I worked as a detention officer, and from experience, i can tell you. This will never stop. Especially if inmates have access to money.

I've actually been to prison - the only way contraband gets in *is if the guards allow it.*

only through staff, but by visitors as well. I've even seen in flown in on drones.
False narrative. I know several people in prison and they all say most contraband is not brought in by COs, though some definitely is. Drugs are soaked in paper and sent in as legal mail; inmates with passes (as you know, they exist) routinely bring in loads of phones, cigarettes, liquor, and drugs; vendors pack contraband in boxes labeled as food or other supplies; and family members bring in all kinds of contraband and have creative ways of swapping it during visits. I even knew one woman who wore a new pair of athletic shoes in her husband's size to every visit. They would swap shoes under the table and the husband had a thriving business selling shoes on the inside.

Our local county jail stopped all in person visits and all mail. It cut down contraband to almost nonexistent.

Having been in prison, I assure you that controlling the food being smuggled in was the real loss to those prisoners who use it to control the inside working of the prison.
The rest of that crap was just bonus, but the lack of food in a prison is a real crime in its self. Ramen is the currency of the inner prison.

A pack of cigarettes can go for $100 of more in jail. There’s apparently a lot of smoking going on in there. So there is no way they weren’t aware. Marijuana has a distinct smell and travels everywhere.
prob fake newports, they usually roll their own cause its a lot cheaper. As far as thc is concerned, they are prob smuggling in wax/hash and putting in in the ciggarettes to help mask the smell, and to give a better rush. not to mention vape pens and stuff, i wonder how much those go for in prison.

Last time I was in that jail was in 2012 & it was off the chain then. Female correctional officers choosing guys & especially if you were quiet & kept to yourself. They'd do anything which was scary & strange. If they don't fire everyone working there I don't see it stopping. Too many people getting too much money outside of their job for it to completely end

This sheriff projects himself as an official who's in control of things with a calm and cool demeanor. A man who's been at the helm for years , tons of experience and professionalism. When it comes to correctional facilities there should be no such thing as trust. Even with the staff! Every one and everything needs to be searched, sniffed, scanned. No money should be allowed at any time. Staff should have any personal belongings secured in a lockbox before entering and only carry ID thats needed to move within the facility. Make the correctional facilities just that not a holiday inn for a vacation.

I never understood banning cigs from prison. What else can they do?
The problem is that most prison are sealed shut so smoke travels throughout cells. Often people are locked in sometimes 24 hrs and that could be deadly to people with health problems.

Yeah while the “other” usual suspects account for 99% of what is seen on to catch a predator.
I was a Correctional Officer for 10 years and we went out of our way to get bad officers/staff fired and charged. For a long time I thought this was the normal for Jail or Prison staff because introducing anything into a facility increases the danger, its not just doing the right thing but its also just self interest. I have seen way to many cases to believe that anymore, I was just lucky in where I worked. Greed is a hell of a drug I guess.

Why wasn't there procedures in place already to prevent this kind of thing? Is it a matter of laziness on the part of the Sheriff's office and the prison, or was there no written procedure in place that was to be followed when inspecting incoming deliveries? This sounds super sus and is likely much more proliferate than just this one guard.
