You can also use this deodorant method for painting canvas. I would draw my art on tissue paper from shoeboxes and transfer it to the canvas then it's way easier to paint it...
I know this is an older comment, but...Oh, wow, that's helpful. I've used copy paper before, but that relies on redrawing/going over lines to put it down onto the canvas, and one wrong move, sneeze etc and it's messed up. I never thought to try doing it like a stencil. I'm curious if the deodorant type matters and if stencil suff would work the same/better? Also, I can't help but wonder whether it might alter how the paint reacts though...so I guess my question there would be which paints have you used it with? I work mostly with acrylic, but occasionally with watercolours or gouache. And, while not paint, I could see it being useful for when I use coloured pencils. Are you drawing on the tissue paper with ink or pencil? Thanks, this might be a game changer.

I honestly still use speed stick. As long as you let it dry for a few minutes it won't go anywhere. Also dabbing with the napkin and wiping away from the stencil.
My stencil stuff is coming in the mail today and I can't wait because my biggest issue is always losing my stencil!! So glad to know that I made a good purchase! Thank you!!
I've only ever used my own made stencil stuff which is melted speed stick then some aloe vera and some hand sanitizer then shake it up in a twist top bottle....and man it really works...ive heard some horror story about electrum and stencil stuff?what dose everyone prefer on here?is stencil stuff worth it?if u let it dry for 25 30 mins dose it really last?it never wipes away completely?????
This series is really great information. I particularly like this one because, when I was scratching, I always would stress over the stencil. Started using Stencil Stuff, problem solved!
As a new artist I’ve used both, and both work pretty well with Stencil Stuff obviously working a bit better. I also like to prep my fake practice skins and I’ll leave the stencil to dry overnight or for a few days depending so it completely dries and when I finish a practice design I can move on to the next skin and continue to practice. I’ve had up to 5 skins waiting and drying at one time and the more time you give it to dry the better, especially on fake skin. Obviously you won’t be able to do that on an actual client, but if you’re just starting out I think it’s a good way to maximize your practice time. You can spend a few hours drawing out your stencil and applying them to the skin and you’ll have different designs to choose from at any time. 🤘🏼😎🤘🏼
I leave my stencil on the fake skin for an hour or two and then wipe it off with vaseline since thats the only thing i have on hand at the moment.. stencil sticks perfectly visible, i find it too dark actually if i leave it on for much longer
I appreciate you, my man. In NH doing got money, bought nice stuff. Writing start to finish what i need and the steps to doing a tattoo. Running through this play list. Stay bless my guy

Something we never see is,,,,, does it have to be gel or the white deodorant and for stencil (its obvious but still is never stated, which way 2 place the stencil when applying) but other than that I absolutelyove your teaching skills on these videos. You cover areas alot don't .step by step ,covering areas u may come.across an question . Thank you for these videos very helpful If I HAD to state a negative i would say, I couldn't see the canvas well when wiping area. The after effects we can't see well Sonja 2 take your word for it. Even a photo at end would help just give a idea what itll look like for each. Again...thank you for the video lessons. Going now to.watch more.glad I stumbled apon these
Thank you Turtle I really appreciate that! I know what it was like trying to learn on your own so I'm just going back and answering all the questions I had, and it seems a lot of other here are having the same questions I did. As far as the deodorant I do believe it has to be gel sticks. And I couldnt agree with you more about the quality of the footage through out the video. I was still very much learning how to use my camera and what not. I think down the road I will more than likely remake this video with better video quality and detail. Thank you for watching and supporting what we are doing here its much appreciated!! 🤘🤘
Oh ..its gel??? I thought it looked like the white bar that goes on clear ..whatever its called the gel one is blue and sticky . I used the white kind and nonscentes inwas told was best becuz the skin is already cleaned and the perfume in the bar could cause irritation or bumps. Thanks so much for getting back to me ...looking forward to watch all the videos....so can't wait 2 see if u do a remake or update :)
That does make some sense. I have seen people just take the cap off the stick and rub it on someones skin, apply the stencil do the tattoo and repeat for the next client...... 🤪 not good! I would imagine that they made it illegal due to cross contamination. Stencil stuff is much better by far in my opinion and more consistent. Appreciate the support Jeff 🤘
If your client happens to not like the placement of the stencil and wants to move it , what do you do ? If you had to hand trace the Stencil and it wasn't printed can you use that Stencil multiple times ?.
