  • In this trip that I managed to squeeze out of a bachelor party weekend, I explore the Joshua Tree National Park and make my way into Berdoo Canyon for some camping just outside the national park gates.
    I wasn’t able to get the time I would have liked to really explore and see what other camp spots I could have found but I still had an amazing time and was able to see some beautiful scenery, some desert wildlife, and just embrace the magic of the desert in the month of June which to my surprise wasn’t as hot as I was expecting. Hope you enjoy the video.

      Thank you sir. Everything has a solid purpose on the build, other than maybe taking the axe with me to the desert this trip but you know what I mean. Might add a water port for my water solution or build a diy pvc one for rinsing off dishes and washing your hands at camp, but other than that I feel pretty happy with it. Oh lastly an awning is necessary for sure.

    Great looking rig man!!
    I have a camper shell and have been highly considering putting a RTT on top of it, but I keep seeing people switch away from that setup to bed racks instead. Does the setup really perform that poorly on the trail with the camper shell+RTT combo?

    • @DirtRoad_Chronicles
      @DirtRoad_Chronicles  11 місяців тому +1

      It really depends on what kind of trails you typically go on. If you wanna do some easy pretty much flat trails with nothing to crazy for obstacles you will be fine. I thing it’s a great setup since you can fit all the gear you want in it and lock it up, and you can customize the inside to your liking in terms of kitchen drawers, fridge slide out, even a little seating area it the weather gets bad while you’re hanging out. But from my experience, going on some tougher trails, still nothing crazy but enough to get you off camber, there’s more of a pucker factor when at those points of a trail. Also the MPGs take a hit on the highway with the wind pulling on the camper shell. That’s my reason for switching to a bed rack setup but recently I’ve been seeing a lot of these GFC, topo toppers and super Pacifics and it looks like this might be the best option. The GFC and topotopper are the lightest on the market and having the tent up top nice and slim keep the wind drag to a minimum and you still have a whole camper shell for your gear. I honestly thing I’ll be switching to that once I could afford it. Which probably won’t be for a few years. That being said, I love he bed rack and RTT setup a lot. Does everything in want it to do, simple, and I can still lock my stuff when I need to.

      @@DirtRoad_Chronicles dude, thanks for the in depth reply! That makes a lot of sense.
      I'm getting about 13MPG now on my 2014 TRD Off-Road on 33's, so going down from there would not be great...haha!
      I'm in Arizona, so most the trails I do are very rutted out, rocky, and put you off camber, not flat trails really. The trails can get pretty gnarly compared to if I was just taking it up camping or something on the highway and a forest road. I'll have to keep thinking if adding the RTT on top of my camper is worth it then, I don't want to be super top heavy.
      The GoFastCampers look so nice! MY brother-in-law just got one and it's sick! Expensive though....

      @@chadwin MPGs hurt a little but it’s something we have to deal with at the end of the day if this is a hobby or lifestyle you wanna live. I did regear my differentials to. 5.29 nitro gears and that’s helped tremendously with MPG. I hear you on the coat on the GFC which personally I would go with the TopoTopper because it’s more customizable from the factory and it’s a smaller company which I like. They’re about the same price, maybe GFC is a bit more depending on how much you want to mod the topotopper, and if you add the price of a good RTT and solid bed rack, you’re not too far from the total price of a Topotopper. I feel like if I would have been a bit more patient I probably would have waited a bit longer before getting my bed setup now and got the TopoTopper.

      I’m not sure but it could be. Could also be from people going up and down after the rainy season just getting washed out like that or people getting stuck and spinning wheels. Either way I was able to go up and down with no issues, wish i would have recorded the way up. It was more exciting than the way down.

      @DirtRoad_Chronicles  7 місяців тому

      So you need to pay to enter Joshua Tree National park in a vehicle which is mandatory for this trail since 80% of it is inside the national park.

    what version of the DA lights did you get? I see three different ones on the DA website.

    • @DirtRoad_Chronicles
      @DirtRoad_Chronicles  10 місяців тому

      Since I got 8 total I went with the cheapest option and honestly they didn’t disappoint… yet. Only thing I noticed about these specifically is that the mounting hardware they give you for them rust out almost immediately, so if I would have known I would have given them a coat of black paint or something to try and prevent it. But light output is solid, maybe not as amazing as some Baja designs or heretic but it’s good light for the price.
