    Informative video Andy, if I may ask about something related to this topic if I want to count how many Fridays & Saturdays in a specific month since the weekend days in my region are Fridays & Saturdays, is it doable?
    This will help me determine how many working days in that month to be used in other calculations.

      @@vizwiz Had one more question for you....I'm being asked to find the sum of sales for the last 10 days excluding weekends. Ultimately, I simply want to sum the last 10 days of sales. This for some reason is confusing me. Any help here?

    • @vizwiz
      @vizwiz  Рік тому

      @@ryangarland251 that’s probably best to do via a table calc but it’s not very straightforward. Let me see if I can put a quick video together. It’s hard to explain in a response.

      @@vizwiz No worries. Its funny how I can get more complicated calcs to work but the ones you feel are quite simple, give me the most trouble 😂. Thanks Andy!

    • @vizwiz
      @vizwiz  Рік тому

      @@ryangarland251 coming back to this now. Do you essentially mean the last 10 working days? Or today’s date minus 10 days and then exclude the weekends. So in some cases that could be 6 days.

    GREAT video! The text table helped to understand what Tableau is doing with the calculated fields. Just to be sure... The [Order Date] filter showed up because we excluded some dates?

    • @vizwiz

      All you should need to do is change the date in previous date calc I'm using with the date you want.

    Hi Andy! Thank you for the extremely clear walkthrough. I'm trying to solve a very similar issue and this gave me some food for thought, but while this walkthrough gets me part way there it dosen't quite fit my need. I'm trying to create a view where my prior day counts show on the same row as my latest day counts, so that when the view is filtered to just show the latest day I still see the prior day numbers. Is that possible to do?

    • @vizwiz

      Parameters work across an entire workbook. They are not dependent on a data source.

    Hi Andy, I have data where weekends between two activities must be excluded. The two activities are "Sent to Voicemail" and "Voicemail Processed." I need to calculate the day difference between when "Sent To Voicemail" was sent and "Voicemail Processed" was processed, and if there is a weekend between the two, I need to exclude the weekend. I have only the time stamp and the phone number as data for these two activities. Please help!

      If I understand your question, you don't have a date field, you only have time. So if that's the case, it's not possible to compare dates.

  • @CeaintheViz
    @CeaintheViz Рік тому

    I work with weekly data (discrete date that ends on Friday). I’m assuming I can use this same logic to compare latest week to prior week? Also, how would you compare latest 4 weeks (so 4 rows of data) to the prior 4 weeks?

    • @vizwiz
      @vizwiz  Рік тому +1

      For comparing latest to prior, you can follow this tutorial but swap months for weeks. Your second question is 100% possible. You would need to use a couple of datediff calcs to determine which set of weeks each week falls into and then compare those results. Does that make sense?
