I lived in Paris for many years, and was surprised to find that it was the norm for the people that I worked with/ for/ lived near. Perhaps it came with wealth, and a feeling of superiority/ entitlement/ a disregard for the "normal" societal rules many (most?) try to live by and adhere to. These people were considered to be the upper echelons of society. (I don't particularly like class systems but they do exist - like it or not.) I didn't expect it to be that way. I'm speaking from my personal experience, and what I witnessed during my many years there. It is obviously not the case in EVERY situation, but I knew of it happening far more than I ever believed it would. As I mentioned, it may have just been the quality of those people. I have thought a great deal about the quality of their personhood. Infidelity can happen anywhere on the planet, and with anyone. I'm not suggesting that it only happens in France. I also lived in various regions of Italy for several years - and found it to be the norm there, too. I lived in Tokyo for 20 years - it absolutely exists more than it doesn't exist there. Maybe it is this way everywhere on the planet. I don't know. I haven't lived everywhere, and I certainly don't know everyone, nor their personal value system and the details of their personal/ intimate relationships.

It is obviously not the case in EVERY situation, but I knew of it happening far more than I ever believed it would. As I mentioned, it may have just been the quality of those people. I have thought a great deal about the quality of their personhood.
Infidelity can happen anywhere on the planet, and with anyone. I'm not suggesting that it only happens in France. I also lived in various regions of Italy for several years - and found it to be the norm there, too. I lived in Tokyo for 20 years - it absolutely exists more than it doesn't exist there.
Maybe it is this way everywhere on the planet. I don't know. I haven't lived everywhere, and I certainly don't know everyone, nor their personal value system and the details of their personal/ intimate relationships.
I did not mean to be insulting to the people of France. With the exception of a just a few, I really loved ALL of the people that I met there. I was treated with such warmth and kindness everywhere I went. (This part of my experience was in direct contrast to what I had heard/ was expecting.) I have huge amounts of love, and good memories for 98% of the people that I met there. Perhaps that is why learning about those that I held in such high esteem was disappointing. It's not my place to judge. I try to remind myself that I am not in their marriages, nor long term commitments. I do not know their personal agreements/ arrangements. I suspected that some of the partner's knew about the other, and some were kept in the dark.
I am speaking strictly from observation/ personal experience. Another person may go to France, live and work there, as I did, and never see this. Their experience would be entirely different. Perspective/ awareness is everything; as is socialization of the individual.
+Hollins23 No I didn't feel insulted but I just thought you were saying that from what you heard, because that cliché does exist so it annoys me when people affirm things like that about a country that isn't theirs, and that's what you do there, you litterally say it's a fact. But anyway as you said, maybe it's because you spent time with a certain type of people only, but in France in general it is certainly not the norm.
Erm... I think you've read too many french novels from the 18th-19th century... it doesn't work like that anymore.
of course some of the are cheating but it's not acceptable at all, no one will see that "normal".

Sorry, Steve, you are wrong. No self-respecting man with any real self-esteem will look to buy his way with women. The moment you set that type of paradigm in a relationship you are saying that, that individuals time is more valuable than yours, which is the wrong precedent. We are living in 2018 where women are just as independent and successful as men. If the woman that you are interested in is not willing to invest the same type of time and effort as you are in the relationship then it's probably time to move on. You date to find a partner that you can depend on if the person your dating is only a taker in the relationship then your future with them is probably not a good one. No person wants to have the feeling that they are being used (Men or women).
