I mean - the thrift store is also filled with stuff from people who passed away. If they don't sell it, it'll just be donated. Just think of it as honoring their stuff and giving it a new life.
This! My grandma was an avid crafter and had a lot of left over stock that she was never able to sell at craft fairs. My family and I already owned so many pieces that we couldn’t take anymore. Having an estate sale was so nice because we got to see all these lovely people appreciate her pieces and give them new life! Especially all her Christmas items since she was a Christmas s fanatic. She continues to bring people Christmas joy even though she is passed :)
@@sarahc6171 I love that! I have these amazing tufted, framed, embroidered flower pieces that I bought at an estate sale. They were definetly made by hand and I've never seen anything like them. One of my favorite pieces in my house and happy to keep someone's beautiful art in my home!!
When my grandma passed, she had been living in an assisted living center, so no estate sale. We took her clothes and items to goodwill. We went to that same goodwill a week or so later and ended up seeing some of her clothes already being displayed. It was a strange and humbling experiencing seeing her clothes hanging in a store. Point being, an estate sale seems like a nice way to honor her life. People get to see the items where they were actually used every day. At the store, you don't carry that same awareness. :)
As someone who worked in thrift store donations for like 2 years, yep, can confirm. Lots of people will straight-up tell you "this stuff is from my mother/father/grandpa/etc. who passed away" lol one guy was like "this is my mother-in-law's stuff, she passed away" and I said "sorry for your loss" and he was basically just like "oh yeah whatever she was a bitch"
A couple things to keep in mind with estate sales: if you're looking for collectibles or things that are popular items (like clothing), it's best to try and get there when the sale starts since those go quickly. If you're not looking for anything in particular, try going within the last couple hours before the sale closes...things are pretty picked over at that point but sometimes you can bundle items together and get them even cheaper because they are looking to offload as much as they can before the end of the day. Example: I once walked away with three board games, two bottles of wine, a serving platter, and several yards of fabric for $5.
I love estate sales, the best one that I went to was hosted by the home owner(she was moving in with her son). She was lovely, I chatted with her for like an hour as she told me the stories about all the things in the home. I got two hand crocheted blankets that she made, a vintage lamp that I will pass down to my son when I get old, a wool trench coat and she gave me a necklace that had been given to her by a boyfriend she had in high school.
That sounds like such a special experience! I once went to a moving sale in an older woman's trailer and she had two small antique hand mirrors, all pink and girly, that she said were hers as a little girl. She saw how much I loved them and gave me an amazing deal, and Ill always treasure them!!! The smile on her face when she thought back to when she had first gotten them was such a lovely thing to see. Everything means more when you know its story.
Oh I find it WAYYY more common that the estate sales I go to are older couples who downsize or move into an assisted living situation. I’ve been to plenty where the actual owners were there (alive and well!) Just trying to get their lives in order so their kids won’t have to handle “a lot” when the time does come. 🤗
I love the personal nature of estate sales. It feels like a museum of someone's life! You can definitely go to ones with a weird vibe but in my experience they're mostly like way better than average garage sales.
Hi Carrie! Hometown Buffet was a childhood staple for me. I even remember the employees wearing those hats. My family and I went every single Saturday from when I was a kid all the way through college - yes it’s absolutely old people food - but unfortunately they’ve all closed down in my area. This place is so nostalgic for me and if you’d be up to selling it, I’d love to buy it from you! Ps. Love your content, I watch every single video
This goes for both regular yard sales and estate sales, but any time they’re marked as “vintage” or any other buzz word those are usually the worst ones, either A: because they didn’t have good stuff to begin with or B: everyone rushed there and it was cleared out first thing in the morning
Even though your hair isn’t as red anymore I think this tone of blonde on you is the prettiest!! (At least the color camera is picking up) you look so pretty!
Amazing finds, Carrie! My husband and I have been hardcore estate/yard sale enthusiasts for over 15 years now. It can be a lot of work, but there are a lot of gems waiting to be found. Would love to see more of this ♥️
I personally love estate sales. I have found some amazing things. I have really missed it since I have not been during COVID. I use to live near Detroit and it was amazing to go into some of the massive old mansions down there. Seeing the architecture alone was worth the trip.
The thing about old people holding on to their stuff for a long time... my grandma is definitely like that, everything in her house is 30, 40, 50 years old and for most of it she has a story about where it came from. I like collecting vintage stuff myself and it's kind of trippy to think that someday I could be an old lady with my Pyrex from the '60s and '70s that's now like 100 years old lol
You should set the times on the retro clocks you buy to important times in your life. What time you and Drew each were born. Maybe use the hour and minute hands to represent month and day for days somehow. It'd be a cute little hidden easter egg in your home.
Love a good estate sale! When my fiancé & I moved into our house, i was at estate sales almost every weekend looking for tools, decor, & other things first time home owners might need. They really are hit or miss but it’s a great feeling when you find the gems that you need
Think its probs one of those things that some days it will just be rubbish but some days will be full of gems. The tables so cute and I'm sure if you took the clock apart you could just get a new battery powered mechanism for it if you wanted it to work. I feel like Macey would of totally rocked that pink leather jacket! X
As a vintage seller I go to a ton of estate sales!! Definitely a lot of work and I’m glad you experienced it! I usually get up early to wait in line before they open, and definitely experience a lot of strike outs! I hope it helps people realize why buying from vintage sellers who curate and resell is worth it ❤️
first of all, i absolutely loved your first outfit! second of all, please keep doing these videos it was so fun!! since i'm from Italy i had no idea about these estate sales and it would be so cool to watch some more!!
This was my fave viddy in a while! I loved the vibe! It reminded me of garage saling with my mom when I was younger!!! MORE ESTATE SALES!!! Now I actually want to check them out in my area!
I laughed when you called those floral boxes cushions. They definitely looked like it but when you zoomed in I could see the handles and the lid. Very cute still!
I lived in Phoenix for 10 years, ages 4-14. We lived off of 32nd and McDowell. I went to Papago Elementary School. Thanks for getting some video of the city. I have some great memories of my years there.
Carrie I live in Phoenix and the sun city estate sales are the best, but you need to go on thursdays when they start. They have great thrift stores outin sun city too.😍❤️❤️
Love estate sales! Also, not all are held for people who pass away. It can be they are moving far away, downsizing, etc. What helps me is thinking of giving their items new life, honoring the life they had prior to you.
You're looking good now I might say 😊 and that antique table is awesome...I think estate sale is the way to go if you like to surprise yourself with amazing stuff from other people's collection 😉
I’m so happy you went. I love estate sales, even though I can’t go to many anymore because I work in the mornings now. They’re not always done because someone’s passed away; my parents held one when they were moving out of their four-bedroom into a two-bedroom townhouse.
Good stuff! Love the table especially. Yes to you and Blazed and Glazed. Yes to more estate sales in general, if you want to. You need to enjoy. At least hauls would be neat
I’ve never been to an estate sale but growing up my family and I would spend weekend mornings driving around just looking for garage sales. They’re so fun and you can find some pretty neat things
i've been wanting to try estate sales and this inspired me to look for some next week! also i love keeping stuff with the thought "one day this will be at an estate sale or antique shop and someone will fall in love with it" lol
I love your sweather!!!! I love garagesales, Grate places to find vintage I loved the old radio s and old furniture. Loved the video, I would not mind seeing more of these Thank you for sharing your finds X
With more experience, you will get a hang of which estate sale contents match up to what your looking for. Also if you cluck on the sale description link, the sometimes better sellers will post size range of clothing & whether its mens or womens clothing. First time out, you did well, that plant stand was a good score!
OMG! I go to Sun City estate sales all of the time, and went to the sale with the Disney stuff, as well! I went to that sale specifically because it had so much Disney, and I bought some of it (there was a Disneyland tray, etc.) It must have been just before you. So funny! And I did indeed wear a mask. I think I was the only one - ha!
My mom and I used to go to local estate sails every Saturday! There was a company near us that would host every weekend and towards the end of the day items would get discounted. I miss going to them! Loved the blazer and the outfit you showed with it. SP beautiful
There used to be a Hometown Buffet near the i17 and bell. When I was in middle school I had some friends who's dad would take them there for dinner every night (I am not kidding) and sometimes I would be invited lol. Your hat just unlocked so many memories for me!
I mean - the thrift store is also filled with stuff from people who passed away. If they don't sell it, it'll just be donated. Just think of it as honoring their stuff and giving it a new life.