If they don’t like the placement clean the stencil off the skin. If the stencil you used is still in good shape and not really smudgy then yes you can absolutely use the stencil again. Just reapply whatever stencil solution you use and reapply the stencil. The stencil might start to get messy after a couple uses and at that point you will probably have to remake the stencil. Hope this helps and thanks for watching🤘
This is not related to this, but I been doing my tattoo on fake skin, and im just getting like a smudgy line with gaps and the ink is also not going in 100 percent, how can i fix this? I just want to tattoo fine lines and make a detailed tattoo.
WIth out being there I couldnt say what is causing your problem. IDK if you have watched this or not but it may help you out. ua-cam.com/video/8wX_acATCng/v-deo.html
Hey there as always love your tips and tricks...I do have a question about stencil stuff .my friend applied stencil stuff then applied the stencil ..the stencil won't go away , so I'm wondering is it the stencil stuff or could it be the type of stencil she's using thx in advance
Speed stick, stencil stuff, anchored, and many more brands that make products for applying a tattoo stencil. I can really only recommend what I like and that’s stencil stuff. Speed stick works pretty good as well but the application process isn’t the most hygienic so I don’t use it. Thanks for the question and thanks for watching I appreciate it masses!! 🤘🤘
That is how I transferred my fist tattoo ever many many years ago before UA-cam had tattoo videos and it worked for me. Best of luck Alaina and thank you for watching and supporting the channel!! 🤘🤘
Hustle butter is more for of an after care product. It can be used while tattooing but it doesnt work that great when tattooing. Again the hustle butter is more for after the tattoo and even after the tattoo is healed. Thanks for you question snow and thanks for watching!! 🤘🤘
I'm an apprentice at a local shop, my mentor has me apply a small amount of green soap and rub it around and create a lather then once thats done I lay my stencil and give it time to dry
@@mctimmy3674 yes sir that is correct, I prep the skin really good with alcohol to remove any oils then I use a small amount of green soap solution rub it around to where it lathers. Give it a bit to were it becomes tacky/sticky to touch then lay the stencil
@@mctimmy3674and just to clarify it is not solely green soap its diluted with water in my squeeze bottle. That is what I'm experimenting with right now, im doing an experiment between this method and stencil stuff. It works great for my mentor it just getting the science down as far as how to apply the perfect amount without creating the bleed and proper drying time for it to adhere really good and make sure it stays as long as posssible. I also have a bad habit of laying my opposite hand on the stencil and it rubbing it away. My mentor said i either need to work from right to left or start from bottom and work up
Hey bro how do I get the stencil to stick on the skin everytime I pull up to see if there is not I tried wetting and it holding it for 30 seconds still wouldn't stick
Do you need the carbon paper to make a stencil. You can take a piece of paper put it on top of your carbon paper, then draw your design on the paper which is on top of the carbon paper. When you’re done your stencil will be on the backside of a piece of paper. I hope this makes sense and thanks for watching🤘🤘🤘
I've seen people use the classic Bic pen to create a transfer with. Use any other pen like the gels, felt, etc. It doesn't transfer, even the clear Bic pens won't work. Not sure what ingredient they use to separate itself from the crowd but it works.
Hey I’m having trouble when my stencil not going on the skin. Do I need a special pen/marker. And a lot I’m practicing but I’m noticing my needle moves or pokes when I move a certain direction like it can only go one way any tips?
I’ve been trying to get an apprenticeship and no one takes me seriously I’m awesome at drawing and I take tattooing very seriously. I’ve wanted to tattoo since I was a young child and see my pops work at the prisons in Mexico and Baja cali. Seeing all those scary ass men with tats but have beautiful souls made me so fascinated with them. You’ve helped me out so much thank you for everything you’ve done to help people like me.
