Hi Akshee, Thank you for such a detailed and helpful video. Do you have any tips for securing a biometric + interview slot for a J1 visa at the current time, I haven't seen any slots showing up for over a week now? Thanks!
Hi. Thanks for the video which was really helpful. Have a question. Do you need a hard copy of the DS 2019 or will a pdf suffice? My TPL is not sure about it.
Hello akshe. Thank you so much for the detailed video. It was very helpful! While booking for emergency appointment they are asking for tentative travel date. Now in ds 160 I mentioned it as the start date of the program ( mentioned in my ds2019). Should that be the tentative travel date ?
You can go to US a month prior to start date. I wrote tentative date as a month before because my program wanted me to be here for orientation and other things.
Hey Bryan! Yes, GC holders have wider range of programs to apply and thus, higher chances of matching. 1. Some residency programs don’t offer visa. 2. Even the ones that offer visa, prefer a candidate who doesn’t require one because of the uncertainty. 3. As a GC holder, you have more opportunities to find research positions, or Health care related jobs in US which improves your profile. There might be other reasons as well but these are the top ones that I can think of right now.
Hey! I mentioned in the letter to email the SoN to ECFMG. They emailed ECFMG and cc’ed me in the email. It’s always better to ask. Whether it’s done or not depends on the govt. officials working there.
Hello doctor, after we change from J1 visa to H1B does the rules of J1 we signed for like home country return will be still applicable on us or only the new visa rules will be applicable ?
Hi Akshee My date of programme start on DS-2019 is 15 july 2021 and the form is yet to reach to me, it may reach here after some days. What I wanted to ask is what do I put in the intended date of arrival ? My programme start date has already passed. With the covid situation around if the employer in US would have kept the date of start in august even, still I could not have managed to arrive in august as it it gonna take a lot of time for VISA approval and travel.
Hi, what if you have done your MBBS from india but you are a citizen from another country say Canada but you are an OCI( overseas citizen of india) card holder which is issued by the GOI, do you apply for the J1 visa from india( because after your residency you wish to work in india) or do you apply the J1 from canada??
@@AksheeBatra Thank you so much for this info , if possible please upload a video regarding this procedure as there are many person's like me searching for this.
Student from any medical college in India can match in USMLE. I have many friends from different colleges in different states who applied for usmle and matched this year.
Hey! Thank you for your comment. I realise than it’s unclear in the video about what I wanted to convey. I wanted to talk about what to enter in duration of program as residency is 3/4 years but J1 is issued for one year. DS 2019 usually states your last date as 1 year because J1 visa is issued for 1 year. I initially had confusion whether to fill 1/ 3 year. I completely agree the form asks for date of arrival and not departure date.
Yeah I figured that's what you meant. There's a question"intended date of arrival" before "intended length of stay in the US". My understanding is it is "start date of the program" as entered in the DS 2019. So I was a little confused. :-)
Very informative, thank you!

You definitely need the hard copy. They’ll need to send it via mail. My program sent me a scanned copy initially followed by physical one.

hi, thank you for this helpful video. Should every gap (small or big) be discussed in ecfmg cv for j1?
I would say the big ones definitely, if you were doing something. It doesn’t matter much though.
Hi Akshee; Can you prepare a video on commonly asked visa interview questions? (for J1 clinical visa interview) Thanks!
Sure Bharat!

How long is this j1 visa valid. How can we renew the visa. Do we need to come back for renewal. Please reply.
It can be renewed in any country except USA, the duration depends on your luck, most get one year, some peeps get 3 year visa

Yes! Statement of need is possible without med license in India. I don’t know the process though but I have friends who applied and got one this year.
