Good old Pucka how can we forget. This the truest song ever written. God bless all the boys before, during and after Nam. There were lots of Frankie’s in Nam and some survived only to pass on from the so called rash in the song. In 1961 a number of us joined the CMF including our mate Frankie who was the eldest of us at age 18. Frankie then joined the Regular Army around age 24. He did a tour in Malaysia and 3 tours of Nam as a forward scout. He stood out like brass balls with his red hair and fair complexion. He was wounded a number of times. I hadn’t seen Frankie nor the rest of the boys since 1965. I came back from overseas in 1986 and went to visit his family. His Parents told me, the above and that he dropped dead at the Hospital doors having just been discharged, leaving a young family behind. Frankie was born in Scotland and grew up in Australia a typical immigrant lad like many of us. Frankie is a prime example of the Scottish Soldier, having Joined the CMF Scottish Regiment in Box hill before transferring to the Artillery to be with the rest of us. The rest of his story is as stated above. Frank was a hero who gave his life for Australia, his new COUNTRY. R.I.P Frank.
Psychological warfare was the bread and butter of our enemies. Too many soldiers and marines were taken from us by civilians whom had no place in the fight. They *loved* using women and children as cover & using them as munitions, as sacrificial lambs. You don't know what's in that vehicle & you don't know why it happened, and when it's *YOUR* marines and *YOUR* life on the line, I'm sure you'd rather not take the chance that they're dangerous

When I hear this song, and I see the footage roll, I don't actually see what's on screen. I see bulkheads, the overhead, the SCP, BCP, the DOOW, COW, the Sternplanes, I see men that, over a short period of time learned everything about them, to the point I called them brother. I see them sitting in crew's mess eating their meal either pre-watch or post-watch, laughing, joking, playing cribbage or watching a movie. I see myself doing maintenance with my division, talking about what we're gonna go do when Chief cuts us out for Liberty for the day. I see those memories play in my head like a movie, much like this video, and God damn does it fuck me up. I miss them. A lot. A small part of me told me I should go back in, but, it won't be the same, and that's the second gut punch that sends me over the edge.
I think the reason they put this song in is because war is a place where people die, and so everyone dying in the war is going to have to answer for what he's done, good or bad, when he sits below the throne of judgment. But it's easy to see how a nonreligious person could confuse it some.
It's the song used because this is the cradle of civilization, Jesus walked 40 days not too far from here, and yet, people are still fighting in the same exact place people have been fighting over for millenia.

Back then we trusted our government. The moment I found zero weapons of mass destruction is when I realized monsters ruled the world.
I never fired a shot. Didn’t need to because the Republican Guard literally deserted and months later became the insurgency. I was on the front lines in Baghdad in ‘03 ‘04 & ‘05 and I didn’t shoot once. Mostly because I was a Recon troop and we were fighting ghosts, but also because I understood we were warring in someone’s neighborhood. Tried to win hearts and minds. I wanted zero regrets and I have none.
Tour one, after we invaded, I was smoking cherry flavored hookahs with elders. M4 in one hand and tea in the other. Our early convoys were like parades and smiles. I’ve had half of a dozen Muslim fathers walk up to me on the street at a safe house, with their daughters in their best dresses, formally asking me to marry their daughter and bring her back to the US.
The locals loved us for about a month in Baghdad and then Bush broke up the Ba’ath Party, all hope was lost, and we were caught in the greatest urban conflict in human history. It sucked.
Once you gain some wisdom, you’ll begin to understand nuance, and how you should have kept your mouth shut when you were younger…
@@Chris-fn4dfyou act like the troops fighting are the ones who make the call on if we’re going to invade or not. You’re a coward who has NO idea what you’re talking about! I’m a vet and i have respect for all enemies we’ve ever fought against in US history because of the terror both sides went thru. Stick to your fantasy of thinking you know everything

Idk if it happened or not, but I hope all these guys got to go home and live happy lives. The Iraq War wasn't their idea
At minute 2:55, an unarmed civilian man died. May his soul rest in peace.

I was told “on every objective level” we are better now than we were in the 2000s as a military. Would love to hear your thoughts on us now vs let’s say 2002-2009
Not every level, but our contemporary military would absolutely win against 2003. Better generals, experienced SF, adequate equipment to deal with the insurgency, etc. We definitely don't have the money to nation-build like we did have then.

On every objective level no, we weren’t. Our modern military would win against our military of the 2000s.

Maybe the real WMDs were the friends we made along the way.
Literally Generation Kill Mood, i love it, and i loved how the show translate the visual, very close :)
If you think the Marine Corps is "the man" in this song, you may wish you were never born when The Man comes around.
All a part of the pain of being a man. God bless everyone who stands and fights for the greatest country in the world. God bless America 🇺🇸