I've always heard Speed Stick specifically. It has to be the gel kind. I've never tried any other brand though. As long as it's the gel kinda, and not the white powdery kind, another brand might work. Give it a try on yourself
A best practice is to tattoo from bottom and work your way up. Just so you don’t accidentally wipe away or run ink into your stencil.👍🏻🇬🇧👍🏻🇺🇸🇨🇳👍🏻🇭🇰👍🏻🇹🇼👍🏻 🇷🇺 👍🏻🇩🇪 👍🏻🇯🇵 👍🏻
I came here right after my stencil stuff smeared my stencil and I didn’t even put that much on! Lol I’ve used deodorant before, I think I’ll go back to that
I know this is an old video, but I feel like this wasn't really a fair review. Anything is going to wipe off after just a few minutes. Speed Stick is the only thing I use for tattooing on myself, and the stencils STAY! Sometimes, I literally can't get them to wipe off! Even with wiping, the only time I've ever lost a stencil is because I didn't give it long enough to dry. Since I'm tattooing myself, I put the stencil on a good 35-45 minutes ahead of time though. I know that's probably not really feasible if you're in a shop with a client though since time is money. For someone starting out, and practicing, I'd recommend letting it sit as long as possible. I put the stencil on before I even start setting up all of my supplies and equipment. And I actually disagree about the stencil not sticking to the skin with Speed Stick. If you have an adequate amount on the skin, I've always had the stencil actually stick to the skin. I have nothing against Stencil Stuff, but for just starting out, I think it's easier to just run to the store and grab a Speed Stick for cheap 🤷🏻♀️ just my 2 cents lol
Same!!! If you let it dry long enough, that stencil isn't going anywhere! Way easier to just grab a Speed Stick from the store... and way cheaper too!! I actually have more trouble getting the stencil to come off than I do with getting it to stay! Like if you need to reposition it, or if you can see it after the tattoo is done. I had a stencil on my leg once, and then decided I was gonna wait to tattoo it.... that stencil was on my leg for 3 days, even after showering multiple times, and scrubbing it with green soap 🤣
- clean the area
- shave the area
- apply small amount of stencil solution (I use anchored stencil solution)
- remove the stencil and let it air dry for 5 mins or longer if you can
BOOM!! that stencil ain't going nowhere. This method has never let me down.

I have a shop in Texas but Im in Nebraska for the week for a wedding and thought I’d tattoo in a private studio while I’m here, and I forgot my stencil stuff, and Amazon won’t have any products in time and there isn’t any supply stores so I’m trying to figure out how I can still tattoo ny designs without free handing it, I may have to go speed stick for the week.
Thank you for these videos very helpful
If I HAD to state a negative i would say, I couldn't see the canvas well when wiping area.
Again nice video
Dope vid!!👌🏽🔥💯💯 (just curious did the particpant get a free tattoo?!?😜😉 jk...serously ur vids rock..keep up the good work!!
So whats the best one?speed stick or the other one stencil stuff
I am new bie
both work really well. But for me stencil stuff every time. 🤘🤘
It’s illegal in Georgia to use deodorant for stencils. No idea why but themes the rules.
What happened if u can't get speed stick what else would you recommend brother and keep up the great work 🙌
Speed stick, stencil stuff, anchored, and many more brands that make products for applying a tattoo stencil. I can really only recommend what I like and that’s stencil stuff. Speed stick works pretty good as well but the application process isn’t the most hygienic so I don’t use it. Thanks for the question and thanks for watching I appreciate it masses!! 🤘🤘
@@ArtSomething ohh okay man and not a problem keep up the amazing work dude 🙌🙌
I used the green soap mixture to transfer stencil... is that ok?
That is how I transferred my fist tattoo ever many many years ago before UA-cam had tattoo videos and it worked for me. Best of luck Alaina and thank you for watching and supporting the channel!! 🤘🤘
I want to ask you the hustle butter I did not find in my country the A&D Do they have the same job? i want to know
Hustle butter is more for of an after care product. It can be used while tattooing but it doesnt work that great when tattooing. Again the hustle butter is more for after the tattoo and even after the tattoo is healed. Thanks for you question snow and thanks for watching!! 🤘🤘
@@ArtSomething iwant to ask you teatcher what the job of A&D vitamins ointment
really helped me out, thanks!
Glad it helped Adyn!! And thanks for watching Adyn we appreciate the support!! 🤘🤘
I'm an apprentice at a local shop, my mentor has me apply a small amount of green soap and rub it around and create a lather then once thats done I lay my stencil and give it time to dry
I've never heard of this method. You mean somehow you manage to stick a stencil using only green soap?
@@mctimmy3674 yes sir that is correct, I prep the skin really good with alcohol to remove any oils then I use a small amount of green soap solution rub it around to where it lathers. Give it a bit to were it becomes tacky/sticky to touch then lay the stencil
@@arturobarraza5082 how resistant is the green soap stencil to wiping with more green soap solution during the tattoo? If Im making sense.
My mentor said i either need to work from right to left or start from bottom and work up
@@arturobarraza5082 like a printer. Down. To up. Works best. Left to right will run. Blood. Ink. Solution. If you start at the bottom there's no run.
