Actually most of the silver screws are of this type. You can in some cases use a flat screwdriver (1.5) to get them out but don't count on finishing the job that way. You'll need a security torx screwdriver of size T9.

Thanks Bro...my fan sounded like a freight train. Although I didnt clean the heat exchanger, I did clean every other aspect and its so quiet now. Kudos
I would have preferred if they had made the Fan and Heat Sink more easily removable. So that one can clean them without going through the whole hassle of a Teardown.
Thanks to this I was able to open and clean my sister’s dirty PS4 pro. The clip that holds the power supply was a little tight since it was the first time opening it but other than that smooth process. Thank you for your detailed explanation. 😉
@360Ragequit Sorry to burst your bubble, but if you want that be prepared for a much larger and more expensive console. You would need a heatsink at least twice as large as the one in this video and less obstructed air inlets and outlets. To run at 4k compared to 1080 each frame takes slightly over 4 times the work. Factor in twice as many frames and you are faced with over 8 times as much work for the processor. I have 2 overclocked gtx 1080's and they still have some trouble with 4k 60hz.
The video content is good for the most part but there is a problem I think everyone should know. You mentioned that when removing the power supply from the console that you need to be careful and not remove the part of the connector that is attached to the motherboard but the wires. I tried pulling the wires using needle nose pliers and in my case the whole thing came off and that destroyed my P/S console. What I found out after this happened was that it was much easier to remove the wire from the power supply itself. Had I known that, that's how I would have removed it because it just came off from the power supply with hardly any effort at all, I didn't have to use needle nose pliers to grab it and wiggle it I just used my fingers and pulled it off. Be careful guys because now I can't do anything with this P/S 4 console but use it as a paper weight. Thanks!
Love the video I just finished cleaning mine It's been really loud playing games tryed cleaning the fan but no luck when I got to the heat sink it was dirty and there was like no thermal paste on the cpu so hopefully that was the problem
Thanks to your videos my ps4 no longer sounds like it's taking off. Heat sink was caked in dust so cleaned that up and replaced the thermal paste and now I can actually play without headphones! If anyone else's sounds like a jet engine then get it done just make sure you buy the right tools. Cost me about £15 for the tools and the thermal paste. Well worth it.
Thanks for uploading this. My PS4 Pro is back to running silently. Ive done the hole saw mod aswell and fitted some mesh behind sprayed white, looks good!
The problem is that the consoles heatsink is large enough to cool it properly, but there isn't enough ventilation. If you take off the top cover it can reduce the fan noise drastically
The detailed teardown is very helpful. Now if you or anyone else to figure out how the hell to make this thing run cool instead of it cooking its own self like the Xbox 360s used to do oh, that would be great. Never let mine get super dirty or anything like that but after less than a year it started overheating. Now I've had it for about 2 years and it's just literally cooking itself to death. It gets so hot it's unbelievable. Eventually it starts having errors that sends into Sony and then shortly after that the screen starts intermittently going black. After first started I cleaned it thoroughly by pulling apart using your video and even tried replacing the thermal paste that work for about a month or so then it started doing it again.
Guys pit Liquid Metal on your PS4 Pro. I just applied it on mine yesterday and used Kapton tape to protect the resistors. Night and day difference. I now play my PS4 Pro for much longer. I could not stand the noise before and would only play for like 10 minutes.
Thanks for another excellent video. I managed to repair a PS4 Pro with an overheating issue. Previous "tech" put thermal paste on everything BUT the CPU, and reused the old paste in addition to the new paste. I'm not sure how, but the CPU was shiny. Whoever did this, please retire. Now.
just cleaned mine today for the first time and was super scared to mess it up but I didnt. it used to make a loud noise from the fan and now it's super quiet
Thank you so much for the video. My PS4 pro was loud on the mw multiplayer menu. First I cleaned the fan but no change in fan speed. I looked through the fan and seen dust and lint caked on the heat sink. Using your video I removed everything and cleaned it all up. I also removed the excess thermal paste and left a thin layer on the apu. I'll eventually change the thermal pads and thermal paste but the difference is night and day! My wife even noticed how quite it is now. Thank you so for an awesome video! You've earned my like and subscription.
So I just tore down my PS4 Pro and took the speaker out that makes the power on beep and it was well worth it, and it was so easy, if your able to do this and not worried about your warranty or don't have a warranty anymore I definitely recommend taking it out if you tear your PS4 Pro down to bare bone
Be a little more specific when you’re talking about unplugging the power supply from the motherboard and maybe show us what you do instead of skipping to it being disconnected cause now mines broken
Thanks for the video, my PS4pro fan has been spinning loudly lately and decided to apply liquid metal to replace the factory thermal paste. After application, the noise has gone down tremendously when playing games like FFVII remake or GoW.
You realize that you would have gotten the exact same real world effect by using a good traditional thermal paste, right? And you'd be able to actually pick up your PS4 without it being scary.