Exactly! I was going to comment the same thing, but you said it well.

Nice combination of stuff

Yes to more estate sales. And would love to see one with Lexi!

P.s set the clock to 10:10 so it smiles at you ^.^
Did anyone else think she scored?!?! I thought to myself “oh Carrie those are gems!!” 😍😍😍
I especially covet that table/plant stand lol
I love the personal nature of estate sales. It feels like a museum of someone's life! You can definitely go to ones with a weird vibe but in my experience they're mostly like way better than average garage sales.
Wow I love that museum of someone’s life I just love that thank you for putting it that way I’m always going to remember that!!!
Carrie, your haul portion look is giving me Lindsey Lohan in Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen vibes and I’m LIVING FOR IT!! 👏🏼💕

Hi Carrie! Hometown Buffet was a childhood staple for me. I even remember the employees wearing those hats. Ps. Love your content, I watch every single video
I'd love to see more estate sale hauls!! You don't have to vlog if you're uncomfortable, but I def want to see the items you pick up :)
This goes for both regular yard sales and estate sales, but any time they’re marked as “vintage” or any other buzz word those are usually the worst ones, either A: because they didn’t have good stuff to begin with or B: everyone rushed there and it was cleared out first thing in the morning
Carrie just looks so good lately! Like her skin is glowing! She's so beautiful 💕
Would love to see more of this ♥️
Also this was probably a pretty accurate experience - estates sales are super hit or miss!
I personally love estate sales. I have found some amazing things. I have really missed it since I have not been during COVID. I use to live near Detroit and it was amazing to go into some of the massive old mansions down there. Seeing the architecture alone was worth the trip.

Ready for part 2!!! So much fun. It’s so amazing to think you’re treasuring something that someone thought would be discarded when they passed.
Yes to more estate sale content. In my experience, estate sales can be hit or miss, but the good ones make up for the disappointing ones.
your hair is just IT!!! IVE been watching you for YEARS and this is the BEST hair ever! they're all great but this just exceeds all hair goals
You should set the times on the retro clocks you buy to important times in your life. What time you and Drew each were born. Maybe use the hour and minute hands to represent month and day for days somehow. It'd be a cute little hidden easter egg in your home.
Yes. Loving you trying new things! Sun city sounds so cool!
You can find the best home decor at estate sales! Would love to see more videos like this!!
Love a good estate sale! When my fiancé & I moved into our house, i was at estate sales almost every weekend looking for tools, decor, & other things first time home owners might need. They really are hit or miss but it’s a great feeling when you find the gems that you need
