My three favorite scenes are the cook getting even, the railroad fight and the bunkhouse fight. Yes you are so right about the heart this movie has. Nobody sits a horse like Monty Walsh
Always enjoyed Selleck's cowboy movies. No matter how many times I've seen one of those films, always hard to turn the channel when I come across one on TV again.
Tom is a fantastic cow hand and a better human being! He truly immerses himself in the rolls and feels it in his soul. Fair winds and calm seas Mr. Tom
I couldn't agree more.... Re-makes are mostly awful. I have gotten to where I appreciate the True Grit re-make however. It's not BETTER than the original, but it stands on it's own merits.
The Sacketts, The Shadow Riders, Quigley, Last Stand at Saber River, Crossfire Trail, Monte Walsh... Selleck has assumed the mantle of the Cowboy, and carries it well.
He also is imitating a character (Monte Walsh) in a manner that totally disregards the actual Monte. Sure, Selleck is a great actor in his own right, but he was given a script that was based on a great novel by Jack Schaefer, and the movie has thrown the book in the trash, and made it the Tom Selleck Show, instead of Monte Walsh. They don't even slightly resemble each other.
True classic. A goodbye to cowboys and classic cowboy movies. We might get a few westerns like it here and there, but the age of this sort of movie is gone - like the cowboys it portrays.
Only two uploads of this wonderful movie? I hate to say it, but folks today just don't have no idea about "the cowboy way".... And how can only 57 people give a thumbs up to a movie with this cast??
Dang! Just enough time to get you investefd and interested, then it leaves you hangin'! Thank you for sharing, but please post the rest of the movie. Thanks!
The entire existence of "Monte Walsh" as a character is based on the magnificent novel by Jack Schaefer (also the author of "Shane") and, as good and entertaining as the movies may be, they are essentially a Butcher Job by the Hollywood Meat-Grinder of the very elaborate and wide scope of the book. It is a shameful and abhorrent destruction of the work of Jack Schaefer, without whom Monte Walsh would never have been available for Hollywood to mangle his bones. BAH !
You're probably right about the book, etc., etc. But most of us wouldn't even have heard of Monte Walsh had the movies not been made. So they served a purpose....
They are Both a hatchet job of the great novel by Jack Schaefer, and bear only a passing resemblance to the real Monte Walsh. The total reinvention of an author's great work is nothing to be proud of. Like making Abraham Lincoln over into a dishwasher on the Titanic. Rubbish.
@@dehoedisc7247 As an old saying goes, "The Book Is The Book, The Movie Is The Movie." I will however say, more often than not The Book is better than The Movie. Both versions of this Movie are Very Good, and well worth the time spent. One man's opinion, freely given and worth ALMOST that much.
Strongly agree, the Selleck version is a wee bit too romanticized, sentimental and hopeful especially the ending while the Marvin one is more stark and realistic.
Are you fucking kidding man ? Lee Marvin fought in the real war in the South Pacific as a Marine and was an unforgettable presence onscreen for decades afterwards. Tom Selleck would be lucky to be permitted to hold the reins of Marvin's horse.
the roping in these scenes ain't too real don't catch much not holding to the rope so you can pull the slack and tighten the rope around the cows neck or the heels. But who am I to argue with HOLLOYWOOD
This movie has more character and heart in 5 minutes than most movies in 2 hours

The race for the outhouse was the best part.

One of the few great remakes.
Tom is a fantastic cow hand and a better human being! He truly immerses himself in the rolls and feels it in his soul. Fair winds and calm seas Mr. Tom
Watched this last night and it never gets old. One of the few remakes that is better than the first.

@@NattyBumppo48 dont ever say that again. lol
This is a real cowboy movies with GREAT actors...Sellick, Corbin, Caradine, Rosselini. It also has an outstanding sound track.
+Ralph Middleton - Ralph, you are exactly correct.
And TEAGUE!!!
The Sacketts, The Shadow Riders, Quigley, Last Stand at Saber River, Crossfire Trail, Monte Walsh... Selleck has assumed the mantle of the Cowboy, and carries it well.

cleekmaker00. Thanks for the title's. I will check them out. I love cowboys movies👍🇺🇸
Yes sir
Great to see someones else has read the book.
These were the days of great western movies with amazing actors.
love this movie! thank you for aploading it.
True classic. A goodbye to cowboys and classic cowboy movies. We might get a few westerns like it here and there, but the age of this sort of movie is gone - like the cowboys it portrays.
This is a movie that dispels the saying you can't make a good remake. See both movies.
The original was a great movie and I seldom like remakes but this, for me, is the exception.
This was a great movie!
I need to see the whole movie, please!!
Hammering a nail in the hardware widow!!! Never heard it said like that before.... Lol
One of the best old west movies I have ever seen in my lifetime. And I ain't a young whippersnapper either.
Only two uploads of this wonderful movie? I hate to say it, but folks today just don't have no idea about "the cowboy way".... And how can only 57 people give a thumbs up to a movie with this cast??
Good movie; but only a shine on the original, sorry.
@@GrumblingGrognard That hurt....lol
Great movie and cast
Well... That tells you my life has been a disaster.
I have never seen this movie.
I'm tempted at times to watch the first movie with Lee Marvin

Reminds of a girl once. Got me started. But no finish
it's a heartache
Good movie. I've never figured out if this is the best version or the original, with Lee Marvin.
Great movie
Great lead in to a great movie
BOTH versions are GREAT!
Ol Tom S was born for Westerns same as ol Sam E.
As said before, where's the whole movie, one of his best!!
If you like this film, you will like The Good Old Boys by Elmer Kelton.
1:34 that store owner sounds like Hosea from Red Dead lmao

Well stated, Jack Schaefer was the antithesis of those such as Louis L'Amour's over romanticized version of the West.
are you done bloviating? I hate self indulgent morons.
I think youtube is a great souce of intertainment and knowledgement.
Where is the rest of the movie.
When you want to watch a movie in full you don't want to keep seeing previews and no movie
Tom is very good but he doesn't hold a candle to Lee Marvin
There is already CC with UA-cam. The unsolicited CC is ANNOYING. Therefore thumbs down on this clip. It was however a great movie !
Bellissimo film peccato non lo mandano in onda da tanto tempo
IM a lAwYeR😮🎻
THE FIRST MONTE WALSH WAS THE BEST
From the start, you know that the writers of this film have no interest in authenticity. "Wyoming Territory, 1892?" Wyoming became a state in 1890.
great movie different than the 1970 lee Marvin version but just every bit as good if not better in my opinion ...

This version was ok, but personally I preferred the Lee Marvin version.

@@brianboisguilbert6985 Especially as one gets older; I am now 66, I feel more empathy for the older cowboys in the movie.
Same thing all over again except this time Ted Turner, the government and wealthy Ca folks own most of Montana.
I'll say one thing, he have a great surname.
How accurate can a film really be if it claims that a "Wyoming Territory" existed in 1892?
lee marvin couldnt tote. Tom Sellecs dinner bucket. !!
You posted an eight-word sentence with eight errors in it.
I think that disqualifies you from criticizing ANYONE in ANY WAY about ANYTHING.
Lee Marvin's talent was so great that you would have to stand on your grandmother's shoulders just to kiss his ass.
