That's a neat statistic......but who was the best team 2014 again? Neither the german players nor the german coaching team were bragging about how your team was taken apart. Why be such a bad loser?
Wolfgang Ritter Indeed! 'Die Mannschaft' even tried to help the Brazilian Team (even tho' that was kind of impossible). The best thing which happened during the game was Schürle's 2nd goal (7:0), because it actually was really good and that spawned the very nice reactions of the fans and they (Brazilian fans) saw that they (Mannschaft) were better THAT DAY!
No doubt about it. That power showed mercy, contrary to a Brazil who played against little Tahiti one year before despite Tahiti has not a strong league, footballistic tradition and neither population. Thus we can say Germany was very merciful towards Brazil by scoring less than 10, despite they were the strongest team in the world and after acknowledging how weak Brazilian football had turned. They decided to show strength but not to the point of mocking them which would have been something above 9 goals.
Germany just stop the onslaught because they respected Brazil. Only this saved the Brazilians fans from seeing their team getting more goals (at least 10 and I'm not trolling or making fun). The way the Germans performed in that game was absolutely outstanding.
It was actually the trainer who reminded the players to show some more respect to their hosts and not completely destroy them after the first half. And he did well with that, for the winning team it doesn't matter that much with how many goals they'd win but for the losing team every counter goal hurts more and more and undermines the teams moral.
germany won against algeria. everyone talked about algeria. germany won against brazil. everyone talked about brazil. germany won against argentina. everyone talked about messi. it's almost as if germany doesn't exist, as far as the world is concerned. come on people, germany is not a natural phenomenon, give some credit where it due. these teams fell apart because they played against germany. it takes a lot to make it look that easy of a win.
It is still going on. It seems, only the English Premier, the Spanish league exist but not the Bundesliga. As usual, the bigotry against Germany exist in many ways in Football. I bet you, the 2016 European Soccer Championship in France will prove the same thing. They will only talk about the world-class footballers and teams of France, Spain, Italy, England and Portugal but not Germany. What else is new.

I'm brazilian and I can say I was feeling exactly the same. It seemed like they just opened all the way to the brazilian team make that goal, 'cause the Brazil just couldn't approximate to the Germany goal until that time. Gentlemen attitude.
tmmphono to be honest I don't think Germany let Brazil score on purpose. Neuer really wanted to have a clean sheet. You could see it in his face after Oscar scored. In the end it didn't really matter but Neuer still looked angry. The reason the Seleção could score is that Germany got a bit careless after leading 7 - 0 when there wasn't much time left anyway. They wanted to make it 8 - 0 and opened too much. At least that's my opinion about it. Germany are ruthless when it comes to scoring. Just ask Saudi Arabia. They have shown sportmanship after the match and tried to comfort Brazil. But while the match was still running they wanted to treat them as an opponent and not as someone who needs mercy.Sorry for the late response but I just found this video.
Alldressedup100 Hm, not really. www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/worldcup2014/article-2686789/Mats-Hummels-says-Germany-pledge-half-time-not-humiliate-Brazil-World-Cup-semi-final.html I've read this in multiple papers during the last months. No idea if this is genuine or not, but chances are high that this is true.
the german team could have humilitatet the brasilian team even more in the second half, but Jogi Löw, the german trainer, didn´t want to humiliate the brasilians, because they were a perfect host for the german team.
Why is Germany not talked about when they win? When I was I kid watching football, I always used to hear about Brazil, Spain, Portugal, Argentina Italy and England, but NEVER about Germany, why? I started watching football regularly in 2015 and I was SHOCKED to know Germany had 4 world cups, I thought it was one of these countries where the sport is present but not that much hype around it and is successful in other fields (like Japan) but then I was like "wtf how can something be so giant yet still be unseen?!"
Honestly, I am kind of stunned that you didn't know...what are you, American? Germany is one of the big football nations. Granted, especially the Brits dislike it when we win.