Good stuff!
The other thing that would affect how the stencil applies is skin type and texture of the client
Very true!
@@ArtSomething somebody’s been paying attention huh? Hahaha
Does it matter what side u place the stencil on . Is it the ink side on the clients skin or the inked side facing you ?
You want the ink side facing the client. 👍
Have you ever used Detol to apply stencils??
No I'm sorry Scott I have not used Detol to apply a stencil.
thank youuuu!!! 🙂😊🙏
Does have to be that type of deodorant? I never thought that tattoo artist's would use deodorant.😯🤔
Speed stick is all I have used when it comes to deodorant.
So stencil soap for the win ?
what are you using to make a stencil?? pencil???
Does this work with all wet deodorants or is there something different about speed stick?
Hey bro how do I get the stencil to stick on the skin everytime I pull up to see if there is not I tried wetting and it holding it for 30 seconds still wouldn't stick
Can I use regular paper to make a stencil or does it have to be a certain paper ??
Do you need the carbon paper to make a stencil. You can take a piece of paper put it on top of your carbon paper, then draw your design on the paper which is on top of the carbon paper. When you’re done your stencil will be on the backside of a piece of paper. I hope this makes sense and thanks for watching🤘🤘🤘
I've seen people use the classic Bic pen to create a transfer with. Use any other pen like the gels, felt, etc. It doesn't transfer, even the clear Bic pens won't work. Not sure what ingredient they use to separate itself from the crowd but it works.
How can I get the ink off from a stencil I put on that I decided to change my mind on what I wanted to do. The ink pretty much seems stuck on my skin
Hey I’m having trouble when my stencil not going on the skin. Do I need a special pen/marker. And a lot I’m practicing but I’m noticing my needle moves or pokes when I move a certain direction like it can only go one way any tips?
Dettol dude.....try that its amazing
I’ve been trying to get an apprenticeship and no one takes me seriously I’m awesome at drawing and I take tattooing very seriously. I’ve wanted to tattoo since I was a young child and see my pops work at the prisons in Mexico and Baja cali. Seeing all those scary ass men with tats but have beautiful souls made me so fascinated with them. You’ve helped me out so much thank you for everything you’ve done to help people like me.
What kinda of pen is best for drawing the stencil?
any ball point pen is best
Speed stick all day
Does a stencil work on fruit cuz every time I wipe it smears off
Can I use the deodorant multiple times ?
Thank you!!
You're welcome Alexadros!!🤘🤘
What ink do you use
I use eternal and fantasia for color. I use a few different blacks but mainly dynamic. Thanks Amiee appreciate you watching! 🤘
Google Lol lmao nice one
Thanx bud 👌
How do u trace stencil on stencil paper
thanks bro
No problem my friend!! 🤘🤘
You messed up on the speed stick side that's why the lines were bolder.
Question: does it has to be SPEED STICK or we talking about any possible deodorant??
I've always heard Speed Stick specifically. It has to be the gel kind. I've never tried any other brand though. As long as it's the gel kinda, and not the white powdery kind, another brand might work. Give it a try on yourself
Just in my experience speed stick works well for fake skin and stencil stuff(or things with that consistency) is good for skin.
A best practice is to tattoo from bottom and work your way up. Just so you don’t accidentally wipe away or run ink into your stencil.👍🏻🇬🇧👍🏻🇺🇸🇨🇳👍🏻🇭🇰👍🏻🇹🇼👍🏻 🇷🇺 👍🏻🇩🇪 👍🏻🇯🇵 👍🏻
Almost the same...Nice video
How much is the stencle stuff.
I came here right after my stencil stuff smeared my stencil and I didn’t even put that much on! Lol I’ve used deodorant before, I think I’ll go back to that
Thnk u
Do you have a instagram page?
Yes its @daveinks.88
Bro 🤘🤘🤘👍
Keep on Rocking Brother!!🤘🤘🤘🤘
I'm learning under you.. you just don't know it
No problem Gengar! Thats what I made these videos for so keep at it and dont quit!! 🤘🤘🤘🤘
I swear by speedstick used it for all my self tatts. Funk paying extortionate prices for a tiny ass bottle of stencil fluid
I had a stencil on my leg once, and then decided I was gonna wait to tattoo it.... that stencil was on my leg for 3 days, even after showering multiple times, and scrubbing it with green soap 🤣
it's amazing how much better your videos have gotten in just one year
