming for me to hear. I love old canning jars and the memories :-) they bring me. Great video.

Tessie, I freeze raw cranberries when they're at the height of freshness and availability. They freeze well and up to a year or so. I have a recipe for cranberry orange bread that I just adore. I also make a cranberry ginger pear sauce that's a big hit around the holidays. That also freezes for a very long time when you want to celebrate after the holidays.

Cranberries, the number one solution when it comes to bladder infections. So it is always good to have something like that at home. I wonder if there is some information in something related with 'The good housewife in her Kitchen' were they speak about a haybox. In older Dutch material they speak about it. During the depression days, the war and a few years after that, they used a haybox to save some energy. I don't know if it was a European thing or did they use it in the USA as well.
@@pellis6928 some things were getting done if you put them in a hay box. For example potatos. They had only had to bring them to boil and put them in the hay box. after 20 or 25 minutes they were done. So it saved them 15 till 20 minutes of energy. You could do the same thing (but different times) with rice or soup. It stayed warm and don't cool off and saves you quit some propane, gas or electricity.
@@pellis6928 an insulated box (mostly used with cooling elements, to keep your drinks cool at the beach) and a thick blanket will work too. That doesn't look old fashioned.. but it works. In old dutch cookbooks they were using them, and I have some information about times etc...

I have always loved cranberry juice. When I was young and other kids were drinking apple juice and orange juice I was the kid who drank cranberry juice, LOL
I bought ten large bags of cranberries when they were on sale and put them in 3 portions from each bag. I take one bag out at a time and make cranberry sauce for my hubby to put over his cottage cheese--yes cottage cheese! He loves it and insists on it spoiled only child--lol We both drink a cup of cranberry juice a day because it is good for vitamins and bladder health. If I could get enough bags bought next year, I will make the juice also.

I love making cranberry juice. I make mine in quart jars too. I make mine with 1/3 cup cranberries per quart jar and 1/4 cup sugar. I also wait 6-8 weeks before opening too.. It tastes so good. Have you ever made it with less than 2 cups cranberries? I'm frugal and I know you are too. I was just thinking that you could have made so many more jars with less berries. I was just curious. I eat my cranberries in the juice but some people make cranberry muffins. There is nothing prettier than cranberry juice! Thank you for the onion biscuit recipe. I'll be making that! I worry about flour going rancid. I don't use a lot of it...but I have had flour stored away for a year that I brought out and it had an awful taste. I stored it as directed and it still had a funky taste and smell. Any suggestions. Storing directions were....freeze in freezer for 3 days...bring back to room temperature (2) days...put in canning jars and dry can with vac seal.. ??

Yes, you can use Splenda instead of sugar. I'm Diabetic & have found I need to consider the natural sugar in fruits as well. Just a little idea

I eat cranberry sauce year round for my kidneys. You can mix cranberry juice with apple too. My kidney Doctor always told me to drink apple juice
