You’re such a cool n solid dude Pascal! No joke I watch your videos for you! Your personality lol. I love you man, but As you said in the video, not in a romantic way 😂🤣 I gotta sneaky feeling you’re gonna rocket to stardom or something or however you wanna say that. Either as a game dev or as a teacher. I really feel like you’re probably the most solid channel of this type on all of UA-cam. I use what you say in my music, I’m an elderly 39 so a bit late to get into programming but I have a huge love for music. Keep doing what you do man!! We love it! PS...I just started watching your “residual dev build oct 2020” video and I’m BLOWN AWAY by the audio man!! That sorta eerie synth sound is fantastic! Sets a mood I wasn’t expecting at all just from screenshots I’ve seen
Ha! thanks for the kind words :D Yeah the music in Residual is an option for the player between "alien-spooky ambience" or a great sound-track that screams "you're not on earth anymore!" ;)
Really like your type of character. You have expirience and this i think wil help people who want to make a living of game developing. And you do great games. I play on android. Ashworld i loved the gameplay(not the quest system ;p), space grunts once i got into it a bit... i was addicted. Great roguelike(thx for all the mimics later on you @%#$ ;) at least there is invisibility xD. Spider rooms #*&^# xD ;) You make games how they should be made and your vids are interesting to watch. As you said the best publisher is always yourself. Waiting for residual.. 🙄👍👍
Nice video! This is what I think about publishers: They've got the tools for any project or game you might create but are they on your side in the whole process of development? Yes they are because allot of publishers have done great jobs with helping developers who are in need or even better but some aren't wanting a publisher. I love publishers and I have no problems with them there very nice
Have you ever talked about actual numbers and percentages regarding how much to ask from a publisher and how much they'll take from sales? Or is it all NDA? I have no idea of what a good deal would be. Good video btw!
Numbers and percentages will depend a lot on game, publisher, developer combinations. That's why I kept the video pretty generic. A 50/50 deal can be amazing if both parties also fund at 50/50 levels (so your time+development work is worth the same as the investment the publisher gives you upfront and during marketing, etc).. but it's actually more common that a developer takes a bigger percentage, especially after a publisher recouped it's investment. So a lot of things to think about, and that's why I mention in the video: make sure you feel good and okay with the worst case scenario. If the publisher sells the game, and is terrible at it.. did you still earn enough money from the work you put in yourself? - a good thread on twitter just last week about all this: twitter.com/jwaaaap/status/1341458331630759937
So are you going to tell us in your end of year review, how much the publisher paid you up front for your assets and work already done?? Tell us, tell us, tell us, tell us, tell us, tell us, tell us, tell us.....
Greetings is there anywhere i can have a one on one. I think im ready for a publisher but im having trouble making contact. If you ever have anytime id love to show you some of my work so you can tell me if you think i am ready. Possibly helping me get in touch with a publisher?
@@orangepixelgames im pretty sure residual will fare well. Just the way your publisher jumped at it is already an indication. Sharks like to hunt for big meals. Basically 2d no mans sky terraria is a pretty strong pull with very little competition. Both of those games sold a lot of copies. I really hope having a publisher helps you finish this huge project.
Pascal the music in background for me it's so disturbing and distracting. It just make me very difficult to understand what you are saying.. this is why i watch your videos couple minutes and then i close them. Audio it's not clear, it irritates me. Have a beautiful day
@@philippe6918 it's possible tho. I did notice that some of my videos have louder music when I watch it on TV compared to watching it on PC or Mobile youtube.. but that's just hard to get right, I'm not an audio-professional :D
@@orangepixelgames I'm gonna offer my input, the music in this video was fine, didn't notice anything different, but I did notice on another video that the music was kind of loud, and it took some effort to be able to concentrate on your voice, have a good night
I have little bit of hearing impairment and the background music makes it difficult for me to hear the words. I found this video difficult to hear you. Perhaps different people have different hearing capabilities so it depends on how the frequencies of the particular piece of music overlap with your voice? In general I prefer informative videos to have no music.

That might not go for all publishers tho ;) there are a lot of extreme's and a lot of differences between publishers out there.
@@orangepixelgames Yes agreed there are many different publishers out there.
@GameDev Dave Your correct. Not all publishers are nice.

@@orangepixelgames thanks! The biggest thing was actually that, asking to be paid upfront for the time I invested already!
Great informative video, and boy can't wait for tomorrows video..."scope" the bane of starting game devs lol
haha the last one of the daily vids! and then Thursday the last one of the year :D

ha :D no can't/won't/don't want to go into such details, there's also no point for others to know about that :)
@@orangepixelgames let us be the judge of that!! Haha
UA-cam shorts are good for indie game promotion
Any good examples of game shorts that generated sales? 🤔
Will probably be years before I have a game worthy enough for a publisher, but interesting video nonetheless
You would be suprised. I thought the same and a couple of publishers approached me!
You never know how many games it takes to get to that point!
Agree
"In a not romantic way" Hhahaha
just making things clear :D
what if u already finish that mobile game?