to call Oezil, Khedira, Boateng, Miroslav Klose Nazis is a really good joke. At least the Germans gave Spain total respect, when they were defeated by them in 2008 and 2010. Thats the difference...
Are you nuts? Khedira, Boateng were born in Germany. How is it any different from people immigrating to countries, applying for their citizenships in their new respective countries and playing different sports for their new country of citizenship?
Imagine you didnt watch the game and all you know about it you saw in this news report. After 7 minutes you got a detailed analysis of how the Brazilians might feel now, but if you didnt listen very closely you wouldnt know who they lost to
This is what I say,all the teams have individuals like Messi or Neymar but they forget that Germany plays as a team that's why they are the best, because they work not sunbathing
Say what you want but germans own in pretty much anything. My fateher said from the 1st game of theirs that they gonna win, they had a team, they never lose morale and they put team first not solo goals....just look at their goals, almost each is returning ball from waht is 90%chance to the guy that has 95%.....many players would take those shots.....i really wanted netherlands to win, or at least be in finals with germany, they deserved it.......
wow a BBC-Video about a german victory in football. I was quite naive to not expect any racist anti-German comments from Brits stillt living in the 1940s ...
4:45 'So, at least they're feeling guilty' blablabla! That's why i hate England and the english media so much. Germany treated Brazil very nicely. This should have been a double digit victory. Everyone except the substition players stopped playing at 5:0. Even the brazilian goal was a gift.
Schwansteiger was so loaded just like Klose, Muller and Podolski that they could easily score at least 2 or three more, The whole team was perfectly oiled'. The Brazilian goal Brazilians themselves know it was because of what Joachim Löw told the team in the showers. He's known for telling the boys to lower the intensity on several teams like Israel against which they and other European powers when travel there for the qualifying rounds always end up with a tie. Today Germany is suffering because it has not tall and fast defenders like Mertesacker and because it has not a striker of the class of Klose. Tony Kroos is the perfect midfielder but a midfielder cannot take the whole team on his back as it happened in Russia 2018, new talents have to be found. With regard the British media, the British themselves hate it because they know who controls it and because it always goes against of at least half of the population, just like in anywhere else.
It is one of these onesided rivalries. The uk despises germany but germany doesnt really care. For them England vs. germany is a big Match for germany it is nothing special
@@Ruchsacksepp Exactly. Even with the recent state of German international football and their loss to England in the Euros, the Germans don't consider the English a real competitor for the titles and medals. The reason for that is quite obvious.
The UK is obsessed with WWII there is not a day without an old black and white film about WWII as well as countless documentaries, even on shows like Flog it there is always a mention of the war. Just get over it and move on, the rest of the world has so why cant the UK?
After seeing their opener vs Croatia, I wanted Brazil to go out early. Knew they didn't have a good enough team and in today's game, one player up front (Neymar) and one at the back (Thiago Silva) will not get you a world title. Any other world cup with this team, they'd be out in the 2nd round. Germany showed the world how out of depth Brazil were, and I enjoyed every second of the drumming. Not even FIFA refs could get them out of this mess

The mystique of the yellow shirt felt by the Brazilian players and fans wasn't intimidating to Germany. I think the Brazilian players believed that along with hosting, the result was just a formality. The arrogance shown by the players psychologically put them out of the game before it started. This result will hurt for all time. The difference between this team and teams of the past was obvious. The quality wasn't there and neither was the "team" concept. Brazil needs to get off their high horse and take a lesson from Germany and how they revamped their entire football academies. You can't just put on a yellow shirt and expect the opponent to capitulate.
i still feel bad for how we beat the most lovely country and hosts to us. they treated us as friends and we left them devasteted. ok it was sport, but thank you again brazil for the love you gave us with your kindness.
You shouldn't feel bad. It wasn't the Germans being mean. The Brazilian defence was terrible that day, virtually non-existent. I remember watching the game on TV on a cold New Zealand winter morning, and couldn't believe what I was seeing.
This was un-be-liev-able! I did actually enjoy the match up to goal no. 3, then thought "what´s wrong with the Brasilians???" and I startetd to get scared with goal no.5. I thought there might be riots right inside the stadium. Second half, I was wondering... no, I felt respect for the Brasilian team, because they didn´t just leave the pitch, giving up. I would have preferred to see some Brasilian Magic... After all, I think a humiliation like this one can be used as a chance to change tactics. You can see, Arg was beaten 4:0 in 2010 by Germany. This time they were much better. They had no defense in 2010. This time they did a good job. Greetings from Germany
I remember watching that match, I got up to get something to drink and when I came back they scored again! I honestly thought it was a replay until I noticed the score...
That game didn't happened randomly . It was the result of 10 years of hard work by german federation with youth programs, Initiated by Jürgen Klinsmann. In 2004 german football was in total decay. With a national side unable to compete decently and offer enjoyable games to watch. Federation with the help former great player like bierhoff hrusbesh. Decided to make a revolution : less bulky players , in favour of faster and more technical players (Götze schurrle Müller ) more ethnical diversity. (Ozil khedira gundogan. .) A lot of room left to national coach to plan organise build his team play style..so yeah congratulations germany for that impressive achievement.
You just got to admire the politeness and nuance of this sports reporter. I really enjoy the calmity of this Interview. It s not so emotionally charged and very interesting. This guy could do real journalism.

