Yes, but make sure you know the difference as guys are really picky on it. They are software lockers which means the software of the Exy simulates real lockers. So the best way to say it is Software lockers as it doesn’t have true mechanical lockers. The good thing is the software does an excellent job and acts and feels the same.

Hi Jack. Thanks! Mostly for me its been a lot of trial and error over the last few years as nobody could help me. So, since then I want to help others with their Expeditions because these rigs are great off road and can haul a lot and be super fun! In fact, many guys are now turning them into supreme off road overland rigs. Stay tuned for more videos! And if you have any questions you can of course ask here or on the website via email and I will do my best to help. www.1LifeLive.com !
Hi Jack. Is your 04 Expedition a 4x4? If so then of course you can. Check your manual and read about Control Trac to see if you have it. I also have a video on Control Trac that explains it. Then over time you can slowly do things to your SUV to make it even more of an off road rig. Good tires are usually the first upgrade or 17" wheels and good tires. Two examples are BFG KO2s 10 ply or Nitto Ridge Grapplers. Both are T/A tires. Feel free to ask any questions here on youtube or you can find my email on the Contact page on my website www.1LifeLive.com ;-)
Hi Jack most Expedition 4x4 with Control Trac are all open differentials. Some were special ordered before 2007 with Limited Slip. However once Control Trac is engaged, the center differential is locked which then helps to simulate or mimic front and rear lockers even if you have an open differential as it is software driven. Here is the link to my video explaining how the 2007 and up works and it is very similar to years before 2007 ua-cam.com/video/WYJYMFClJcw/v-deo.html Basically if you checked your manual for Control Trac it should explain how it locks your front and rear wheels, just like lockers do and it should explain how to utilize Control Trac. If you do have it, putting it in 4x4 Lo should engage it and sometimes its engaged instantly and sometimes the tires need to slip a few seconds then it engages. Hope that helps explain it for you and again the video explains further: ua-cam.com/video/WYJYMFClJcw/v-deo.html
Hi Eric. I like to overland and explore and I do not really have an interest in rock climbing with a 4x4 so the Jeep was out, just not large enough for me. I usually have multiple people with me, a large dog, lots of tools, equipment, water, food and off road equipment so I needed a large rig. The Ford Expeditions wheelbase is not too large, just a few inches longer than the 4 door Jeep but holds twice as much as the Jeeps and twice as powerful. The 4x4 Expeditions with Advance Trac and Control Trac off road 4x4 software systems basically mimic having front and rear lockers (yes the Ford Expedition 4x4 system is excellent). To make a really long story really short..., I have been able to climb every hill that my friends have climbed (many having Jeeps with lockers, Hummers, etc) and I did not have to spend a dime on the 4x4 system. All you really need to do is add skid plates, add a little 3" suspension lift and good tires and that is about it. 35" tires would be about the largest you would want to go. Have fun!
I have a 2015 Expedition EL with a 2WD system with traction control. I was wondering where can I get 17 inch wheels that would fit on my Expedition EL? Can a 3 inch readylift be enough lift to fit 35 inch tires? Great video👍👍👍👍👍👍.
Lincoln Towncar Hello and thanks! All you need is about a 2” lift for 35” tires. In fact that’s all I had at first for about a year and it was just fine. I used 2014-2015 Ford Raptor wheels found used on ebay for about $400 each. Not sure the measurements. Of course there are many places that can measure your existing wheels and find you a 17” wheel too with correct back spacing to clear your brakes. 😊👍
1LifeLive Thank you so much 1lifelive. You are very helpful.👍👍👍👍👍👍I checked out stage 3 motorsports and they have a 3" readylift for my Expedition EL. Hi Marshallrc79, that roof rack is the Yakima Warrior with ext. You can see all the latest specs on my website on the Rig Specs page at www.1LifeLive.com
Hey...., in this video it is around 74" L x 48" W x 6" rails. However I just added another 22" ext so now in the newest vids it is 96" long. It has held up nicely. Hope that helps you out.
Thanks for the info! I'm trying to get back into the expedition life again and was wondering if the Expedition would be a viable off road rig due to it's size.
Hello Rich. It has almost the same wheelbase as the 4 door Jeep (the Jeep is only 2" shorter), so size is not an issue. It is an excellent explorer overland rig. I would only buy one though if it comes with Advance Trac 4x4 System which has Control Trac automatically which is the 4x4 system that mimics full time lockers. The only reason NOT to get this rig is if you want to do massive rock crawling with rocks 3ft and larger in size. Buy a Jeep for that and then you also need to spend about 30+k for upgrades. All you will need to do for the Expedition is slap on 35s, maybe trim some plastic (inner mud flaps) and buy $100 spacers to place on top of the shocks to raise it about 3.5". After you do that you have one awesome rig with massive room. You can check out what I slowly did over time at my website on the spec page www.1LifeLive.com