This guide de was excellent. Thanks. My PS4 pro is silent as a whisper now. Although I think most of the problem was that almost 1 quarter of the IHS had no thermal paste on it. Added a fresh batch now though.
its to do with the disc drive reader meaning you might have connected it back incorrectly, too loosely, or damaged it but it could be firmware issue so put your ps4 into safe mode and rebuild database (if you dont have a ps5 by now)
Thanks man I recently bought a PS4 Spiderman edition that unfortunately had cockroaches inside and had to open it to fully clean it, being my first time opening any electronic I was very nervous but you explained so well even I could open it all up clean it and then close it Thank You 😊 🙏

This will also put to bed anyone taking Cerny's "mirror the GPU" too literally and thinking there's two GPUs, it should have been obvious it was a doubling of CUs for anyone who understood GPUs.
Jesus christ, the power supply on the motherboard is welded on its insane, I tried from the psu end also but that's also welded on 🤣 what was a 45 minute job has turned into hours and it still won't come off. I'm getting a beer. Let me know if anyone comes up with a stress free easier method.
BE CAREFUL WITH THE POWER SUPPLY CABLE. I did exactly what this fellow did and mine popped completely off the bottom of the motherboard. Gonna try to solder it back in place 🤞
Having difficulty getting the wire of the power supply off the mother board because there's just nothing to grab, but excellent video to help take apart
2010ngojo an SSD would do a lot because ps4 pro now has sata 3 but I wasn't talking about an SSD but a 7200rpm drive or even a hybrid drive with 4 or 8gb of SSD for the OS and 1tb for storage. You're not familiar with PC's are you?
Robert Presti Actually the SATA 3 isn't helping anything. DigitalFoundry did a comparison of a HDD and an SSD on base PS4 and PS4 Pro and there was hardly any difference. I cant remember why but they explained it.
They don't do that as the price of the console would be higher and it's good this way. Anyone decides after that if they want to put an ssd, they can do it.

So you can't actually clean it without completely dismantling it?
Building a rocket seems easier than reaching the ps4 pro heat sink. Bonkers!
Great hexagon screws. Time to put everything back together and forget about it.
Exactly
@@next14u65 the right size flathead will work
I like how the fan connector is a plug in rather than a soldered connection.
Thank you I just broke my ps4
Me too. Power supply cable did not unplug as expected and ripped pins outa the motherboard :)
@@mackeralthecat I'm stuck on the same part 🤦🏽♂️ almost stuffed mine lol I'm just sitting here hoping it'll turn back on when I finish cleaning it
Guys pit Liquid Metal on your PS4 Pro. I just applied it on mine yesterday and used Kapton tape to protect the resistors. Night and day difference. I now play my PS4 Pro for much longer. I could not stand the noise before and would only play for like 10 minutes.
Great tutorial, helped me a lot. Thanks.
Nice work!
did you clean heatsink?
Harv 83 yes it was so dirty
Do you have to put new thermal paste if you have to clean the heat sink? Or is it not necessary?
@@iamdeadsilence if you've been using it for a long time I would say to put new thermal paste.
Thanks for the detailed video. I managed to clean my PS 4 Pro and replace the thermal paste (perfect amount) and thermal pads with this video.
You didn’t specify how to remove the WiFi antenna
Forreal
Pull off gently.
Ashy & Gerry do they just plug back in?
Thank you so much for the video. My PS4 pro was loud on the mw multiplayer menu. First I cleaned the fan but no change in fan speed. I looked through the fan and seen dust and lint caked on the heat sink. Using your video I removed everything and cleaned it all up. I also removed the excess thermal paste and left a thin layer on the apu. I'll eventually change the thermal pads and thermal paste but the difference is night and day! My wife even noticed how quite it is now. Thank you so for an awesome video! You've earned my like and subscription.
I ripped the plug for my power supply out, any tips on how to fix it? Lol
just buy a new power supply
So I just tore down my PS4 Pro and took the speaker out that makes the power on beep and it was well worth it, and it was so easy, if your able to do this and not worried about your warranty or don't have a warranty anymore I definitely recommend taking it out if you tear your PS4 Pro down to bare bone
I need a tutorial fixing the disc tray im trying to put it back together
Thx for the teardown video was very helpful in taking my ps4 pro apart and cleaning it.
Glad this helped!
Be a little more specific when you’re talking about unplugging the power supply from the motherboard and maybe show us what you do instead of skipping to it being disconnected cause now mines broken
Thats your fault for being a goober
Thanks for the video, my PS4pro fan has been spinning loudly lately and decided to apply liquid metal to replace the factory thermal paste. After application, the noise has gone down tremendously when playing games like FFVII remake or GoW.
Did you clean vents too or just replace paste
@GBI I cleaned everything since it’s open might as well do it.
You realize that you would have gotten the exact same real world effect by using a good traditional thermal paste, right? And you'd be able to actually pick up your PS4 without it being scary.