I remember that day well. Two friends and I were at Fat Tuesday's on Mill Ave in Tempe, AZ. I'm not a soccer fan, but my two friends were, they'd hyped up how great Brazil was, how it was going to be the best World Cup in history. I remember there being a good amount of Brazilian fans, which was surprising considering I rarely meet Brazilians in Arizona. I watched this entire match with everyone, saw the shock and awe on their faces. The surprise, the rage, the bitterness, the embarrassment, and finally, their submission and resentment. I remember the tears, the players on TV crying, my friends in utter disbelief. This might be hard to believe, but despite the temperature being over 100 degrees, that day here in the desert... I could taste Brazilian tears in the air all the way from South America. It was like being near the ocean and knowing because of the salt in the air. I couldn't get the taste out of my mouth for days, it was like their tears lingered in my sinuses. It became my favorite flavor hence forth. I hear or see anything Brazil-related, and my mouth waters. It's a true delicacy. It's like being able to absorb the soul of a nation. My God, I just drooled a little. Pardon me.
thanks to all the gringos, q know you love football of Brazil just as I could not believe it and you're sorry for what happened! I only ask that respect germany she was deserving, great staff and great people that do not deserve to be stigmatized by the errors of crazy man who was not German! Most of the german audience at home stopped cheering after the third goal. I watched the game from Home. First goal insane cheering. Second goal very insane cheering. Third goal normal chearing. 4th Goal calm cheering. 5th Goal no Cheering. The people from germany where also shocked after the game and most of them all felt very sry and wished that Germany had stopped attacking the brazilians.
Funny how that differs per match. I'm dutch and when we beat Spain 5-1 I cheered louder every goal. But ofcourse we had a score to settle from the worldcup 2010
@suckieduckie *"I disagree, I think it's common decency to stop humiliating the host nation."* What is the greater humiliation, shooting goals or no goals? I understand and respect your opinion, but in the second half-time simply stop to shoot goals in order not to humiliate the opponent, do nothing and let the time run out, I feel as even greater humiliation. So I found it more respectful to score more goals and 7 goals are not too much.
I was 14 back then, the best game I have ever seen. And I admire the Brazilian Fans for applauding us. I mean, football wise it was a master class, so them applauding shows that they really love that game. I just wished I could rebuild my connection with football like it was when I was a child
Words like 'humiliation', 'embarrassment' and 'obliterated' generally do not help to address the situation. How did they describe the 3-0 loss to the Netherlands?