Hello, so far, awesome! However it is not a Jeep with 40" tires and expensive tall suspension. The Ford Expedition off road handles like Land Rovers, Hummers, and Jeeps with 35" tires. My specs on my rig are on the Rig Spec page at www.1LifeLive.com Hope that helps! :-)
Great videos, you might be one of the very few of who believes that the expedition can perform well off road. I have a 2013 4X4 expedition and I like to drive it in the desert from time to time. Nothing super crazy but honestly I cannot feel the effect of the "E-lockers" front and rear. I do turn off the traction control but I got stuck in the sand where one tire (front and rear) were freely spinning and @ 4LOW without luck. Plus, even ford themselves they do not really advertise this for their vehicle which is a shame if it does really exists. One more thing you mentioned previously that the traction control goes back on -even if you turn it off above 25mph-. The lamp for me is always on unless I turn it off. Last thing, how can I get the software you mention in your video? Thanks in advance
Hello and thanks. Yes I have proved to my friends with Jeeps, Hummers and Land Rovers how good the Expedition does and now they are all believers. Haha. If you have a 4x4 with Control Trac (in your manual) and if you are in 4x4 Lo, the traction control (name is Advance Trac) automatically turns off. So do NOT press the button because it turns off automatically in 4x4 Lo. The only time you have to press the button to turn off traction control is in 4x4 Hi. If slipping in the sand, it might take up to 2 seconds and then Control Trac kicks in and locks the center differential and software locks all 4 tires. If traction is still very bad, all 4 tires will spin with Control Trac on. It should work if you have it on your rig. It has worked every time for me and my friends as the manual shows. :-) Ford did NOT heavily advertise it at the time because they owned Land Rover in the early 2000's, and so they chose to advertise Land Rover instead until they sold it and then they went with their Flagship Truck the Raptor to advertise and they do not want to lose sales with advertising the Expedition which is more of highway use unless you raise it and add larger tires! :-) Yes, if traction control is off (button pressed, light on) and you go above 25 mph some features of it turn back on, however the OFF light will STILL REMAIN glowing if manually pressed because as soon as you drop below 25mph traction control once again is off because you pressed the button. Hello and thanks for the videos. My question is about your suspension. I went to the icon website and found nothing for the expedition. Are you using the F 150 parts? I have an 04 expedition I'm wondering if I could get the same set up just a model older.
Hello John. Yeah, Icon doesn't help Expedition guys much. I wish they did. For Expeditions 2007 to around 2015, F150 front end part years that match are 2009-2014. So my guess would be your 2004 would match up to F-150 parts 2004-2008. Good luck and update me about your build! :-)
I like the looks of your truck, I really love the Expedition but I could never live with that front upper control arm ball joint angle, with those strut spacers I would pick out a truck that I can put a proper lift on. That is just me, it throws off the geometry of your suspension so badly, do do it right you gotta have a uniball and a limiting strap, in the end you are sacrificing all kinds of suspension travel and whatnot, sweet looking truck tho and sounds mean
Hello JC, for the rear I did not cut anything around the front of the wheel well. I did however cut toward the rear bumper simply to have higher angles for going over rocks. I also have 1.25" spacers on the rear. If you do use spacers only use hubcentric and use loctite on the lugs and make sure to torque to 150lbs. Spacers, just like installing wheels, can have issues if not done correctly. For the front I cut out in front and slightly behind the tires for better clearance over rocks and for better approach angles. I simply used a Proxxon rotary tool and wood plastic blade (Dremel EZ544 EZ Lock Wood Cutting Wheel). So with the cutting, it did show the tires more which shows the tire stance more. I did not cut for that reason, however it does make the stance look better. I will be doing a video on cutting the body shortly. Hope that helps.
Hi Derek, thanks. The front is Icon adjustable coilovers which once I adjust them, they give me about 4" over stock. The rear I currently have Rancho Quick lifts along with Daystar spacers, however I am soon installing the same Icon coilovers on the rear too as I will have more travel instead of using the spacers, but they spacers and Ranchos have worked great. I have most the specs on the website, www.1LifeLive.com on the spec page. Hope that answers your question. Take care.
Question.. are the skid plates you have the stick plates that come on the 07 Expedition? What other things were you able to leave stock while building this awesome vehicle? Thanks
Hi Marc, those are Ford Raptor 2015 17" bead lock wheels. Best place to buy them is used on eBay and most sellers guarantee that there is no damage to them, so pick a seller with that guarantee. You will pay about 1/4 the cost of new ones. The beadlock rings then have to be bought also and they come in silver and I painted them dark gray to match (the rings that come with the stock Raptor wheel are called beauty rings and those you have to remove to stick on the beadlock rings, also found on eBay). Hope that helps
Emerson Pendergrass: Hi Emerson. Fronts are Icon coilovers 3" which pushes it around 4" lift and rears are around 3.5" lift. 😊👍 More specs are on www.1LifeLive.com on the Spec page. 👍👍

I just got an expedition. Did you have to cut alot to get a stance out of it?
What size and brand of lift is on your truck it looks good.
Thanks
Where did you get your rims?
Hi Marc, those are Ford Raptor 2015 17" bead lock wheels. Best place to buy them is used on eBay and most sellers guarantee that there is no damage to them, so pick a seller with that guarantee. You will pay about 1/4 the cost of new ones. The beadlock rings then have to be bought also and they come in silver and I painted them dark gray to match (the rings that come with the stock Raptor wheel are called beauty rings and those you have to remove to stick on the beadlock rings, also found on eBay). Hope that helps
What size lift are you running??
Emerson Pendergrass: Hi Emerson. Fronts are Icon coilovers 3" which pushes it around 4" lift and rears are around 3.5" lift. 😊👍 More specs are on www.1LifeLive.com on the Spec page. 👍👍
