  • Demonstrating how you can boil water with a canvas hat. I use a re-purposed canvas hat
from Realdealbrazil.com. I have done a review on their hats in a past video and I mentioned I used it to boil water. This is the long lost video of that event I was asked to post.

I can't imagine what sort of ultimate Murphy fest would require me to do that, but it's good to know that it can be done. If you only need hot water for washing it might not be too bad. The water would have no parasites, but the sweat, grime and ashes that would need filtering out really makes it a super hard sell. Without filtration you could wind up drinking a really weak form of soap. Any resulting diarrhea would only make any dehydration worse. I'll use this video as inspiration to make every effort to prevent ever needing to boil water in my hat. For that it earns a thumbs up.

Nice video, no damage to the hat at all, that is why they could use birch bark containers this way. Great stuff

Nice to see this done. I was just reading about this method in my bushcraft book yesterday. Good work.

Been meaning to try this and I like the way you did it way better than having to dig out a log. What was the taste test like?

You know, brother, you can boil water in a nalgene bottle in a fire...

A steel one. It's okay to pour hot water into a plastic Nalgene, it's not good to expose it to open flames, nasty chemicals get released. Of course, as always, it's your funeral.

But what is it worth not learning what you can do if you do not have one?