Robson Gama Reis, who cares about the u17 world cup? :D The only important one is the world cup. And there Germany was more often in the final and semi finals. But Brazil has more titles. So the future will show, who will be the greatest Football nation ever
I guess in 4 years, we will see a completely different Brazilian team, as the match overobviously showed the need for changes. And those changes will certainly be made. Germany was taught a similar lesson, when they failed to survive the Euro group stage in 2004. From that time on, Germany reformed the Nationalmannschaft. 2014 showed the result :) I wish the Brazilian team to recoverd from that, and find back to old strength (okay..not strong enough to beat Germany in the next WC, should those two nations meet again. Sorry, but I will remain a little bit selfish on that one ;) )
***** do not judge a nation by 3 or 4 people! the alemnha was always a great selection and we recognize this, do not try to compare Brazil with germany, cuz there is no comparison! I was very happy with the victory of Germany so do not talk to me! gets the hint, so less talk about others but aje the same way!
***** I'm sorry if I was a bit harsh! not be offended just wanted to tell you that people love germany q further here in Brazil we have many German colonies and descendants also, think the German smarter and gentle people, and we the world thanks you, I get upset when someone talks ill of you who are still highly stigmatized, more is pure ignorance! I'm sorry for bad English rsrsr, kisses from Brazil
Yepp, we want Brazil to be stronger again. That also implies that it was well worth it, if a game is still won! A humiliation is interesting to watch, but not often so a tough game is quite more interesting. That's why I think the Final with only 1 goal was thrilling! Oh and in the end... We are still one world and one species, so no need to be against each other. :)
I probably ought to start by saying that I've never liked watching Brazil (can I really like fussball?)but this has to be one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen unfold on a fussball pitch! I turned on, well into the match and when I saw the score was 5:0, I thought I was seeing things. I particularly love it when football mad nations get a good hiding. It's only a (multi billion pound) bloody game, after all. Oh, I'm "English" by the way!
The Brazilians should know that football is not a property of any nation. when Germany lost to Brazil in 2002 world cup finals it was accepted. The Germans learn a lesson and proceed to build their team for the future to them good results.
The Germans didn't really have high expectations in 2002. Everyone knew that the team was woeful and only ended up in the finale through sheer dumb luck. We appreciated the fighting spirit of our team but we knew that Brazil was better. 2006 is another matter. I think the Germans will never quite forgive Argentina and Italy for this one.
All the german football fans loves the brazilans........the way they celebretaing football......they always had the best players of the world. I think the german players had so much respet of the brazil people, so they stop celebreatig too much !!
Yep it was obvious Germans at end felt almost sorry for Brassl. There was no real joy in their victory and German players actually tried to condole Brazilians. It was just too much.
They felt so sorry they held back in the second half, they could've easily hit the double digits. And not only that, they gave a goal to Brazil for free to appease the humiliation a little bit 😂
From the few games I watch of Brazil before that match, they showed weakness. I knew from the way they played in the group stages and quarterfinals that they are not going far. Lucky for them, FIFA gave them a free pass to the quarterfinals with Columbia while other teams fought it out in the round of 16. I was cheering against Brazil because of that and I got my wish in the end. Germany is a very powerful team that team USA could one day play like under Klinsmann coaching. Although I was cheering for Germany to beat Brazil, I am hoping Argentina can win the World Cup in the end for America.
So Brazil did not have to fight... in the round of 16... against Chile,... who had previously beaten and sent home reigning World Champions Spain,... and who put up a huge fight for 120 minutes... hitting the bar in the 119th... And FIFA gave Brazil a free pass... by making them play a team from Group B... which apart from Chile contained the Netherlands and Spain as well... Congratulations, that might just be the single most stupid comment anyone has ever made...ever!
***** Well considering in 2010 Brazil had beaten Chile 3-0 or 3-1, unless Chile had suddenly got to the same level as Brazil in 4 years, Brazil shouldn't have needed penalties to beat them.
0:06 Not "one" of the most humiliating defeats... *THE* most humiliating defeat ever by FAR! Nothing will ever come close to this. Not only in football. This was the worst defeat for a team, club or country, in sports history. And I fucking love it.
2014 germany win wc,2018 germany lost in stage 0-2 south korea..who win wc,next wc maybe out first..waiting 2022 in qatar..france out first in stage group..look and see
This is ridiculous, how can a team as good as Brazil go to the semi final and lose 7-1 in their own back yard. Brazil clearly shouldn't have been in the semi finals. I can think of at least 1 other team who would have made a better opponent for Germany.
The only thing I can compare it to as an American is the 1940 NFL championship game (this was before the Super Bowl) where Chicago beat Washington 73-0
It was seen at the opening game of tournament when Brasil played against Croatia, how bad the Brasil team looked and played. If there was normal ref in the opening game Brasil would off lost the game against the Croatia
I remember when italy bbeat us 2:0 in 2006 we hated the italian team and (at least) italian footballers in general. Brasil was such a humble and gracious loser- it was really leading by example imo
Can we have a proper debate about England dubious victory in '66? The anti South American bias by referees was so obvious. Pele receiving no protection from classless brutal violent defending was shameful. Beckham and Rooney's red cards in later tournaments and hand of god is by perfect measure karmic retribution.
+lilbrothaaa Shock vs. Constant pressure. Brazil's defender Dante who's playing in Germany still didn't recover from that. He was sold by Bayern and now plays for Wolfsburg which is a decline from high international standard to an average national one (while the German Bundesliga is pretty poor besides Bayern and Dortmund)

where has British sportmanship gone? there was just one remark about the German team at all, and that came only after more than 6 minutes … thats disrespectful and certainly unfair (comment of a German)
5 of the goals conceded were just down to extremely poor defending from Brazil. In reality it should be 2-1, Brazil on the day were just AWFUL. Germany were very good on the day.