My pro looks a little different than this? More screws and the clamp is more of an s shape not an X?
Same here
I feel like what he is calling at the beginning a “top plate” is actually the bottom plate...
This guide de was excellent. Thanks. My PS4 pro is silent as a whisper now. Although I think most of the problem was that almost 1 quarter of the IHS had no thermal paste on it. Added a fresh batch now though.
Took my ps4 apart to clean the heat sink
I put it back together to try a game out and now I get error code 30392-7
I need a lil help
its to do with the disc drive reader meaning you might have connected it back incorrectly, too loosely, or damaged it but it could be firmware issue so put your ps4 into safe mode and rebuild database (if you dont have a ps5 by now)
Thanks man I recently bought a PS4 Spiderman edition that unfortunately had cockroaches inside and had to open it to fully clean it, being my first time opening any electronic I was very nervous but you explained so well even I could open it all up clean it and then close it
Thank You 😊 🙏
What's the tool that's being used to take off the screws when you take off the warranty sticker??
I’m stuck on this too did you ever find out
@@jakegray5133 Hi, U can find tools easily on the net. Sometimes they sell them with fan and thermal paste.
Came here from your other video looking up how to fix an over heating PS4 Pro. We ell I have just finished turning my Pro on after dismantling and cleaning the completely blocked heat sink and it is working, all looks amazing so far! So thank you for the videos they were perfect! Obviously I still need to see if it over heats and swithches off but at the risk of jinxing it I highly doubt it will because everything looked so much better after the clean. Again thanks so much was very helpful.
Trick: use a spoon to open the top and bottom cover
Thanks to your great video break down on the ps4 I cleaned the heat sink fan and added new paste. My ps4 pro is whisper quiet no matter what game im playing! The paste I used was MX-4 thermal compound 2019 edition. I applied it in a x pattern. Thanks a bunch im so damn happy this thing is super quiet now
9:26 is where to apply the thermal paste, right?
Do you know where the two larger coarse Philips screw go?
This will also put to bed anyone taking Cerny's "mirror the GPU" too literally and thinking there's two GPUs, it should have been obvious it was a doubling of CUs for anyone who understood GPUs.
must say thanks for the video. it helped me fix a ps4 pro and give it all a good clean up at the same time
Please can you check it and tell me if the console says 100-240 V 50/60 Hz, because im from Argentina and here we use 220v.
All PS4's are dual voltage.
Thanks for this video and the teardown. Fully cleaned a 2nd hand ps4 pro I bought and now whisper quiet ;) SSD upgrade tomorrow.
I kept watching and you recorrected yourself i guess once you notice it was the top 😆
My son shoved something up into my disc drive and I always watch your videos, definitely going to use this as a guide as nerve wrecking as it is lol
“Wiggle the power supply” he says 🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️ I jus ripped my power supply I’m sure
Same did u fix it?
Jesus christ, the power supply on the motherboard is welded on its insane, I tried from the psu end also but that's also welded on 🤣 what was a 45 minute job has turned into hours and it still won't come off. I'm getting a beer. Let me know if anyone comes up with a stress free easier method.
Same man. I'm pissed. Does the ps4 still work?
Thank you for this video!!!! My PS4 has a really loud delta fan in it, and I successfully swapped it for a nidec with the help of this vid
PlayStation just did their own tear down lol
i doubt it was half as detailed as this one.
actually its more detailed because its done by one of their engineers which describes some of the components.
Yeah, this teardown was great, and helps someone who would want to work as a hobbyist, but the official teardown was better for an overview.
Made in japan
Many thanks, couldn't have done this without you.
THAT'S THE BOTTOM, DAHHH. HE KEEPS SAYING TOP WHEN IT'S THE BOTTOM. you can even see the rubber feet. this guy's good though.
I would never do this to my own PS4 Pro but it's cool to see what's inside.
This man really made a video titled detailed disassembly and then did everything except the power supply. smh
Also cut the lart where he removed the attenas
BE CAREFUL WITH THE POWER SUPPLY CABLE. I did exactly what this fellow did and mine popped completely off the bottom of the motherboard. Gonna try to solder it back in place 🤞
Can we personally install 4K blue ray drive in it?
David John if you can find one that can play PS4 games... maybe
There is no known way to run a driver for it.
Having difficulty getting the wire of the power supply off the mother board because there's just nothing to grab, but excellent video to help take apart
Well thats one way to break my fingers😂
Great video, you're an absolute champ. After cleaning my totally clogged heat sink, i can finally turn on my ps4 without feeling totally embarassed!!
Still using 5400rpm Sony come on. minimum 7200rpm. Anything with the name Pro should have an SSD lol
That would double the cost of the console, if you want an SSD buy your own and install it
Robert Presti
You can add an ssd after market. Cost saving measure that I can understand for the general market.
detailed but you dont show which screws to remove....
