Nice work, Cliff! You've infected (inspired) another to take up this vice... I set myself a budget of about $1000 to get started and ordered a machine, laps, backing plate, rough, polish with a copper lap, dops, and etc. Looks like it'll be fun, but my dogs won't work cheap, so I don't know what I'll do there... I hope you don't mind me emulating your techniques and with habits. I think your a good teacher! Thanks for inspiring me to try something new!
Hi KingLoopie1, Welcome to the world of gem cutting. Be patient, be prepared for failure at times, but once you get the knack of faceting you will never look back. Happy faceting.....
@@VintageTimeGems Cliff, thanks for the warm welcome and all of your effort with these videos! We have some great rock hounding places here in Colorado and great resources with everything from calcite to diamond (and plenty of leave-r-ite...)! I've worked with my hands all of my life, so I have plenty of experience with failures... But the failures make the triumphs all that much sweeter! Thanks again! /Dave
Hi Cliff, I used a Piece of “ poolNoodle” for a slash guard on the machine at my face thing group. It worked really well and can be custom made for each machine.
All gems are lovely by definition of course, but this one has something special I think. Yes, it sparkles, like most gems do, and very prettily so, but the way it changes colour if the light hits it gives it a little extra in my opinion. Very well done, Cliff, and thanks for sharing!
That is a stunningly beautiful cut, Cliff! Your video comments regarding the crown are really great. I like the notes you keep... mine are not nearly that clear. Fantastic video, my friend. Thank You!!!
Thanks John, this gem looks so much better than on the video. One of my best cuts for a while. Yes, you need good notes. Mine are pretty basic so I can understand what need doing.
Awesome! Sorry if this is a dumb question but how can one get into gemstone faceting? Where do I start and learn? Equipment I should get? Do you have a playlist?
How did you get all those facets evenly cut on the crown as you skip from one side of the crown to cut corresponding facets on the other side? They all came out straight and evenly sized. Also transfering evenly? I am doing an oval and have to leave it because I can't get the crown done. My girdle is not even with the facets on my oval top or bottom. 🤔
Hello, Do you cut and facet stone if someone send to you to cut for them if they don't feel comfortable doing it themselves (like if they are very new at faceting) like if I would ask you to cut and facet a few gemstones how much do you charge? Or would you charge for doing it? Or just use it in a video to see what the stone (s) would be or like. I really would love to know cause me and my mom has alot of sapphire's, emeralds, garnets, and rubies. Which I had bought a scale and the CT's for them rage from 20ct-208ct in their rough form. Please let me know. Thank you.
It’s amazing how you are able to set a program to cut gems like that. And the fact that you were sent that!! Really neat! Thanks for sharing. You must walk around with gems in your teeth!! Hahah

Try to join a gem club. Most gem clubs own a faceting machine and usually there is someone there who will show you how to facet....Cheers

Sry for asking but what is that paste you are using to stick the gem on before you put it on the machine? I'm new to this 😁
Devon two part epoxy.
Can we get high quality images to download from? Any plans for more Opal facets?