Norman Anderson Seemingly the coach told them during the half time break to not make more goals for 2 reasons: 1. We should save our strength for the next game and 2. We do not want to overdoe it and humiliate the host country. The story goes that Schürle (who made goal no. 6 and 7 in the second half) was on the toilet and did not hear Löw's directive to slow it down. I think its a good story. :)
btw. even if it does not look like: Brazil was more successful as it appears. since 2002 they never got it managed again to reach the semi final. this time they did - at least ...
According to German media, the coach of the German team Joachim 'Jogi' Löw told his players at half time not to deepen the total humiliation of the Brazilian team simply by refraining from scoring any additional goals, except that Schürrle (who scored two more goals in the second half) was at the restroom 🚻 at that time and didn't hear Löw's instruction. True or not, who knows after this crazy game?
Germany had a team, other countries had individual players. People really need to respect Germany as a footballing nation more considering what they have achieveed
For me Football is about the Fans, the culture around it. And on this day Brasil showed that its truly the greatest, unironically. I felt no anger or hostility towards me as german fan, Zero, none at all. Just sadness, no hate. Respect. Greetings
yes all germans wished that brazil can shoot just 1 "honor"-goal. and i guess the trainer told the team at first half break, not to shoot them 10-0 out :D and i agree with nico_0422.

Why judge an entire country based on its media?
Selina89 Thanks, i love britain btw.
She says "So at least they WON'T be feeling guilty about it"
German coach Löw said in an interview that he ordererd his players to slow down in his half time speech in order to save energy for the finals.

I watch that game occasionally just to watch the crowd molt as the match progresses. Pride, woe, gloom, doom, then the turn to cheering Germany.

Guys, I love Brazil! You have passion, great culture and nice people. Love from Germany
Eu sou brasileiro e confeço que estas duas seleções devem ser bastante respeitadas. Na minha opinião, Alemanha, Brasil e Holanda quatro vezes vice campeão do mundo em copas.
Pardon me.
Germany play perfect they are a Team!
Neuer was sooooooo good.
Creative Destruction (Schumpeter). They will rise from the ashes, driven by passion. And we still love the Brasilians.
This is the new Germanys Power :)
I believe the best players always win, it doesn't matter where from, it's hard in your home land but Brazil surprised us many times before
They should have scored 12-0.

Most of the german audience at home stopped cheering after the third goal. I watched the game from Home. First goal insane cheering. Second goal very insane cheering. Third goal normal chearing. 4th Goal calm cheering. 5th Goal no Cheering.
The people from germany where also shocked after the game and most of them all felt very sry and wished that Germany had stopped attacking the brazilians.
was bist du für ein verweichlichter Schwanz ?
Funny how that differs per match. I'm dutch and when we beat Spain 5-1 I cheered louder every goal. But ofcourse we had a score to settle from the worldcup 2010
Don't have mercy on your opponent because your opponent will not have mercy on you. The unwritten rule of football.
I disagree, I think it's common decency to stop humiliating the host nation
@suckieduckie *"I disagree, I think it's common decency to stop humiliating the host nation."*
What is the greater humiliation, shooting goals or no goals? I understand and respect your opinion, but in the second half-time simply stop to shoot goals in order not to humiliate the opponent, do nothing and let the time run out, I feel as even greater humiliation.
So I found it more respectful to score more goals and 7 goals are not too much.
I was 14 back then, the best game I have ever seen. And I admire the Brazilian Fans for applauding us. I mean, football wise it was a master class, so them applauding shows that they really love that game. I just wished I could rebuild my connection with football like it was when I was a child

2014 showed the result :)
I wish the Brazilian team to recoverd from that, and find back to old strength (okay..not strong enough to beat Germany in the next WC, should those two nations meet again. Sorry, but I will remain a little bit selfish on that one ;) )

Lest we forget on 8/7 The historic defeat of the Brazilian samba at the hands of the German machines in the Sevens

2:02 - In 1966 there was nothing for England to be proud of!
Steve Sackur should have took over fully from Paxman, he would have been the perfect successor because hes great on HARDTalk.

Seemingly the coach told them during the half time break to not make more goals for 2 reasons: 1. We should save our strength for the next game and 2. We do not want to overdoe it and humiliate the host country.

The win was the result of Jürgen Klinsmanns hard work as a coach.
